Following the stunning success of Basketball Wives, VH1 execs decided to double-down on their success with the new show Football Wives. Although the NSFL has markets that don't lend themselves to great TV *ahem* Yellowknife, the producers found a gem with the families of the Philadelphia Liberty.
Despite the number of camera-hungry players on the Liberty, there was still vocal opposition to filming from at least one Liberty player. Linebacker AC Hackett objected to both the idea of a show about couples, citing the fact that he is "single as shit" and a show exclusively focused on wives and girlfriends, saying "Jesus, it's 2017. People are gay fam." While the former comment appeared to be slightly tongue-in-cheek, albeit with a hint of bitterness, the second reflected a stance shared by star Wraiths wideout Bailey Cook.
Of course, despite rather naked annoyance and behind the scenes protests, one monkey don't stop no show. The first episode aired following the Liberty's beatdown of the Yellowknife Wraiths and followed both players and their significant others at a celebratory dinner. The partners seemed as close as the players, specifically Becky North and Tori Hendrix, who both seemed to particularly relish hearing the newest gossip about fallen wunderkind Logan Noble, recently implicated in a steroid scandal.
