If I could change one rule in the NSFL, I would allow the addition of 2-way players. These would be pretty simple. A WR could play CB, a TE could play LB, and a OL could play DL, and vice versa. Two-way players would not gain extra TPE, they would have to be smart and split their TPE well between both of their positions. The GM could communicate with the player about what the most pressing team need was out of the players two positions. I think this would be a nice fun addition to at least the DSFL, and when a player is called up to the NSFL, they have to choose one of their positions to put all their TPE into. It would be like NCAA 14 Road to Glory, where you are allowed to play two positions in high school, but have to choose a singular position for college. Implementing the rule could be somewhat difficult, as it may make players want to recreate or re-archetype to become a two way player. This could hurt the teams they retire from. It may also become too overpowered if a high TPE player is above average at both positions. It could then take spots on NSFL rosters away from younger players who only play one position. It would also be only for max earners, as much like QB, they would simply be ineffective without high TPE gains.

I think the league seems to be a in a pretty good place, and I don't have any drastic improvements that I can think of. That said, I can think of one change that would at least mix things up a little bit. I think we should absolve the conferences. That might sound kind of crazy at first, but I'd like to see the seeding be completely based on record, and ignore which conference teams are in. This would solve some of the issues of a conference having way more talent than another, which might see a team make the playoffs that is not very good at all, or another team that deserves to be in, but misses the playoffs because they are playing in a much better conference. I know some of the rivalries would be lost due to this, but I'm not sure that's a huge deal. There don't seem to be a ton of rivalries that are completely related to the conferences. I think these teams would still have a shot of meeting in the playoffs, even if seeding is not based on conferences. Again, this might not be the best idea to implement, and the conferences are not way out of whack right now in terms of balance, but I think it's something to at least keep in mind if things ever get too lopsided.

If I could relocate a team I would take Yellowknife and move it to another Canadian City. Yellowknife is a very northern city in Canada and I dont think the population is there to fully support the team. I would take them and move them to my hometown of Winnipeg. The CFL team averages around 25,000 fans at a game while a league like the NSFL you could see between 30,000 to 40,000 fans at a game. Secondly the name Wraiths would go away. They'd be called the Winnipeg Blizzard with a Royal Blue and White colour scheme. The team would be named after the April 8th 1997 Blizzard that hit the city and dropped 30 CM of snow within a day. Secondly, I would change how the DSFL works, I would change it to College football teams. New players would spend their freshmen year playing for the College team and then after that the Player can decide when they want to declare for the draft. While they wouldn't be able to collect contracts they would be paid via their Scholarships. Each year your paid your scholarship money and if a player decides to stay in College to finish a Degree and play a full 4 seasons they get a bonus for Graduating. After senior year they are automatically declared for the upcoming NSFL Draft.

