This offseason was no different than any other for John Wachter. After completing his final, widely successful season at Maryland, Wachter stayed local and continued to work out in the gym down the street. A few close friends helped, so he was never alone, but he hasn't had access to a state of the art facility yet in his life. Now with Portland, he should have access to better equipment and trainers to take his game to a new level. He also regularly gets extra cardio in, choosing to ride his bike to and from work and the immediate area instead of driving.
Aside from football, Wachter plays in an ultimate frisbee rec league, where he dominates at an almost unfair level. Of course, being bigger, faster, and stronger than everyone else makes that a little easier, and being an actual professional athlete is a plus, but he also has a surprisingly accurate throw of the disc. His team, the Maryland Monsters, won the regional championship last season, which pitted them against teams in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, DC, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York. The constant running of the sport helps with his cardio, and the frequent jumping helps keep his form sound.
