While episodes that focus on other team’s WAGs can focus on their glamorous lifestyles and petty feuds, wives and - god forbid - girlfriends of the Yellowknife Wraiths has to frame around the hardships of living in the middle of frigid ass nowhere. With a single mall, most of which is usually for lease, and not much social life to speak of sandwiched between days that can be dark for 16 hours at a stretch, the WAGs of Yellowknife focus more on community, planning, and the occasional bear attack, which gives it a small but dedicated viewership, mostly made up of your uncle Craig who thinks that everyone should know how to saw their own table.

Some viewers have complained that the women of Yellowknife seem basically trapped. After a controversial breakup it could take as much as a week for the next supply flight to reach the Northwest Territory’s capital. While this gives players the chance to plead their case, it does seem like a matter of time before a girlfriend will be trapped into coming back to their ex mid-blizzard. Still, the show provides a valuable lesson for the families that might consider heading to Yellowknife, which gets ever more relevant as the season comes to a close.
