S5 PT #4 – Underrated

When talking about the league’s most underrated player or players to this point in the season, we will have to take a look at the S5 draft. In this year’s draft, defense was the name of the game in the first two rounds as the majority of the players selected were on the defensive end of the ball. With this much emphasis on defense, undoubtedly, there will be underachievers and overachievers. This write-up will touch on the most underrated defensive player in the league, a rookie from the S5 draft.
This look will be at 2nd round pick, and 6th DB taken in the draft, Terrell Brister, of the Las Vegas Legion. There will forever be some controversy regarding this pick as, day leading up to the draft, he was selected as a co-general manager of the Las Vegas Legion. What this does is allow the Legion to reserve their 2nd round pick for any active administrative member of the roster, which just so happen to be ex-Tijuana Luchadore, Terrell Brister. Why is he underrated? Even as the 10th overall pick and second pick of the second round he has out performed the five defensive backs selected in front of him. Arguably, he would have been still been a late 1st round or 2nd round pick even without his recent appointment of the administrative position with the Legion. With his respectable 24 tackles, he leads the league in passes defensed with 15, he is also tied for 4th in the NSFL in interceptions with 3. Brister has proven to be a top defensive back in this league despite his teams lack of depth or support, and should continue to lead this organization by example for years to come.

As the new co-gm of the luchadores, I was looking at ways to maybe increase our talent at the safety level, but with Kims performance so far, im not so sure we should mess with what we have going on with our 50 TPE inactive FS.

Dude, for some reason, Kim has been killing the DSFL for years. Inactive with only 50 tpe, there is no explanation. Anyone coming through the DSFL in the past 3 years has known about his ridiculousness. Can't say he's underrated. He just does his thing. Unexplained, yes. Underrated, no.

I don't know if he is underrated but E. Kennedy for the Yellow Knife Wraiths has emerged as a dual threat. The running back who now seems to have been flipped as a wide receiver has really become a start for the Wraiths. After only seven games Kennedy as burned teams defenses and has established himself as a monster of the line. He has already racked up a crazy 972 receiving yards and 10 touchdown receptions. He has really found chemistry with Akselsen and they are a formidable duo to really push the Wraiths in an elite territory. But Kennedy is not just a receiver, the Wraiths can and have put him in many different positions to gain yardage. He has also seen 25 touches on the ground game and putting up a very good 4.3 yards per carry with 108 rushing yards. He is a swiss army knife player that any team would love to get their hands on. The speed and toughness that he plays with is sure to raise him into a Superstar. I’m not sure if I have been sleeping on him or what but I haven’t heard too much of Kennedy being mentioned but looking at the stats I can't understand why. He is having a great season and I hope people are not like me and not taking note of his success.

The most underrated player this season is one that wasn't even drafted and yet is still leading the DSFL in tackles for loss. Meet Cordell Joshua, a defensive end out of Texas Tech that has quietly become a key player for the Chicago Coyotes. Cordell has come firing out of the gate for the Coyotes in terms of player development despite missing the draft, accumulating 141 TPE through the first 6 weeks of the season and setting himself up to be a strong prospect in the Season Six NSFL draft. Joshua has shown a nose for making plays in the run game for a Chicago defense that has, in a strange turn of events, relied almost solely on interior linemen and linebackers to rush the passer while handing off the run stopping duties to the team’s edge rushers. Even more impressive, Joshua has accumulated that league leading 9 TFL on a mere 20 tackles and a pair of sacks, showcasing that his stats really are all about stonewalling RBs in the backfield. Cordell was also responsible for the sack/safety combination on the first drive of Chicago's game against San Antonio that set the tone for a grinding victory against the league leading Marshals.

Clifford Rove is the NSFL’s most underrated player. Rove did not start well in his first year in the league, tossing 24 interceptions and only getting into the endzone 20 times. However, he still showed flashes of brilliance, such as when he tossed 4 TDs in a win over the Yeti. As a result, Liberty fans had high hopes for Rove. He then promptly removed those hopes, and actually regressed in S4, putting up a 68.7 passer rating good for second to last in the league, in addition to throwing 26 picks with only 16 touchdowns. Both of these numbers were the second worst in the league, only behind Pierno’s 8 TDs and whopping 35 interceptions.
So when you look at Rove’s S5 performance, it’s like night and day. One of the top QBs in yards/attempt, Rove is also second in TDs in the league with 19, halfway through the season. He is on pace for 38 TDs with only 18 picks. Compare that to Bronko (36/16) and Boss (36/18), and you’ll see why Rove is one of the top QBs in the league and directly responsible for the Liberty offense’s truly amazing turnaround in S5.

You want to talk about underrated? I know a bunch and there are thses DSFL players who have been helping the team a lot but they do not get mentioned and proof seeing on where they are ranked for the draft. So of course, from the Portland Pythons Dwayne Aaron. First of all, he is one of the best and future wide reciever. He is 3rd in recieving yards with 420 and next place is not even close. He delievered 3 touchdowns as well and on pace for more than 10. Aaron has also been pretty active and getting as much TPE as he can.

He has been a very valuable player for his team and a big help for Austin Roenick who is having a succesful season because of Dwayne Aaron. Now there are other better players but he is underrated. Legit no one is talking about him on how Portland is going to win games. He is obviously going to be a top 10 pick in the incoming draft and he is going to be a great wide reciever. He is untop in other stats and that is all i got to say about that. Not because he's in my team but because i am right.

Darren Smallwood of the San Jose Sabercats has arguably been the top running back in the NSFL this year. Two years removed from being called the most disappointing player in the league, Smallwood has been a force to reckon with since switching from wide receiver to running back. The Sabercats have a somewhat mediocre offense, but has been able to put up points when it gets to the endzone (and avoid turning the ball from putting it in the air) due to Smallwood’s redzone reliability. Through seven games, Smallwood has scored eight rushing touchdowns, three higher than the second-best scoring back in the league, and is tied for 14th in the league in receiving scores with three, bringing him to 11 scores on the year. Doing a little math, that means he’s scored 66 points, an astounding 38.5 percent of the Sabercats’ total. He’s been extremely efficient, too, with a large workload, currently at third in the league in yards per carry amongst all ball carriers with at least 100 carries. His longest run of the year is just 13 yards, meaning there hasn’t been any outliers pulling his average up—he’s just the definition of consistency. Watch out for the work this guy does as he single handedly leads the San Jose offense.
