So, the most fun thing about the NSFL or the DSFL is the weekly homework I get to answer cool questions about the league. This week I’m supposed to answer crazy questions about which player or team is really making a difference (or not making a difference) after making moves in free agency. Well, I’m new here. I don’t know these things. I don’t know which free agent signed where. The guys that went to Baltimore, that team is winning the free agency battle I guess. I mean, they knocked off Arizona and they’re the best team in the league right now. That’s pretty bad ass. The truth is, ever since I was drafted by the Pythons, all I’ve done is train, watch film, and practice. I’m busting my ass now so that in a few seasons someone is going to write about how Carlito Crush was a killer Free Agent signing that lead “Smart Team X” to the Ultimus. No disrespect to the guys that are playing the game and clearing the way for me to have a future, but I’m not paying that much attention to them right now. I watch the games and see who is playing well, but I won’t lie, player movement and money doesn’t interest me right now. Just winning the DSFL Championship and then getting drafted in the Top 3 of the NSFL Draft next season is what I care about. So who’s the best free agent signing? Well, it’ll be whoever signs me in S9. (253)

A lot of people are talking about Josh Garden, and his decision to leave the Yellowknife Wraiths and join the Arizona Outlaws. And…yeah, that is definitely the free agency move that should be talked about. We are talking about arguably the BEST wide receiver in the league, going to a team that is easily the best in the league (no argument needed…for now). It would be understatement to say that this move displeased some (most notably his now-former teammates), but when you have 200 words to shit out, you do what ya gotta do. After all, the Wraiths were a middle of the pack team WITH Garden, and one would think that if he went anywhere, it would be to a team that maybe needed a little help being competitive (and also lacked WRs) like the Yeti or the Legion. For those reasons, it is very easy to say the decision was irresponsible and bad for the league.

However, this was also a league where everyone was expected to take basically a minimum salary, seeing the commissioner set a league record in both total pay and yearly average could have resulted in a bigger change, making players far less shy about asking for more. I think it was worth it.

Across the league, a slew of changes have both hardened and weakened teams. Whether it be by way of aerial attack with Josh Garden, a defensive stalwart duo with lock down corner Phillipe Carter and run stuffer Fulton, or new offensive captain and play caller Chris Orosz, changes have really shaken the league to its core.

Perhaps, though, of all the changes that occurred this off-season, the most profound has been the addition of offensive line recruits. Bolstering the pass defense and rush protection, life has been made many magnitudes more difficult for the reigning champions, the Arizona Outlaws.

With the strongest defensive line in the league, exploiting weak offensive lines was their specialty, their bread and butter. Now they're forced to explore alternative methods of dominance as TPE gained league wide has been quite uneven. Many teams gained 350 x 5 TPE players while the Outlaws only received 350 x 3.

Despite this blow to their crew, they look to 4-peat as Ultimus champions with their improved offense. On the backs of star Josh Garden and more-than-a-game-manager King Bronko, the Outlaws have begun testing up the skies with an Otter-esque offense while maintaining a strong rushing game with Reg Mackworthy. Eight games into the season, the Legion already have more win than they ever had in their history. Sure, it’s only three, but with 6 games remaining, there is a possibility to see them win event more. With a team as young as Las Vegas, it’s already a huge success. And this is thanks to their acquisitions they made during the free agency.
I don’t think there should be any other Free Agency talk other than talking about Wyatt Fulton and Phillipe Carter. Respectively leaving Yellowknife Wraiths and Arizona Outlaws, the two players made a tremendous impact on their new team, the Las Vegas Legion.
Let’s start with Phillipe Carter. The New Orleans Native already demonstrated that he could be a monster on the defense and that the other teams would always have problems against him. Right into the second week of the season, during a match against the team that drafted him 3rd overall in the season one inaugural draft, the Colorado Yeti, Carter broke the team record of Interception Return Yards in a single game, with 80 yards.
Line Backer Wyatt Fulton is also an important member of the Legion going forward. He currently has 72 tackles in eight games which put him second in the league. The Legions don’t have a high Sack counts in general, but with a machine like him, it should come fast.

