[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Season 11[/div]
Arizona comes off a 4-10 campaign in Season 10 that placed them third in the ASFC, and sixth overall by record in the league. Some experts predict marginal improvement while others predict a big jump. What are you expecting?
Andrew Reese: “I think it’s important for us to pump our breaks this season. That’s not to say we can’t surprise people or that we should let our guard down early, but we do have to be realistic. This team is relying on a lot of rookies right now and it’s going to take time for us to adjust to the schemes that are in place. Ultimately, if we trust in our coaches and the leadership of this team, I think we’re in store for a lot of big things. For now, we just have to take it one game at a time and make sure that we’re continuing to improve week to week regardless of what our record is.”
Bucky Barnes: “That depends on what you consider "marginal" vs "big jump". If you expect us to win one or two more games, that's marginal to me and we're better than that. But if you think we're going to win four or five more games and walk into the playoffs already, that's a big jump, and I don't think we're at that level yet either. I've spoken to Dean (Jackson) and Kevin (Fitzpatrick) about this a lot since I was drafted 2 years ago and they think our window starts not this year but next, and I agree with them. I think we finish .500 this year with our extremely young crop of players and next season, with more experience under the belts of our rookies, we make the playoffs and a solid run at the title.”
Kevin Fitzpatrick: “I think that depends on how you measure it. For example, Arizona finished 6th in the league in S9 and S10, with only 1 extra win, making it easy to say there was little improvement, but also finished over 150 points better in points scored vs points allowed. In S11, I think we will still be the 3rd best team in the NSFC, but I also think we will be at least the 5th best team by record, maybe even 4th best. Speaking of record, we are easily going to be improving there. I think we can go 7-7 this year, which would be a strong message to the rest of the league about our future.”
Slim Shady: “I am just expecting a solid season from the Outlaw’s. We have improved a lot this season, with a great draft class and improvement from our core players that were already here. Our franchise QB has another season on the belt. I think this should be the year that the Outlaw’s start to compete for the playoffs. Maybe I am being too optimistic but I truly believe that we can do it. We have a great hard working team with a great coaching staff who knows the systems and knows how to win games. At the very least we should improve to being a .500 team that can give any team in the league a run for their money.”
Steven Moore: “Realistically I except us to do better this season and all the rookie’s will get their feet wet. Then, next season we will we have a huge jump and maybe even have a run at the championship. We have a lot of good guys on the team and guys that want to win. We have the drive for it, now all we need to do is get experienced and play like we want to win.”
Footballer Sackerman: “I’m definitely expecting the team to improve. We have brought in so much talent through the draft and I feel like the continuous progression of our drafted players can really help us this season. I think our defense really has the potential to win us some games here, and I expect us to at least get to .500. Fitzpatrick is better than ever with another season under his belt, Barnes has progressed as well and with the additions of Reece, Selich, and myself on the defense I think we could soon be a force to be reckoned with. I can see us finishing the season anywhere from 6-10 to 9-7 this season which is pretty nice for a team with so much youth”
Alex Selich: “I expect us to be a 6 win team. Now if that will be enough to get into the playoffs only time will tell but I think we have a decent shot at making the playoffs. Orange County obviously is the favorite but I think in S12 we should be making the playoffs easily.”
Balthazar Crindy: “I think we'll do OK. NOLA is slipping, and our QB is getting better by the day. We're all gettin better every day.”
What are your personal goals for this season?
Andrew Reese: “Sacks, sacks, and more sacks. For real, though, I have a job to do and I want to make sure that I’m making every effort to live up to those expectations. I view that #3 draft spot with a lot of pride. That means that this team had a lot of confidence in me and it’s up to me to show them that they made the right call by drafting me so high. And, if I can instill a little fear in opposing Quarterbacks, that wouldn’t be a bad thing by any measure. I’ve been on the wrong end of a few hungry Defensive Tackles, so stepping into this role is going to be a lot of fun.”
Bucky Barnes: “I just want to keep growing as a player and leader. I won Rookie of the Year two seasons ago, last year I put up similar stats with less time on the field, and this season I just want to grow on that. I want Darren (Morris) and I to be the people the young guys look to to get the defense ready to roll. I'm going to be that guy always hyping up his teammates when they make a big tackle or catch and hopefully it translates into a performance boost for everyone on the team.”
