The Big House

It was an early December night in which Ryan and younger cousin were frequenting an ill-advised Christmas party. Ryan was home in Reno visiting family and friends when he attended this party. Following a great night of dancing and games and two cocktails, he and his cousin decided it was time to go home. His cousin had driven them both to the party, but was no longer in condition to drive. Ryan, who had many less drinks, was sober, and chose to drive the two of them home. Driving his cousin’s car for the first time, Sierra was unexperienced behind the wheel of this particular vehicle. The weather had also changed for the worse, dumping snow which covered the roads in historical fashion. All of these conditions sound like an excuse leading to the poor choice that was made by Sierra, which would be correct. Sierra was underaged, with a blood alcohol content below the legal limit, but the legal limit was set for those at or above the legal drinking age of 21.
During this ordeal, two facts were lost in this arrest of Sierra. One, Ryan was driving his blackout drunk, younger cousin home from a party, where he was certain to get himself in more trouble. Two, the 18 hours, Sierra spent in jail for DUI, protecting family was the most selfless act he’d ever accomplished in his young life to that point. The grief Sierra received from family was warranted, but not excessive, as they recognized the sacrifice he had put forth for family. They would forever be humbled and grateful for his sacrifice.

Avon Blocksdale going to jail is not all too surprising. He's a rowdy guy and stuff was bound to happen. The most surprising thing about him going to the big house is that he went with all his teammates. Avon Blocksdale, Owen Taylor, Trey Willie, Kurt Hendrix, Ricardo Sandoval, Erasmo Broadway, Turk Turkleton, Dieter Koch, Scrub Kyubee, Antoine Delacour, Darnell Turner and Vincent Valentine all were walking through the streets of Philadelphia when they ran into their arch nemesis enemies on the Philadelphia Liberty. They saw Tyler Oles, Kevin Cushing, Bubba Browning, Lincoln Jefferson, Clifford Rove, Micah Hendrix and the rest of their stars.

When the Liberty and Hawks saw each other in the streets of Philadelphia it turned into a straight out brawl. I mean it was basically the Jets and Sharks out there, only without any singing and dancing. Punches were thrown, kicks were made. And overall all of these players were arrested and put into jail. These players luckily missed no games, but they were all obviously tired from the fighting and the jail.

Many say where there is a big fight like this no one wins and everyone loses. But that was not the case here. Clearly the winners of this battle were division rivals Yellowknife Wraiths. They got to stay clean and out of jail and not get hurt in the fight.

I’ve been an activist since I started becoming aware of social issues in college. I’m sure some would claim that college ‘liberalized’ me, but I’m not entirely sure I care. I prefer to think that college simply educated me, and education is liberalizing. Regardless, I’ve taken part in a number of protests, some of which have turned pretty ugly. As an immigrant (albeit one fortunate enough to have been able to use the legal channels), I identify strongly with the plight of my fellow human beings who are coming to this country. It’s a nation with so much to offer, so it’s easy to see why people would be desperate to get here.

Anyway, in the recent past, there was an executive order to indefinitely ban certain minorities from entering this country. I saw inherent injustice in such a policy, so a couple of friends and I drove up to Pittsburgh (just an hour away from Morgantown, where I was attending WVU) to join the thousands of protesters all across the country. While the contingent was smaller in Pittsburgh then in some of the more major metropolises, there was a decent turnout. The crowd started to get a little rowdy, and the police started spraying pepper spray and arresting people. I can only assume that the factors leading to my arrest were some or all of the following: I’m large, I’m foreign, and I was at the front of the pack. Nevertheless, I’ve now got an arrest on my record, and if I weren’t a citizen, I would be in danger of deportation. This is exactly why I went to the demonstration in the first place.

Well to keep a long story short, he exposed himself.........to the long arm of the law when he was caught stealing gum from the local Tim Horton's.

To make a short story longer for the nature of this PT, Mat Akselsen was shopping at the local Tim Horton's and had brought a sandwich up from the fridge section. He is a bit particular with his sandwiches though and likes to have them heated up in the microwave in the back. He's also kind of a dick so he won't pay for the sandwich until it's been properly heated to his liking.

This happened one time and he waited at the register for his sandwich to be finished. As he was waiting he spotted some delicious gum and grabbed some to pay with his sandwich. Well the sandwich cam out and it was too cold, so they tried again, then it was too soggy, so they waited a bit a crisped it up under the press. Finally after 10 minutes it came out perfect and Mat paid for his sandwich and left the store, except he forgot to pay for the gum, he had left it in his pocket as he was waiting for his sandwich. The Gm was a stickler for accounting and reviewed the video logs when $2.38 was missing from the till.

The mounties showed up to his house and promptly arrested him for theft. The judge also wanted to make an example of the entitled football players in Yellowknife. Akselsen was sent to jail for 15 days. In that time he met a man with the nickname 'cornbread' who ended up being the new Wraiths starting OL, Melvin Mushing.

Growing up in Canada, Cameron Taylor played hockey. Being the violent sport that it is, Cameron grew up with tougher skin and an inclination for fighting and sticking up for yourself and for others.

So on a winter's day, during his time at the University of Michigan, when Cameron was finishing a little free skate late at night, there was a loud commotion outside a change room. A older man was yelling at a young boy. Clearly upset, the young boy was crying and apologizing for "not being good enough, dad." It was tough to watch for Cameron. And something inside of him told him to stand up for the young boy. He went over and told the dad to ease up and chill out a bit. Of course the dad was not happy, but did calm down a bit.