In the past offseason, there were some drastic team switches by star players. One of which was Chris Orosz, formerly of the Wraiths, jumping ship from the Wraiths to play for the San Jose Sabercats. Why he joined the Sabercats seemed to be a mystery to the general public at the beginning, as the Sabercats had never managed to make the playoffs in their first season. However, it seems that he made the correct decision as the Sabercats are now 6-2 and tied with the Outlaws and Otters for the top of their division. He isn't having his best individual season, however he is a key part of why the Sabercats are at the top of the league. Not to mention, rumors surfaced that part of the reason he went to the Sabercats was to play with Vincent Sharpei, a brother with a different last name. Another player who recently left the Wraiths was Josh Garden as he pulled a Kevin Durant and went to the defending champions the Outlaws. Arizona probably thought even with a 23 million dollar contract it was a good deal however they were wrong. Soon after the signing, Garden announced he would be resigning as a owner of a popular football sim site and wouldn't be working as hard to get better anymore.

There was a single task that the Orange County Otters needed to complete to make their off-season a success. That single task? Sign start quarterback Mike Boss to an extension, hopefully long-term. Boss tested the free-agency waters pretty extensively, waiting just long enough to make Otters management sweat.

After a stressful week of free agency, where seemingly nothing went the Otters' way, Mike Boss relented and signed a 3-year deal with the Otters. The team quickly went back to business as usual, putting up massive numbers in their air-raid style offense.

Mike Boss's talented and powerful arm has led the Orange County Otters to the top of the passing leaderboards in the NSFL, to what has become their usual spot. Through 8 games, the Otters lead the league in passing attempts, passing completions, passing yards, passing completion percentage, passing touchdowns and passer rating.

We expect those numbers to grow astronomically from here, as the Otters try to claw their way back from some tough losses at the hands of the Outlaws and Hawks. The playoff dream is still alive in Orange County, though they're at a two-game deficit to the San Jose Sabercats and Arizona Outlaws for the coveted playoff spots in the ASFC.

It will all depend on Boss's arm to see if they make it.

In a year of big free agency splashes, The San Jose Sabercats made some of the biggest. Perhaps this why they are currently in the running for 1st place in the ASFC. The totally revamped their team and they are looking like one of the most dangerous ones, not only in the ASFC, but the entire NSFL. They added, in my humble opinion, the second-best linebacker in the league. Trading for Jaylon has revitalized a once stale Sabercat defense. They are in the defensive elite club now because of him and I don’t see them slowing down soon. He is their El Capitan and the players want to play for him. The stats don’t show everything that Jaylon Lee does for the San Jose Sabercats’ defense. As if that wasn’t enough, they also added one of the very best quarterbacks in the league. Chris Orosz is one of the most dangerous players in the game today. Adding a dynamic playmaker at quarterback like Chris Orosz is to go along with an absolutely STACKED receiving corps is a scary sight for any defense that has to face them. These two players individually are game changers, but together? Together, they are franchise makers. I wouldn't be surprised if these the San Jose Sabercats would march their way to the Ultimus this season.

One of the best additions this season was the acquisition of corner back Kevin Cushing to the Philadelphia Liberty. This acquisition did many things to help the team. First, it gave them one of the best cornerback duos in the league with Tyler Oles and Kevin Cushing. This combination is competitive with the Hawks (Darnell Turner and Antoine Delacour) and the Sabercats (Benson Bayley and John Canton) for the best cornerback duo in the league. Next, this acquisition helped build chemistry among the team. Krvin Cushing and Tyler Oles know each other from other football adventures; together, they coach a youth football team in the level below the National Simulation Football League and have one of the best teams. Together, they should be able to lead the team to much more success. The best almost acquisition in the league also goes to the Liberty. They thought they had Jaylon Lee and but were actually bamboozled by the Outlaws, who stole Jaylon Lee, traded him to the Sabercats for more cap space then signed Josh Garden. All of these great acquisitions and almost acquisitions have not proved to actually be useful for the team though as they sit near the bottom of the division in the NSFC(besides the Yeti cuz there so bad they aint real).

This offseason free agency was crazy and with many changes going around the league it was no surprise that many players would change teams. The biggest move had to have been Josh Garden and his signing with the Arizona Outlaws. Already deemed a dynasty, many people were surprised by the signing as parity in the league was not present and Garden’s decision to go to Arizona wasn’t going to help matters. Arizona spent an astounding $23 million dollars for his contract and many people were astonished at spending more than a third of the salary cap for a single player, let alone a position that the Outlaws were already deep in with Chess and Evans. So far, the Outlaws still appear dominant and their decision to sign Garden seems to be working out. The team is 1st in the league in Offensive yards and 2nd in the league in offensive points. Garden is also trending towards one of the best wide receivers in many categories: 3rd in receptions, 1st in yards, 2nd in average yards, tied for 1st in longest yards, and has the most touchdowns of any receivers with 10 total. Both Garden and the Outlaws dominance will probably hold fast in season 4.
