While Eidur Gustavsson's career is still young, we can already tell you three memorable moments from his time in college and the NSFL.
The first one dates a year back, when Eidur was playing for the University of Minnesota. A college junior, he was the starting defensive end in a game versus University of Michigan. It was a “do or die” moment for Minnesota as earning a win would secure a spot in national playoffs, but losing would eliminate them from the playoff picture. Eidur gave his all in the game, picking up 4 tackles early in the game, including one for loss of 9 yards as he read a screen play perfectly. His real heroics, however, were in the clutch time. Minnesota was leading 27-24 with 1.5 minutes left. Michigan advanced to Minnesota 20, and were almost assured to at least tie the game. As they were running the ball to get the clock moving, Eidur disengaged from the block and laid a HUGE hit on the running back, forcing a fumble which he himself recovered. Minnesota won thanks to this play, and Eidur was named the game MVP with 7 tackles, 2TFL, 2 sacks and this forced forced fumble.
In the NSFL his best moments, probably, were his first game as a Wraith and his first points scored. While the preseason game against the Liberty was a loss, there's no denying it was a special moment. Eidur’s dream was to be a Wraith, to play alongside Bork. He recorded a tackle for loss, showing that occasionally he can read plays very well.
His first points as a Wraith came in a loss, too. In the first regular season game against the very strong Outlaws team, the Wraiths managed to gain a great field position in the 3rd quarter, and Eidur made a great swim move past a lineman, and hit Bronko when he did not see him at all, the sack resulting in a safety. Safe-to-say, he was happy about the play even though the team took an L. But it was a sign for things to come.