I've talked about this topic before. MOVE. YELLOWKNIFE. It is such a wildly unrealistic place to have a team. Like, people have discussed foreign teams in cities like Seoul or London. Frankly, both of those are a lot better. The problem with Yellowknife is that it has neither people nor easy travel. If it has easy travel, then hey, who cares if the league sticks a team in, say, Daytona Beach, Florida. Daytona may be small (about 60,000 people), but it has name recognition and it's not hard for a team to travel to, even from the west coast. I mean come on, it's in Florida. And then there's places like the example of London - yeah, it's wayyyy out of the way. But London has 8 million people. Thus, the profit justifies the inconvenience for the league's other teams. But Yellowknife's hypothetical stadium holds more than the city has people. It's ridiculous. And it's super hard to reach. Because it's in bumfuck-nowhere Northwest Territories. So yeah. Screw that.
Also, I'ma be real with y'all. I've gotten over it. I don't care that the Wraiths are in Yellowknife at this point. Except that, I've preached this issue so long I feel committed to it. So fuck Yellowknife. Move the Wraiths. (209 words)
This is a tough one for me. Honestly I'm only here part time and haven't really found anything I dislike greatly. Obviously the sim needs some work but I think the league is really flourishing with what it has available. I would love to see a bit more respect shown by the simmers at times. I hate tuning in to listen to someone belch over and over.
Truly the one thing that I would like to see change is the addition of a team in Green Bay Wisconsin. The fans in the area are rabid in their support of football despite the obviously less than ideal population. I'm not even sure I could truly say I'm looking for change because I like the current brands here. Maybe it would have to wait for another expansion, though having just added Chicago I doubt another team so close would be viable. I don't even have a brand in mind, I just know that the people of Green Bay deserve a team in any fashion of football. They would vote yes tomorrow to raise funding for a stadium. They would sell out season tickets the day the announcement was official. Actually, no, pretty sure they could sell out on the rumor of a team coming. The city of Green Bay deserves the NSFL. ![]()
Written Option: If you could change one thing about this league, change one rule, relocate a team, adjust the conferences, change how the bank works, fix the sim engine, etc, what would it be and why? How would it improve the league as is, and how easy would it be to implement? This is not a time to bash the current set up, but to hear constructive ideas for improvement. Shout out to Swagsloth for putting the idea in the PT ideas thread long ago and to JK for talking about it in his podcast
- Remove rookie locker forum area. Last used in S10. Clutter. - Remove team locker rooms on the forums. Wraiths last used theirs in S9. Austin doesn't have one. Chicago doesn't have one. If they did it wouldn't be used anyway. Replace with direct links to discord LR's. Clutter. - Combine Graphics & Twitter into subforums under the NSFL media section. Clutter. Fix pinned links. Remove NSFL statistical graded area, combine into graded articles with normal media. Dont seperate statistical stuff with another category, just add tags in the description called [STATISTICS] or [INTERVIEW] for pressers, [MEDIA] for generic media. - Hide NSFL & DSFL Archives. Nobody views them, they take up space. Making them hidden declutters but keeps them viewable if you wanted to show somebody them with perms. We have indices as is. - Move bank area into player progression, no brainer. - Seperate this area by position, the same way that the PROSPECTS area is (http://nsfl.jcink.net/index.php?showforum=34) ALSO. Somebody sign the rocketman, he's a free agent. - Add more tpe stuff for richer people to get. - Embrace automation, work alongside 37th and BW3 to form a gradual push towards a system that automates the bank, updates, whatever. SBA Portal is the golden standard. - Change voting of awards from GM's to hiring a board who votes on awards and the probowl. DO NOT REINSTATE A PUBLIC VOTE FOR AWARDS OR PRO BOWL, DO NOT. - Fine GM's more for failing to do basic GM duties.
Hoo boy am I glad you asked this question because ol’ Dugan has quite a few suggestions of how to improve this league. More importantly the sim engine. First and foremost, Tijuana lost a game this season. Obviously, that shouldn’t have happened so the sim is clearly broken, please fix that issue as soon as possible. Now, more importantly, the penalty system has to be the most infuriating thing to watch. Penalties get assigned at random times to random players. Our quarterback has gotten both a too many men on the field penalty this season as well as an unnecessary roughness penalty. Maybe he was getting too aggressive, I can wrap my head around that, we’re a passionate bunch, but a too many men on the field penalty? He doesn’t even have a damn backup in the depth chart. I’ve seen running backs get holding and chop block penalties when they were the ones carrying the freakin’ ball. Our left tackle this season took a delay of game penalty. That’s not even possible. The only person who takes a delay of game penalty on a standard play is the quarterback. Secondly, how many times do people get tackled on the one-yard line instead of making it all the way into the end zone? It even happens on kick returns. It cannot possibly be that difficult to make a sim engine that has realistic (or even physically possible) penalties, as well as a realistic estimate of how often players get tackled on the one-yard line. Also maybe some kind of degree of consistency would be nice.

If I could change one thing about the league, it would be the location of the Yellowknife Wraiths. Yellowknife is a tiny market, hardly big enough to support a team, that bleeds money every year. Opposing players routinely have to make the long journey up to the literal frozen tundra of Yellowknife every year to slog through disgusting conditions that barely even resemble a football game. Half the time the team bus is pulled by a literal fleet of sled dogs, but the last time it was just Ryan Leaf Jr. shouting copypastas about max strength while hauling the bus behind him to the hotel. By the way, the hotel in Yellowknife resembles a saloon (or brothel) of the old days of the wild west, the curb literally lined with Inuit ladies of the night.
On top of all of this, Yellowknife is actually a pretty good football team with the potential to really kick on and even win a title in the next few seasons. Relocation could be something that desperately improves their situation and gives them that added juice to get over the hump. In summation, Yellowknife should relocate because their city is terrible and opposition deserves better than what they get there. I pity their players as well. ![]() ![]() |
