Life after football, for me, means giving back. My community service during my playing days is a huge focus for me, and there’s no reason that should change when I stop playing. Tutoring, mentoring, and basically using my celebrity to champion humanitarian causes are things that will persist even when my body starts to break down.
Ideally, for a job, I would like to be a professor. Maybe I would return to Morgantown, WV, to teach and coach. Maybe it would be some other place that would take me. But a life of academia has always held a certain appeal for me: flexible hours, publications, and the ability to help young people change and shape their experiences for the rest of their lives. College was such a formative time for me; I would love to help be a part of those formative years for other students.
If all goes according to plan, then by the time I’m finished playing I will have enough money in the bank to survive. This would mean not having to work to sustain myself and my family, which would leave me free to pursue other interests. A professorship would be something I do because I want to, not because of the pay. I would also like to invest in organizations that do good work for the world, and maybe even start my own foundations. There are lots of possibilities open for me, and I’ll hopefully be in a place to take advantage of them.