A little over a month later, the same situation arose. This time, the dad was angrier. At one point Cameron saw the dad grab the boy forcefully by the arm and smack him on the head. Well, that just wasn't right. The kid can't stand up for himself, so someone had to. Cameron stepped in and showed the dad how much it hurts to be smacked in the head. Of course this resulted in a brawl and eventually led to the dad being held in a choke hold. Of course others got involved and called the police. Cameron was put in cuffs and taken to the station, but thanks to a couple good witnesses, was released with no charges. The dad on the other hand was not so lucky. Along with a black eye and broken ego, he walked away with some required counselling and volunteer service to complete.

Jayce Tuck’s most notable controversy since becoming a professional athlete in the league can be traced back to his teammate Josh Garden. While prior to Garden’s arrival Jayce had not had any run ins with the law, hanging with a new, less by the book crowd landed him into a bit of trouble.

After one of their wins the team was out celebrating at some local, “gentleman’s clubs,” when Josh Garden offered Jayce and a few of the other guys on the team some of his “glaucoma medication” to help them relax and ease their pain after a tough week of practicing and a physical game. While some of the guys were familiar with the medication, Jayce was reluctant because of the laws surrounding the substance. However, eventually Jayce obliged and found himself having a hell of a night despite the fact that he spent its entirety with a chair pulled up to the buffet at the club.

When it came time to shut the place down, Garden, Jayce, and a few other made their way outside and were met with some over-ambitious local law enforcement. It was pretty clear that they were under the influence and Jayce’s uncontrollable laughter did not ease the tension. When questioned on who’s marijuana it was, Jayce ended up jumping on the grenade to protect Garden and his prior history from getting him into real trouble.

Unfortunately, Jayce did not realize he was admitting to possessing the gram they had left, but another 100 kg Garden had stashed in his car, “in case he had a bad day.”

After a celebratory night at the strip club following a big win some of the team went out and Josh Garden ended up sharing some of his weed with the guys. At the end of the night they ran into some cops and Jayce Tuck said the weed was his, saving Garden from punishment. What Tuck doesn't know is what happened after he got arrested and the rest of the team got off free. Josh Garden ended up stumbling his way back to his house and on the way he ran into a drunk Yellowknife Wraiths fan who started berating him with insults for leaving his team via free agency. Garden tried to ignore the belligerent fan but the guy wouldn't stop, eventually getting in Garden's face and shoving him before taking a swing at Garden for "not being a man and standing up for himself". Garden leaned back and the guy missed his lunch and almost instinctively Garden throw a right hook, knocking the guy to the ground. It was in this moment that suddenly red and blue lights started flashing behind them and both Garden and the drunken fan were both thrown in the back of the cop car and tossed in the drunk tank for the night. It remains to be seen if any more charges will come from the man whom Garden hit but the fact remains that despite Jayce Tuck saving Josh Garden from the police, Josh Garden ended up booked anyways.

Garden just can’t stay clean

Waking up in jail is a terrible thing. Waking up in jail without any recollection of what you did is way worse. If you ever end up in NSFL and coaches and your teammates tell you they are going out to celebrate ohh you better brace yourself. These guys drink professionally! It's like water to them, they will keep handing you cups and if you are smart you will take it and throw the other one away. But unless you are like me...you will keep drinking until the next thing you know you end up in jail. Apparently after all the drinks I went “home” well at least what I thought was my home. Telling my uber driver an address which I don't live on walking up to a stranger's house trying to get in. After realizing my key is not working I decided to start banging on the door and shouting for my girlfriend. When still locked out I decided I will go around the back and cuddle with my dog. Unfortunately at the time I did not remember that I don't have a dog...Police would find me passed out near the dog house and took me to the big House. Luckily I didn't do more than that and I did not hurt or break anything.

Gregory Fletcher wakes up with a killer headache a sore back and a black eye. "Ugh, what happened?" He says out loud as he tries to open his eyes. Once he prys them open he his temporarily blinded by the bright light in the ceiling. Slowly he gets up and looks around him. Gregory finally realizes he's in a holding cell with four other men in it. "Where am I?" He asks out loud to no one in particular. "Las Vegas holding cell." One of the men say to him. "Wa-wait Las Vegas!?" Gregory says surprised. "No no no that can't be right I was in San Antonio last night! How could I be here!?" Just as Gregory tries to piece together how on earth he traveled so far a jailer walks by. "Jailer! Jailer!" Gregory yells as he runs up to the bars. "I need a phone call now!" A few minutes later Gregory gets his phone call and quickly dials his friends number who he knows was with him last night. After several rings his friend finally answers with a tired and achy "Hello?" Obviously he was just woken up. "Tom? Tom I'm in jail in Las Vegas! What the hell happened!?" Tom pauses for a moment then groans. "Damn dude you don't remember? We got blasted after the game and you decided we were all gonna go to Vegas so you charted a flight there. Let's see after that I remember something about a fight with a bouncer? Uhhhhh....." Tom pauses for a moment thinking hard. "Oh yeah! You said you wanted to ride horses so we went to a farm and you broke into a barn..... I think you rode a cow last night man!" Gregory moans and a sudden pain goes through his head "Is that all?" Gregory asks dreading any further answers. "No way man that was before one Am!" Gregory sighs knowing it's gonna cost a lot of money to get out of this one....
