The biggest difference in Joseph Askins short career so far was being drafted by the Yellowknife Wraiths in the season 3 draft. Even though he was not selected until the fourth round, it meant a lot that they would take a chance on him that late. He had been contacted by multiple teams, but the Wraiths were one of the only teams to seem interested before the draft, so he had been hoping that he was going to be selected. Going to Yellowknife was great for Askins career. Immediately, he had a role model in Ricky Maddox to teach him the ropes in being a tight end in the NSFL, and this mentor's experience in the pros really helped Askins develop into the great player he is today. The Wraiths had faith in Askins so much that they converted their star tight end into a defensive end and trusted Askins to replace this role. This faith in Askins made him feel welcome to the team and the league from the very start. If Askins did not have such a supporting team around him, who knows where he would be today, but there is a good chance he would not be considered one of the top tight ends in the league.
