When Chris Orosz announced that he was leaving the Wraiths, everyone knew it was going to change the complexion of at least two teams: first, Yellowknife was going to look very different; second, whatever team he went to was getting a top-tier talent at QB. After slow negotiations and a very deliberate process, he decided that San Jose was the place for him, and the Sabercats have looked like a very different team since he’s been there.
After getting off to a relatively quick start at 4-2, the Sabercats are not looking like a team who has failed to make the playoffs every year in the league. They’re starting to look like contenders. Of course, not all of this is up to the acquisition of Orosz. They’ve also retooled their defense and made some key switches to help give Orosz some tools. Nevertheless, no one can argue the impact that having the two-time Best QB in the league has made. Even after Ethan Hunt was coming along and proving himself a talented player, no one can argue that this move was a significant upgrade for a struggling Sabercats offense. They certainly look to be struggling no longer, keeping pace with the Outlaws, who rank only second behind the Otters in points for. Well done, San Jose, and best of luck!
