Though contenders are typically built through drafting and developing talent then locking them up long term to shelter them from the scary world of free agency, acquiring UFAs can be a great way of adding a piece or two to add to or supplement a core, push a team over the top, or bring experience and/or personality to a locker room. In this light, the addition of Phillippe Carter has been a success on all counts for the Las Vegas Legion.
Carter's immediate impact was a revival of the Legion discord (along with sign-and-trade acquisition Wyatt Fulton) which was further augmented with subsequent trades and acquisitions. There's a reason Keygan goes on and on and on about discord numbers. Then when the season started Carter continued doing good things for the Legion, recording 25 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 5 pass deflections through 5 games and helping lead them to 2 wins already - a below .500 record may not seem like something to write home about but that's already matched last season's total and has them 1 game out of a playoff spot. The future is as bright as lights on the strip for the Las Vegas Legion and Phillippe Carter is a major reason for that.
