Jammerson Irving was lucky to be playing professional football so early after his dismissal from his college team, but he knew that his time in the development league, in Tijuana no less, might be the last time to enjoy his youth before the rigors of professional football became his daily reality. It also didn't hurt that the Tijuana media was almost non-existent outside the stadium. Jammerson was a native Jamaican and part-time Rastafarian, and calmed his nerves with a joint, some Bob Marley tunes, and a bacon and egg breakfast prepared for him by his cleaning lady. As he found out the hard way in during week 3, the last thing you need is bad tacos before a game - he dropped 4 passes and barely avoided shitting himself on the sidelines.
Jammerson loved attention, loved social media, and didn't take anything outside of football seriously. It got him into trouble in college, resulting in some serious negative publicity and a strict no-media edict imposed upon him by his father and agent. However, after being drafted earlier than expected, and also thousands of miles away from the his safety net, Jammerson had recently rejoined twitter and made it a point tweet his fans before each game. He didn't have many, not anymore, but that would change.
Proving his doubters wrong was what inspired him on game days, and there was no better way to get his personal bulletin board material than the ever-present twitter troll army. And as long as he didn't post anything inflammatory, what could go wrong?
Ryan Applehort starts his morning with a big bowl of breakfast and another bigger bowl of breakfast. The reason why he does this is because he knows having a big bowl of breakfast is the best way to get a lot of energy before going to practice or before playing a game or whatever he may be going to. So Ryan Applehort pours his cereal into his big bowl in order to get a big bowl of breakfast in order to eat it in many bites. The next thing Ryan Applehort does besides getting a big bowl of breakfast is get in to his big black car. His big black car has the windows tinted because he likes tinted windows because that way no one can see him when he doesn't want people to see him but he just rolls down the tinted windows whenever he wants to see his friends or just drive by neighborhoods because Ryan Applehort is a fan favorite despite his continuously mediocre play. Ryan Applehort then goes to the stadium and prepares for the big game and practice. Ryan Applehort throws the ball around in the field and laughs and talks with his fellow friends on the team.
Axel Hornbacher has a lengthy pre-game ritual. It depends on when the games are played, but since we usually play them at night his day begins with waking up at 6 AM to do some light cardio and get the blood pumping. He likes to have that ‘runner’s high’ to start the day off well. After that, it’s a heavy breakfast of eggs, bacon, and potatoes to really fuel himself up until lunch time. He’ll hang out at home for a few hours before heading to a yoga session and stretch everything out and then grab some lunch on the way to the arena if it’s a home game. After that, Axel likes to get into the stadium 4 hours before the game starts to get on the field and start running a few drills just to get into the game mindset. He’ll run up and down the field and try to swat some balls in one on one drills against the second and third string receivers to get some reps in. After the light drills, he starts to get dressed and eats a light meal before the game to make sure he’s not hungry while playing. That’s pretty much his usual pre-game routine.
Season 14 of the DSFL has put Franklin Armstrong in the national spotlight. Many are enamored with the story of an 11th round draft pick at the QB position taking the league by storm. He’s currently near the top or at the top for stats like completions, passing yards and passing TDs. While he’s been in the spotlight, Armstrong isn’t really made for the cameras. I managed to snag an off camera interview with the young gun, for a casual discussion about life in the DSFL. Armstrong is a man of routines, and we got a chance to talk about his game day routine.
“Well I try to keep it like any other day. I wake up early, shower, grab a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios and keep an eye on the DSFL network. I actually quite like watching the DSFL network every morning, which might be odd but I have fun listening in on the game day narratives and chatter. When it comes to home games, I always make sure to take public transit here in Portland on the way to the stadium. I actually get noticed while sitting in the bus halfway through this great season we’re having, but it was certainly different in the first couple weeks!”.
And there you have it. A simple routine for a seemingly simple guy. The Portland Pythons are in high spirits after an exhilarating win over the undefeated Marshalls. The juggernaut rolls on, with Armstrong leading the way! (247 words).
Quote:Written Option: It’s gameday. Professional athletes are known for their routines. Whether it’s the way you sleep/wake up, your pre-game meal, the way you drive to the stadium, or the music you listen to to get pumped up. Write about your player’s pre-game ritual and how it helps you.
Corvo Havran starts any gameday as anyone else would and that's by waking up. While Havran is an amazing quarterback man he is not an amazing waking up man. He will often stay laying in beds for way to long and have to hurry his ass up to get done and be on time. Every morning is the same, at one point or another he has to literally jump out of bed, run into the shower, run out brush his teeth while making breakfast, take his breakfast into the car and try and eat it while rushing to the stadium.
Besides a glorious morning routine, it is always important Havran can psych himself up with some music for a game. His car is equipment with top notch sound technology creating an amazing listenting experience. What kind of music does Havran listen to to get himself pumped? Well non other than some Norwegian Black Metal. The heavy guitar rifs, drumming and scream get Havran ready for any challange.
The last thing Havran likes to do before the start of the game is take out a little amulet a young fan once made for him, it has become his lucky charm, so he always gives it a good rub and promises to the fan he will give them a showing.
First James Bishop wakes up. All players must do this before their day begins. Although sometimes you look and see it may appear as though some people are just sleeping out there on the field. James puts on his workout clothes and heads down to the dinning room. Then it's time to have a hearty breakfast. James’ mom makes his breakfast everyday. Most game days its 6 bacon, 4 eggs, hash browns, 2 large fluffy pancakes, black coffee, and a doughnut from the local doughnut shop. After that it's time to get in his car and head down to the stadium to use their workout facility. He doesn't do much on game day so he can save it all for the game but stretching, jogging, and some other light activities are on the docket. Hydration is also important. The Colorado facility has a hydration specialist on hand at all times. Sometimes a splash in the mouth, sometimes a splash in the face. Whatever you want. When it's time for the game James has a good luck charm he puts in his sock. It's a purple heart his grandfather received when he was in the military. Bishop has to wrap it up otherwise it tears his skin. No time for infection in the NSFL.