Kevin Fitzpatrick: “I want to break 4k yards for the first time in my career while still gaining over half a yard per play of efficiency. I know that's a tall order, since it means passing in situations where passing isn't ideal, but it is a goal, and with Squanch and Crindy both improved, and the addition of Browning, I think that's a real possibility.”
Slim Shady: “This season I will be staying down for one more season in the DSFL. I completely understand the decision as Mackworthy still has one more season left in his gas tank. He will be given permission to go for every yard as every yard he gets will push him further ahead in the record books for the yard leader. To not risk my development, the have let me play out one more season with the Portland Python’s and let me dominate there. Last season, I went undrafted and took time to find my way on a team after being picked up on waivers. It was a slow start for me, having to learn playbooks on the fly and my fitness and mental state was behind others after missing training camps and the first couple practices. However, once I started to get settled down I believe I was one of the best players in the DSFL. Playing backup to Antonio Summer, we were probably the best 1-2 punch at RB the DSFL has ever seen. Both of us had a 1000 rushing yard season, double digits in touchdowns, and an elite yards per carry that was rarely matched by anyone. Personally my 1000+ rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns was a great accomplishment for me. This year, with a full training camp and fitness, a full season under my belt, and Antonio Summer graduating to the NSFL leaving Portland’s backfield all to myself, I believe that I should be the favourite to win MVP. My carries are going to spike this season and I believe I can keep up my insane 5.6 YPC from last season even with an added volume. Any short of DSFL MVP would be a disappointment to me.”
Steven Moore: “Continue working on my skills and train so that when the team calls on me to play with them, I am ready and have the experience and skill to do what I need to do on the field.”
Footballer Sackerman: “I don’t really have any specific personal goals this season. I know I won’t really be shattering any worlds with Reece and David ahead of me on the depth chart, so my main goal is to just keep getting stronger and improve my stamina so I can really hit the ground running when I am ready to become a bonafide starter on the D Line. I’m already as fast as I’m going to get, go I’ll definitely be hitting the gym and doing some long runs to improve my strength and endurance. Obviously it would be nice to get some sacks here and there but overall I’m not expecting too much, this year is about growth.”
Alex Selich: “I always have high goals for myself because this keeps me highly motivated to actually reach these. I'd love to be a nominee for the defensive rookie of the year award. Other than that be a top 3 defense overall in the league. Maybe even reach the playoffs but that one is especailly hard and it wouldn't really be a disappointment if we can reach that goal.”
Balthazar Crindy: “Gave up the first two sacks of my career last season. This season, my 4th season, no more sacks.”
What team are you most excited to play against this season?
Andrew Reese: “I’m a competitor, so I have to say the Baltimore Hawks. They’re the defending champs and you only get better by going up against the best. That’s going to be a tough series of match-ups, but if we can earn their respect, we can earn the respect of every team in the league. That and, honestly, old man Blocksdale is looking kind of slow these days, so I’m kind of looking forward to watch him try to hobble away once our d-line gets next to him.”
Bucky Barnes: “Can I say choose two? Because if I can it would have to be New Orleans and Orange County. Those two squads have had a stranglehold on the ASFC playoff spots since I got here and I want them to know we won't be the easy win they've come to expect us to be the past few years. If we want to get to the Ultimus in the coming seasons we're going to have to go through NOLA and OCO first and foremost since they're the teams already at the top.”
Kevin Fitzpatrick: “In a very greedy way, Colorado. I think their pass defense might actually be the worst in league history, and who wouldn't want to take advantage of that? I would say Baltimore is the one I am the most anxious to play. They have the best overall defense, but their pass defense is worse than their run defense. This is the team that I really need to step up against if I am going to prove myself as someone who can actually be the focus of a legitimately threatening offense.”
Slim Shady: “I am still in the DSFL so the team I want to face the most is the one that defeated us in the championships, the fucking Tijuana Luchadores.. I am not going to lie, that loss fucking hurt. I was so hyped for the finals and I thought we were going to win for sure. To lose like that after a full season of working so hard and coming so close hurt so much. This is probably my last chance to win a DSFL championship. Even though most people don’t care about the DSFL that much as it is just a developmental league, I care about it and want to win. First though, I want revenge on the Tijuana Luchadores. Beating them in our first regular season meeting will be so sweet I can already taste it.”
