All About the QBs
I was very excited to see Showbiz versus Joilet. However, the matchup was completely underwhelming, disappointing, and all-around unenjoyable from a quarterback sense due to Showbiz shitting the bed in a huge 37-17 loss in San Jose during the battle for the ASFC Ultimus spot. This isn't to say Joilet was good. For a man named Christ, his performance wasn't very redeeming. He didn't throw a pick, but, his single touchdown wasn't very impressive considering his very beneficial gameplan. Joilet L. Christ had just 32 pass attempts against 41 rushing attempts. Did no one tell them this was a passing league? Hmm... guess not. Anyways, don't think I won't be talking about our friend James T Showbiz. Is his first name James? I think so. Maybe it's Gary? That feels closer. Gus? Let's stick with James T "T" Showbiz. Two T's. Unluckily for Showbiz, he doesn't have the opportunity to take a second playoff lost. He performed below par, but this is football not golf, and so below par in a playoff match against former NSFL MVP candidate Joilet Christ will simply not be good enough. Joilet versus Gambino should prove to be a better matchup, as Showbiz got no help from his own running game (or gameplan at least) and Gambino will. (213 words)
Next Year
The Arizona Outlaws are now eliminated from Ultimus contention... they were a while ago, in fact, but they currently still are! That's kinda how playoffs work. But next year? I won't actually be on the team next year, but I'm confident in the Outlaws' ability to at least make the playoffs, if not go all the way to win an Ultimus trophy, come next season. Why? A few factors. First of all, the upcoming expansion draft will certainly cause some damage to established teams in loss of players. However, S15 players are immune to the expansion draft and don't require a protection slot, and Arizona is full of young players. They're in a unique position where they can't lose some future core players, and have the protection slots necessary for important current pieces of the roster. The Yeti can protect all their actives... but don't have enough to be good still. Baltimore has a lot of good players... but less S15 youth, and therefore will struggle when their more than 6 protected players are removed by expansion. I may not be returning to Arizona next season - instead playing in the DSFL with my new player, Ashley Owens - but I have confidence in my former team of 11 seasons. <3 Much love, Arizona! San Jose is secretly a dumpster fire and I have confidence they will lose the Ultimus. But run, you haven't even paid attention to games or standings or anything all season! Yeah... that's true. However, 11 seasons as an Outlaw will give you what I like to call, in reminiscence (theft) of the iconic Georgia vs Georgia Tech rivalry, good ole fashioned hate. Early on as a general manager, I would think "my Outlaws team may not be great, but gosh heck they sure are better than San Jose". Because we were! For a little while. But believe me, if there's one thing I know about San Jose, it's that they will choke eventually. And they've now done too well all season to not choke now. I predict an absolute blowout loss of 14-38. Possibly 14-41. Why? Because San Jose is overrated and sucks and I hate that they finally got an Ultimus win. It's not personal at all!! I love a lot of the players on the San Jose roster. I just wish they weren't in that disgusting, choke-inducing green. Kinky bastards. Anyways, I've already mentioned Gambino vs Christ... Joilet doesn't have what it takes to win a quarterback battle on the biggest stage of football. Good luck, San Jose. I only wish good luck because I know you're too bad for any luck to save you. Spotlight on Youth
Youth. It matters. There's a reason you draft the 21 year old speed runningback in Madden who has similar measurables to a 23 year old balanced runningback who has a funny name. The 21 year old won't have his physical attributes brutally murdered by regression quite so soon. Furthermore, he'll have more of an impact early on. One young player making a sudden and surprising shockwave for the Hawks right now, as they approach the Ultimus, is Corey Trevor. They basically didn't use him all season, then BOOM! 17 carries in their playoff victory versus the Philadelphia Liberty. Quite impressive indeed. I don't expect his impact to be this significant in the Ultimus as well, however, it will be interesting to watch what impact he does have. He definitely helped star runningback Marquise Brown's production. A young player to watch in the Ultimus for the San Jose Sabercats is Cameron Olsen. A tight end drafted in Season 15, Olsen caught the Sabercats' only touchdown pass of the ASFC championship game. He also had three other receptions, totaling for 41 yards. And let's not discount his single pancake! Pancakes are important, people. Having a young tight end who's both a receiving threat and a good blocker is invaluable. (207 words)
