I was a nervous wreck before my first professional game. Hawks vs Wraiths… My entire high school and collegiate career all came down to this.. Was I going to stink? Were the Hawks Coach + GM going to be pissed they took a shot on a young rookie?
Then it happened… First game, I somehow managed to get 5 pancakes. Not 1… Not 2…. But 5 times I made a Wraiths defensive tackle go nighty night. It was such a rush, I felt like I was on top of the world…. My girlfriend even made me pumpkin pancakes the next morning (my favorite). What a high.
Then game 2 happened… Against the legion. I allowed my first sack as a professional football player. This was heart breaking – It’s hard to describe the level of pain you feel as a guard when you know a block you should’ve made ends up with your team captain on the ground. It could have been worse (our qb takes an injury)… But that was a memorable moment because of how crushing it felt. I was a rookie.. and I was humbled.. No one is perfect. So I hit the training room hard that next week.
Now my final memorable moment is the latest power ranking report…. It turns out I’m currently ranked as the 27th best o-linemen in the league. Hot dang, is that not a great feeling for a rookie! Time to hit the training room.
