[Ready to be graded]
When you see the Pythons' current win-loss record, you probably think something along the lines of, "They obviously know what they're doing, but it's nothing we haven't seen before." Although the Pythons have had great teams in the past, there is definitely something particularly special about this current team that they have put together. Without specifically looking into it, you may not have noticed that several players on the Pythons roster are actually on the verge of breaking team records set by past players.
One of the biggest names on this list is QB Franklin Armstrong. If you did not already know, the current record for passing TD's in a single season for the entire DSFL, not only the Pythons, is 19 total touchdowns. After weeks 11 & 12, QB Armstrong is currently sitting at 19 touchdowns... With two games left in the regular season, that's insane, especially when you consider some of the great players who have played and set their own records in the DSFL. Nothing is guaranteed at this point, but with two games left in the season, odds are that Armstrong will end this season with the DSFL record for most passing TD's in a season. It's well deserved for a QB who wasn't even originally expected to start, yet he came out and surprised everyone.
Another big name player who could easily end this season by setting a team record is LB Leighton Lee. Already being considered a candidate for DPOTY, he has shown each and every week exactly why he deserves such an honor. What you might not have realized though is that Lee is only 23 tackles away from setting the Pythons team record for most tackles in a single season. The current record is 150. Lee's consistent high level of play has been one of the key factors in the success of the Pythons' defense this season. With two games left to get 23 tackles, he just has to continue exactly how he has been so far, and he shouldn't have a problem setting a new record.
Even though Armstrong has been a huge factor for the Pythons' this season, he's not the only setting records on the offense. WR Bona'beri Jones has also used this season to show everyone just how dominate of a player he can be when given a talented QB throwing to him. As of now, Jones has 48 receptions, 871 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns. He's averaging 18.1 yards per reception, and 1/4 of his receptions have been for TD's! He's making the most of every opportunity he gets. The next closest receiving TD total is 5. What makes this statistic even more insane is that the Pythons' team record for receiving TD's in one season is 8. There's still two games left, and he already broke the record and is looking to set a new one that will won't be touched for a very long time.
Although Leighton Lee is probably the most well known player in the Pythons' LB group, he isn't the only one setting records. Lanzer Grievous has used his first season in the DSFL to prove how versatile of a player he can be on a defense. His stats may not immediately stand out to most people, but when you look closely, you can see how involved he has been getting in several aspects of the defense: 81 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 Sack, 4 PD. Although these stats are impressive in their own right, they aren't the record Lanzer is after this season. Lanzer currently leads the league in forced fumbles with 3, several players right behind him with 2. This may not seem that impressive, but the current Pythons' record for forced fumbles in a season is 3, so if Lanzer manages to force one more fumble within the next two weeks, he will break the current record.
If this doesn't prove to you that there is something special about this Pythons roster, then I don't think anything will. There may be more players on the Pythons that are close to breaking records that I just didn't notice, and I'm sorry if I missed you guys! Also, I'm positive there's players all throughout the league setting records for their team, and keep up the good work! Have fun and keep earning that TPE!
