The thing that really killed any chance of the Kansas City Coyotes finding any sort of success his season was the inability of the previous management to adapt or change up the playing style to match up against the rest of the teams. The Coyotes some league best talent in the likes of quarterback Borkus Maximus III, tight end Poopyface Tomatonose and defensive end Cordell Joshua who have all shown flashes of brilliance, but the inability of the former GM of the team to make any executive decisions, strategic changes or decisive roster moves scuppered any chance the team might have had at making a success of this season. The teams much improved play under the tenure of new GM Azhek Ahriman has shown that the squad had the ability to play a competitive game and be a contender to make the playoffs but the poor ability of the recently fired GM to deliver any kind of performance out of the team has left the season ruined for all involved. Perhaps next year will bring brighter skies for the Coyotes under their new management, but for now, this season will go down as one of disappointment.

Darren Morris had a tough season. Not only on the field as a rookie in the NSFL, but as an individual. After suffering from an almost-career ending injury sustained before the DSFL championships last season, Morris struggled to return to form. Falling in the draft from a pre-injury consensus first round pick, Morris ended up with Arizona at pick 12. It very nearly almost didn’t pay off for the Outlaws, since according to sources he was absent from the workout room for nearly 7 weeks until he finally started making progress in the latter half of the NSFL season. After that, he’s taken off and full-heartedly embraced his continued development. In the drastic turnaround he’s resurged and become a higher contributing member of the playoff-bound Outlaw defense. Despite being injured for most of the season, Morris did admirably putting up 3 interceptions, a fumble recovery and 9 pass deflections. His biggest moment came stopping Sabercat’s Jackson on the 2-yard line with a game-winning tackle in week 9.

Usually I'm pretty team oriented in articles like this, but for this one, I'm going to write about myself, Cameron Taylor. Cameron Taylor finally did it. He got a freaking interception. He went 4 pre-season DSFL games, 14 regular season DSFL games, 2 playoff DSFL games, and 4 pre-season NSFL games without a pass deflection or an interception. It was reaching a point of futility. Cameron even wrote a huge article outlining how the TPE to INT relationship is totally our of wack. It still is, to be fair. But finally, in his 25th career game, his NSFL debut, Cameron Taylor snagged his first INT. It was glorius. After all this time waiting, to snag an interception and help win the game in his rookie debut was well worth the wait. And to make it even better, Cameron broke up 2 passes to record his first career PD as well. So this was an important moment, because it proved Cameron Taylor can compete in the NSFL.

For the Philadelphia there weren't huge issues for the team. It seemed that the team couldn't piece both the offense and the defense till the very end of the season. But this might have been payback for squeezing in last year. Looking back at the season there were two points in the season that broke the back for the liberty. One was week two against the yellowknife where they lost by 3 points at the end of the game. Same thing would happen in week 9 where they lost by 3 again to the Wraiths and even lost by 4 to Baltimore in week 10. If the Liberty would have won one of those they would have squeezed into the playoffs. This is no knock on both Baltimore and Yellowknife as both the teams deserve to be in the playoffs and compete for the Ultimus. But it does sting just a little to miss the playoffs like this.

Marc had a pretty mediocre season, by his standards. He was unable to rake in more interceptions than last season and he also took a dip in Pass Defenses. Last season he brought in 5 picks, and 22 passes defensed. This season he was only able to snag 4 interceptions and 18 PDs. But almost every corner back took a step backwards so the dip in stats was pretty much universal. But the highlight of Marc's season came in the final week of the season. He brought an interception in, and returned it for a touchdown. The bittersweet part was that his touchdown was for naught since the otters would go on to lose the game against the Liberty. But it was Spector's second career pick six. Hopefully he can keep contributing at a decent pace throughout the playoffs and help his team hoist the Ultimus trophy for the second straight season in a row. Then, that will become the biggest moment of the season for he and his team.

It was a rough year for the Yeti and for Boss Tweed as the Yeti stumbled to a 2-12 record and Tweed had the least efficient season of his career despite being at the highest TPE in his career and having the best offensive line of his career. But with the season in the books now, it's better to look back at the happy moments of the season rather than the dissapointing moments. The most exciting game for me was in Week 12 when the Legion came to Colorado. The Yeti won their first and only home game of the season 22-10 which was the first time the Yeti won a game by double digits since Week 14 of Season 3. Not only was it the best team performance in a long time, it was also Tweed's best individual performance. Tweed rushed for 171 yards on 34 carries, averaging 5 yards per carry, shattering the previous single game rushing yards record by 25 yards and doing it on great efficiency. It was exciting for Tweed to have the best game of his career (and potentially the greatest rushing performance of all time) in the midst of a season with a lot of stuggles. Hopefully that strong Week 12 performance will be something to build off next season both for the Yeti as a team and for Tweed as an individual.

For Charlie Law, this season represented his first tentative steps into leadership. It started with an absolute disaster of an off season and forced the third year player to re-evaluate everything going on in his career. He almost asked to be traded to Vegas when the offer to go was given by the new GM. Law thought on it deeply, actually. A chance to go home. It's not like he'd be abandoning the Outlaws to go to a front runner.

In the end, Law chose to stay and to make things work and didn't even share with anyone that he'd been considering it. That decision prompted him to go the other way, actually. He began working harder at spending time with other players and helping them with their own improvements. He was more involved in position meetings and talking to coaches about plans. He'd been part of the team before, but not he became more. In the end, Charlie Law made a choice that no one would have questioned for a second if he'd gone the other way.

The season making event for the Wraiths was easily when we tried to put Kennedy as the slot receiver, and it worked.

Kennedy has been nothing short of a sensation this season, blowing the receptions record out of the water and really being the ultimate safety valve for QB Mat Akselsen. With his shifty feet and sure hands, Kennedy has been absolutely wrecking the middle of the field.

It really helped us two as he acted as our WR2 to Cook's X receiver value. It was no secret that Yellowknife entered the season with a shaky WR corp and one too many running backs. Moving Kennedy to the Slot really killed two birds with one stone. He also may have helped to shift the meta of the league, as the Otters were quick to move Yates to play some WR after the initial success of Kennedy.

As the Wraiths head into the playoffs with NSFC home-field advantage, they can look to thank the correct decision of moving Kennedy around.

Ryan Sierra – DT – Orange County Otters
Season 5 Weekend PT 5 – Reflection

Reflecting on this rookie season of mine with the defending NSFL champions, Orange County Otters, I find myself in the midst of a record setting defense. While I’m tied for 2nd on the team in sacks with 14, there are three other teammates who also have 14 sacks. Unreal. The Otters are led by Angus Winchester, with a single season record of 17 sacks, outpacing the old record of 14. This Otter's defense has a phenomenal total of 89 sacks as a team. The total is 29 sacks over the second place defense. If I've learned anything from this veteran laden roster, it's been the importance of staying accountable. Doing one's job allows the team to function collectively as a whole while improving individually each day. This team's goal is nothing short of a second consecutive Ultimus Trophy. With the secondary beginning to make some big plays to match the record setting front 7, the offense will now need to perform and execute efficiently as teams are making their final depth chart changes and strategic adjustments in hopes of stripping the title from this world class organization. A tall task for these teams who can’t seem to solve there own protection problems. This Ultimus is one for the Otters to lose.
