As we start the second half of the NSFL Season, the MVP race is becoming more clear. We have our standout, but one or two bad games can undo all that progress. We still have seven games to go to decide who'll be this year's MVP and anything can happen in that time.
1.
Hawks QB Childish Gambino (Prev.: 1st) (@Renrut)
Man, Childish Gambino is a lock for the MVP, right? Well, he's got a good lead on the field, but again, anything can happen over the last seven weeks. He did well in his last two games. Not MVP-level, but well. Against the winless Outlaws, Gambino went 20/39 for 232 yards, two TDs, and a very uncharacteristic two interceptions (only his second and third of the season). His rushing game did help supplement those numbers, adding more than 100 rushing yards and another score. Meanwhile, against Philadelphia, Gambino had nearly identical completion percentage and passing yards, but with only one touchdown, no interceptions, and negative rushing yards. He's holding the course, but his lead on the field didn't improve much.
2.
Sabercats QB Joliet L. Christ (Prev.: 2nd) (@`AndrewWarren13`)
Joliet Christ is honestly kind of lucky that a lot of the people on that were on this list last time struggled this week, because he BOMBED in Week 6 against Philadelphia, and not in the good way. 172 yards on less than 50% completion, no touchdowns, two INTs and very little production on the run. I'm only giving him a pass for two reasons. One: the Sabercats still won, handing the Liberty their first loss of the season. And two: he rebounded nicely in Week 7 vs. Yellowknife; 22/37, 277 yards, one touchdown, no picks, and 118 yards on the ground. That'll keep you in contention, and with a few more games like that, he'll be neck and neck with Gambino once again.
3.
Yeti QB Micycle McCormick (Prev.: 4th) (@infinitempg)
Ok, I was wrong, you can just Stafford your way into the MVP race, by piling up numbers even if the wins aren't there. How can I say no to three 400 yard passing games only seven games into the season? He's flirting with a 5000 yard passing season (in just 14 games, unlike those chumps who play the real game), which would shatter the record for most passing yards by a Yeti, which McCormick holds. His Week 6 game against Yellowknife saw him go 34/60 for 425 yards, two scores, and a pick. Yes, that's a lot of attempts, and he is leading the league in attempts, but not by much, only three per game over his closest competitor. He's definitely a volume passer, but he's doing a lot with that volume to justify it.
4.
Wraiths LB Alex Selich (Prev.: NR) (@Tomen)
I try really hard to always make sure there's at least one defender in these lists, but that's hard sometimes because defensive stats are inconsistent. Someone could have a three sack day, and those will be the only sacks they have all year. However, Alex Selich is making a very strong case for himself. He notched two sacks in both of his last two games, he's leading the majors in sacks, is ninth in tackles, and has notched five deflections as well. I'd love to see a consistent defensive presence in these lists, and Selich is the best bet to keep that presence out there.
5.
Hawks RB Marquise Brown (Prev.: NR) (@YoungTB)
Despite the drama involving Marquise's fake retirement, he's delivering on the field. He racked up over 150 total yards in both Week 6 and 7, and scored twice against the Outlaws. He's worked his way up to second in the league in rushing yards with a very solid 4.5 yards per carry, five rushing touchdowns, and is leading all running backs in receiving yards. Despite the drop in production of his teammate Vinny Valentine (the 5-95-1 streak is no more), Brown and Gambino still have this Hawks offense humming.
6.
Second Line FB/WR Tyler Swift (Prev.: NR) (@`BayleyIsland`)
Tyler Swift is listed at fullback and that gave me serious pause when considering if I should include him, but New Orleans seems to be making use of him at receiver to very strong results. Swift is currently leading the majors in receiving yards on not that many receptions. He's averaging nearly 25 yards per reception, and has racked up nearly 300 receiving yards over the last two games. Swift is doing a great job of shaking the fullback stigma, and is possibly the best offensive player on a New Orleans team that's trying to make a late run for the playoffs.
