Ricardo Sandoval was never confined to one sport. In fact, he didn't play football until he entered high school. He played a wide variety of sports, including baseball, basketball, golf, wrestling, flag football, and water polo. His true passion was basketball, but he had a terrible jumping ability and the truth of the matter was that he was not entirely all that fast, so the sport of basketball was out of the question. He also played baseball, but he was godawful with a glove. Sure he could hit the ball a mile, but unless you're in the MLB, you have to be an athlete to play baseball, be able to play whatever they need you to play. He was decent at golf but unable to overcome the skill of all the affluent Asians who were absolutely insane at the sport. He almost drowned playing water polo, so enough said there. Flag football was not physical enough for him, so he joined wrestling, where he hit his stride. He was undefeated in 5 years of wrestling in San Diego, eventually becoming ranked 10th nationally in juniors. Then he joined football when he entered high school and, as they say, the rest was history.
