Marshals pin Luchadores
The Marshals kicked off their home opener against Corvo Havran and the reigning Ultimini Champions, the Tijuana Luchadores. First possession the Marshals Defense proved once again why they're considered to be the best defense in the DSFL. First Question Bode snuck past the offensive line and brought Corvo Havran to the turf hard. This seemed to set the tone and get in the head of the 2nd overall pick of the S14 NSFL draft as two plays later he would be picked off by the ball hawking corner Walt Green who would almost take it to the house but be taken down at the one. This would set up the touchdown machine Morgan Marshall to punch in a 1 yard trot to out the Marshals up 7. Later in the 1st quarter, Cooter Bigsby would have some trouble of his own as he would throw an interception as well. This would set up the Luchadores to turn the mistake into points with a Forrest Gump rushing touchdown. That would be the rest of the Luchadores fight for the most part as the next series the Marshals would make an impressive 11 play drive capped off with another Morgan Marshall touchdown this time coming from the air. At the end of the first quarter Corvo Havran would look away from Walt Green hoping to find success only to find the Marshals set up a no fly zone as the Veteran Vander Jones would make him pay with an interception of his own. The second quarter would a kicking show for Spencer Lawes as he would tally up 3 field goals putting the Marshals up 23-7 at halftime. The start of the third quarter would be nothing but Marshals domination as Max Vaz would take the second half kickoff 63 yards before getting taken down. The drive would end in; you guessed it, another Morgan Marshall touchdown. After a couple stalled drives the Luchadores looked to turn the tide forcing a fumble only for Corvo Havran to throw his third interception of the day to Quenton Bode. This would set up Spencer Lawes fourth field goal of the day putting the Marshals up by 26. The Marshals got their revenge from last year as they would win 33-13.

Marshals set up a No Fly Zone in 42-0 domination of the Solar Bears.
The game would start of pretty much how it would end with the Marshals defense getting off the field quickly the first drive. Cooter Bigsby and the Marshals offense would work their balanced attack of power runs and short throws to the running backs and tight ends. After an impressive 14 play drive, Timmy Hoss would bring in a goal line catch using his big 6’6” 250 pound frame to separate himself from the defenders putting the Marshals up 7. The next series for the Solar Bears would be ended quickly by none other than Walt Green reading Andrew Lange’s eyes and stealing one. This would set up Cooter Bigsby to find Hoss in the end zone to put the score to 14-0. Solar Bears would get the ball back but only for Lange to throw another interception this time to Franklin Cooper. With Marshals threatening to punch it in one more time, Robert Kleven would catch one from Bigbsy only to fumble the ball at the 5 yard line. With his back at the end zone Lange would set up to try to make something happen only for Nero Alexander to power his way into the backfield and bring Lange down for a safety putting the Marshals up 16-0. Midway through the second quarter Walt Green would set his eagle eyes in the air and take another one away from Lange. This would be followed up with a couple field goals to put the marshals up 22-0 at halftime. Hoping to get a fresh start in the second half Lange would try to shake the first half struggles away. Unfortunately for Lange, this would not be the case as Franklin Cooper would take one away and set up Timmy Hoss for the hat trick with his third touchdown off the day. The next series Mo Berry would find his way into the backfield to sack Lange and send out the punt crew. With a couple penalties hindering the Marshals next drive they would have to settle for a field goal putting the score 32-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The fourth quarter would be much of the same as the rest of the game with Lange throwing two more interceptions, Lawes making another field goal, and Max Vaz finding the end zone to five the Marshals a big time shut out win of 42-0. If there was a way to give an entire defense player of the game I would.
Notable Week 4 stat lines for the Marshals defense:
Quenton Bode: 12 tackles, 1 sack, 1 pass deflection
Mo Berry: 9 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 pass deflections
Nero Alexander: 5 tackles, 2 for a loss, 1 sack for a safety
Walt Green: 3 tackles and 3 interceptions
Franklin Cooper: 2 tackles and 2 interceptions
Vander Jones: 4 tackles and 1 interception.
That didn’t stop the offense from putting out impressive showing as well as they had Max Vaz and Morgan Marshall both putting up 100 yard rushing games.
The Marshals coach had this to say after their 4-0 start. "San Antonio prides ourselves on playing tough, old-school football. This year we went into the draft looking to build a powerful rushing attack supplemented with quick passes and top notch blocking. On defense we wanted to stifle our opponents by forcing turnovers, pressuring the passer, and rallying to the ball to make the tackle. I feel the rookies we found in the draft have done exactly that so far. As a coach it is my job to help these young men learn and develop their game and help design a system that allows them to play to their strengths and I feel we have been very successful at that through these first four weeks.
However not enough can be said about the players themselves who have risen to the challenges we have tasked them with and they have surpassed all expectations. This young San Antonio squad is currently leading the league in points scored, allowing the fewest points, and has the highest turnover differential by a ton. We still have plenty more challenges for them to face in the coming weeks, including facing off against a strong Portland team. I want them to keep this enthusiasm and energy they are currently playing with, and keep making big impact plays. At the same time we want them to focus on sound fundamental football and the importance of making each and every tackle, defending every pass, fighting for every last inch, and making every catch. Some players still have some room to grow, our Quarterback is protecting the ball well but needs to spend more time on his progressions and find some deeper shots down the field on third down. Our receivers need to minimize the drops and fumbles. Our linemen and linebackers need more inside pressure on the quarterback.
I'm extremely confident about this team and their abilities week-in and week-out. We have goal and one goal only: Win this game. We are not focused on anything beyond that. Win this game."
Look for the Marshals to continue their strong performance into next week against another strong defense in the Portland Pythons.