Steven Moore: “All the teams really, I just want to go out there and make a name for myself on this team. We have a lot of fantastic players and I want to join that list of amazing players. If I can do that, I think I’d consider that a good season.”
Footballer Sackerman: “I’m definitely the most excited to play against the Yellowknife Wraiths. The Wraiths were one of my top draft destinations and I know the had substantial interest in me as well. I know a lot of guys over there and I consider many of them friends so playing against them in such high stakes will be a lot of fun. I want to really show them what they are going to be missing out on in that game and I will do everything I can to sack Pennington.”
Alex Selich: “Hmmm Orange County I would say. Because there are main opponent this season as it's either us or them for the last playoff spot in our conference. I hope we will be able to win all our games against them. Their offense also got significantly better this season so I can't wait to face them and actually see who will be the victor of that battle.”
Balthazar Crindy: “I'm always excited to play the fightin' Haruki Ishigawa's from Colorado.”
The Outlaws added their first big-name free agent in a couple seasons in the form of DT Mark David, traded for veteran wide receiver Budda Browning, and added a massive draft class of six players, three of which are immediately joining the active roster. What’s it like welcoming new guys to the lockerroom?
Andrew Reese: “As a new guy, I can only speak from my own perspective, but it’s been a great experience. The biggest surprise has been Dean Jackson, who’s an awesome guy. I guess I overlooked him because he’s a kicker, but he’s actually a really good dude. Who knew kickers could be that cool?”
Bucky Barnes: “Adding new talent to the team is always an exciting time. It creates new competition between teammates who may be fighting for playing time. Make some new friends to hang and workout with in the offseason. Also means we're improving if free agents are looking to come here.”
Kevin Fitzpatrick: “The biggest one for me was Budda Browning @Rindiee, since I am counting on him to make me suck less, so I immediately reached out to ask him to improve a certain attribute. I also spent a bit of time talking to some of our new receivers, Kindle and Moore, since they will have significant roles in the offense in S12, and I want them to be ready. Also, even though he was on the other side of the ball, I was delighted to see that I would no longer have to worry about Mark David sacking me when I played against Philly.”
Slim Shady: “These guys have been so great in the locker room. Having these new experienced NSFL players have helped me so much and motivated me to work harder. Seeing these walking legends and having them a part of my team counting on me when I touch the ball is a great feeling and I now want to work hard as to not let them down.”
Steven Moore: “I’m new to this locker room too, and it’s been a blast meeting all my new teammates. We have a good group of guys and everyone is meshing well already. We all hang out and just shoot the shit sometimes and it’s a place where you really want to be. All the vets are there and giving advice to us rookies and making us feel at home. It’s really awesome.”
Footballer Sackerman: “Being a new guy myself, I haven’t been doing much welcoming. Everyone has been so great at making myself and everyone else feel at home in Arizona. I was a little nervous going into my new team but everyone was extremely warm and welcoming and I feel right at home in the desert. This is definitely a good place for me and I’m loving my time here so far.”
Alex Selich: “Seeing how I was one of the new guys on this team. I think they welcomed everybody fairly well. Of course Fitz our QB took his time to greet everybody and share a few words with them. All players are always ready to help us new guys out if we have any questions.”
Balthazar Crindy: “As long as they are gettin better every day, they can stay.”
What’s your favorite type of pizza?
Andrew Reese: “Pineapple and Ham. Except I substitute the ham for more pineapple. Because it upsets people. And I like upsetting people. Especially Quarterbacks that don’t like seeing pineapple on pizza. You got a problem with that? I didn’t think so.”
Bucky Barnes: “Just give me either a plain or pepperoni slice, I don't care which, from back home in New York. I've been all over North America playing in college, the DSFL, and now the NSFL and I'm still yet to find a pizza place that rivals the one's back home.”
Kevin Fitzpatrick: “Spinach and chicken alfredo with diced tomato and onion?”
Slim Shady: “Hawaiian pizza, it’s blessed.”
Steven Moore: “Sicilian Slice with meatball.”
Footballer Sackerman: “Meatball for sure, you just can’t beat it.”
Alex Selich: “Pineapple wrapped with bacon is by far the best don't even at me.”
Balthazar Crindy: “Chicken and bacon. Served cold.”
