Joseph Lombardi had a productive offseason. He spent a lot of time at his high school, Eastern Regional High, practicing kicking and punting with the school's varsity team. Just five years before, Lombardi was handling kicker/punter roles at the school, and kicked the game-winning field goal in the New Jersey DIA championship. Normally during his college days, he'd spend his summers practicing kicking at Vanderbilt, his alma mater, but after graduating to the NSFL and spending his rookie season with three teams, he wanted to spend his summers at home practicing, rather than spending his summers many miles away in Yellowknife. Every day he would wake up at 6:00 AM, run three miles, and then drive to the field and kick 200 field goals and make 200 punts that landed at the 1 yard line. Normally, it'd take him almost all day, but to him, it was time well spent.
