No matter if you think the Arizona Outlaws played better or worse than their skill level, eight one possession games has to be surprising. They went for 2 wins and 6 losses in these close matches that combined to an amount of opitn diferential i don't feel like calculating right now. I am ???Anywyas. If the Arizona Outlaws had gone for 6 wins and 2 losses instead, they would be 10-4 on the season in stead of 6-8. Which would be a pretty significant improvement. One they deserved. Smh should've been .500 fuck Philly. Anyways. It's nothing personal Philly I still love ya.....mostly. Even more, imagine if Arizona had gone for 6 wins and 2 iwns. They'd be 12-2. Impressive stuff. Not, hear me out. 14 wins and 0 losses. That would put the Outlaws at a 14-0 record (crazy stuff). Now that, that would be sprusingly. But the Arzona Outlaws went 6-8. After a bunch of one possession losses. Sad. SAD! We only have the best losses in Arizona. Quality losses. We'd be top 4 by the College Football Playoff committee. Neat. Thanks College Football Playoff committee, very cool! Oh, some people were very surprised by WR Squanch's excellent performance, and QB Kevin Fitzpatrick's level of play that puts him in Quarterback of the Year contention. Big stuff happening in the desert.

The biggest shock is this season is easily the performance of the Tijuana Luchadores. The Luchadores have shown the past 3 seasons that no matter what mix of players on the roster, they can win ball games. However, this year has been much different, ending up with the first losing record season in the Epictitus and Icy GM duo era. And not just a losing season, but one that borderline made the playoffs. There doesn’t seem to be much logic to this losing season though. The roster is full of actives who are continuously working to get better and the GMs have put in time testing strategies as always. From an insider's perspective, we lost a lot of games where we were clearly the favorites in strategy: two games where we had over 80% wins on 200 trials and on game where we were well in the mid 90’s. Some may say the Luchadores are missing the duo of Matexas and Falconi, where Falconi threw the deep ball and Matexas played run n shoot. But overall, this doesn’t seem to be a huge different statistically. So, yeah, it’s really surprising to see a roster and gm pair of this caliber go down this hard. We will see what the playoffs bring, hopefully a comeback for the 3-peat Ultimini champs.

I think what surprised me the most this season in the NSFL was just how poorly the Yellowknife Wraiths performed. The Wraiths are full of talent on the defensive side of the ball, and had a few pieces on offense as well that should have helped them compete with the other teams in the division. Additionally, the NSFC was surprisingly subpar this season: Baltimore was expected to potentially go undefeated, Colorado decided that defense was now optional, and Philadelphia was in year two of a rebuild - it was fully expected that at the least Yellowknife would be competing for the second playoff position. We saw glimpses in the beginning of the season, with the Wraiths going 3-2 in their first 5 games, surely putting them in good position. Instead, we got a team that seemed to not care about training or playing well, and it showed on the field with a dismal 1-8 finish to the season. After the season, management has stated they would be stepping down and looking for a replacement to bring them back to their former glory - and there are rumors that the team may make a big splash move during the offseason. It does beg the question though - why didn't the front office tear everything down at the trade deadline, and potentially get some draft pieces in exchange? It worked for the Liberty, after all.

I know we’re supposed to write about a surprising outcome of a specific game, but I’m going to write about a surprising outcome for the season as a whole. In S10, the Philadelphia Liberty had, what is easily, the worst season in NSFL history. Granted, a large number in actives spent an extra season in the DSFL for growth while they could’ve been contributing for the Liberty, but that was just an extra layer of tanking the team was so proud to trumpet about. The scheme worked though, and the Liberty saw tremendous growth from S10 to S11. In S10 the Liberty ranked dead last in total defense for both points allowed and yards allowed. In S11, however, they ranked first in the NSFL for both, allowing on 22 points per game and 364 yards. A shocking change, no doubt. The biggest contributor to this, however, has to be the addition of Eli Kamaka and Dre By Jr. That may be short lived, however, as Kamaka will be retiring and Bly is weighing his option as a potential free agent. The massive impact the rookies had on the defense cannot be overlooked, however. The addition of Cobalt, Garnett, and Fenix in the backfield, Becker and Robertson as linebackers, and Saul on the line gives them a solid core to last for a decade. The new leadership of @37thchamber will no doubt make this a team to be reckoned with for many seasons.
