The San Antonio Marshals started the season off on a hot streak picking up two road game wins. The season opener started off in Palm Beach against the Solar Bears. The Marshals started of the game taking the ball down the field on their opening drive. On a 3rd and 14 from the Palm Beach 15, Cooter Bigsby threw a nice dump pass to the rookie running back Morgan Marshal who took it 15 yards for the Marshals first touchdown of the year. The next series the stout Marshal defense didn't seem to miss a beat from last year as Nero Alexander got to the Rookie Lange the very first play, which would lead to a 3 and out. The punt following the 3 and out would be a not so great one as it only traveled 33 yards setting up good field position for the Marshals. Morgan Marshall would then go on to prove why San Antonio took him with their first round pick as he would find the end zone again this time via the ground. The Marshals would end up missing the extra point. That didn't get the Marshals defense down as Walt Green would make a big time interception on the first play of the drive which would be followed by a field goal which would put San Antonio up 16-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. Palm Beach would lean on it's run game with the rookie Ludicolo Bigby down the field followed with a 1 2 punch with a 5 yard pass to Been Bortboy cutting the lead to 9. The momentum wouldn't stop there as the next Solar Bear possession would end up with Ben Bortboy would find pay dirt for the second time mirroring Morgan Marshall with a 7 yard rushing touchdown. The Marshall offense would still be sluggish in the second quarter but the defense took the reins in taking the game in their own hands. Mo Berry would stuff the run in the backfield and then David Le Kre would pick off the rookie Lange for a 33 yard pick six. The next series the Marshals secondary would not quit their air assault with Walt Green getting his second interception of the game. Marshals would again capitalize on the turnover with another field goal putting the Marshals up 26-14 at halftime. The third quarter would not be a change of story for the Rookie Lange who again would struggle by throwing his fourth interception this time to linebacker Lawalin Tae'orr. A defensive battle in the third would result in only 3 points going to the Solar Bears. The Solar Bears would once again battle back with Ben Bortboy's third touchdown coming off a 22 yard pass from Lange. The Marshals would answer right back with a field goal to put them up by 5. The defense would then play a bend but don't break style of defense to hold the Solar Bears from reaching the end zone to pick up their first win for the Marshals. Mo Berry would lead the team in tackles with 11 and 2 coming in the backfield. The 5 turnovers by the Marshal defense and turning them into points was the key to victory in week one.
The hunting trip wouldn't stop in Palm Beach as the Marshal turn their sights on the Kansas City Coyotes. The Marshals defense would continue their strong play from week one by terrorizing the dual quarterback attack of the Kansas City Coyotes of Rose Jenkins and Ryan Leaf Jr. In the first quarter, each quarterback Jenkins and Leaf Jr. would meet the turf courtesy of Quenton Bode and. Joseph Henry. The next series the Marshals would set up their first touchdown of the game after a 32 yard completion to Mister Big Chest and a 2 yard touchdown run by Morgan Marshall. Late into the first quarter the defense of the Coyotes would answer back with Buddha Lebowski bringing Cooter Bigsby down in the back of end zone for a saftey. The Coyotes however wouldn't be able to capitalize on getting the ball back after the free kick. Mo Berry would get in on the sack party of his own at the end of the 1st quarter forcing the coyotes to punt. The first drive of the second quarter would be a good one as San Antonio would use a balanced attack of run and pass capped off with another goaline rushing score by Morgan Marshall. Walt Green would continue his hot start of the season creating turnovers, this time knocking the ball loose and recovering a fumble at the hands of Terry Taffy. Unfortunately the Marshals would be unable to create momentum from the turnover and go 3 and out. The Coyotes would end up with Paul Dimirio III hitting a 27 yard field goal before halftime setting the score 14-5. In the third quarter the defenses would take center stage with Franklin Cooper and Buddha Lebowski tallying up sacks for their respective sides. The Coyotes would again cut into the Marshals lead with another field goal at the end of the third quarter. The Marshals would answer back in the 4th quarter as they would hit a field goal of their own to out the score at 17 to 8 and the Marshals D would put the game away with attacking the ball and a sack by Nero Alexander to put the team at total of 5 sacks on the day and their second road win on the season to an impressive 2-0 start. Mo Berry was interviewed after game 2, "I think as a whole the team and more importantly myself can get better each and every week. Email is flying to the ball causing disruption whether it be sacks or tackles for loss it helps set up long plays for the opposing offense is giving us a better chance of getting off the field and letting our offense do their thing. My goal is to continue this effort each and every week til we get the end goal and bring a championship back to San Antonio." Some would say Mo Berry and the Marshals defense is doing more than ok as Mo Berry is top 3 in tackles with 19 and Walt Green is tied for 1st in interception with 2. The San Antonio defense as a whole is also dominating as they are either 1st or tied for 1st in 6 of the 8 team stats categories.
The Marshals look to seek revenge on the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year, the reigning Ultimini Champions the Tijuana Luchadores, in San Antonio's home opener. Expect this game to be very physical.
