DSFL - GMs and Scouting

It's draft day for the DSFL and 2 of the 4 teams haven't contacted me with any message about their interest in selecting me. 1 team waited until yesterday, but they had legit reasons why and 1 team (POR) expressed keeping me on their team as soon as the season ended and kept me in the locker room.

A DSFL GM should be engaging with prospects as early as possible and they are basically rookie mentors. You are not doing your part as a GM if you do not send a message to prospects.

I've reached out to a few of my fellow DSFL rookies and some of them only received one message from a DSFL GM as of today. You can guess as to which team that was...

So I'm going to hold out for a trade, go without signing a DSFL contract until next season, or skip the DSFL and go straight to the NSFL if I don't go to POR in the first round today. I really hope the NSFL GMs aren't like this because it reflects poorly on the league as a whole. It also looks like the DSFL hasn't learned from past mistakes... Andre Bly Jr.

As a call to action, I ask Head Office review the expectations and responsibilities of GMs and ensure that the responsibilities of the role are met.

Hey there.  First off, sorry for the delay.  My co-GM (Roly) disappeared the day of the championship, so I am a bit behind.

First off, congratulations on your championship.  You definitely made an impact in your short time last year, and even more so since.  If you want to repeat as champion, this is the place to be.  The Marshals have 3 picks in the first 2 rounds, plus picks in the 3rd and 4th, more than any other team, and that's despite already having been one of the best. 

How do you feel about San Antonio as a draft destination?  Despite not winning the championship last year, we had the best point differential BOTH seasons, and have made the championship both years.  We are, in fact, the ONLY team to NOT have a losing record in either season.

How long would you want to play in the DSFL?

I'm loving your build so far.  You definitely seem to understand a Nose Tackle's job.  Last year, the Marshals ran a 4-3, but I may be losing some of those pieces.  Would you be willing to play as a 4-3 DT if that seemed the best fit?

Very cool of you for reaching out. No other team has talked to me other than the Pythons (obv) so I wasn't sure what to think. PDXBaller had so many great things to say about you and San Antonio so I wouldn't rule the idea out. Basically, he said San Antonio is the only other team worth playing for in the DSFL besides Portland (LOL). I really do like the locker room and the guys in Portland a lot. I'm not a big media/graphics guy so I'd need a lot of money from the get go to help with weekly training and I'm probably only playing 1 season in the DSFL based on some of the interactions I've had with a few GMs in the NSFL. I've chatted with a few who have shown interest already.

I know PDXBaller had me in a 3-4 and that seemed to work well, but I can play whatever defense. I want to stay DT long term since he helped me with the build and said it doesn't take that much to max out the stats. I'm leaning about 95% towards going to Portland again. Hit me up if you have any other questions.

For what it's worth, I'm not expecting to get you. Tijuana, who is slowly improving after a horrible first season, runs a 3-4, and their NT just got drafted last night (no clue if he gets called up). They draft #2 (before SA and POR), and I wouldn't be upset about going there.

I definitely agree you will be a one year player, and that's fine. I try to mix up long term sleepers and one year studs to maintain balance. You are currently #1 on my board, so I can't imagine you falling to #3. I found out after PMing you that my 2 DEs from last year (who like the weight to play 3-4) are staying down, so I will be going 4-3, but you will be next to solid performers.

Aside from just noticing I said "like the weight" instead of "lack the weight," I feel I made considerable effort to reach out, tell you about my team, and talk about your role in it. I agree that some GMs aren't doing their jobs (and they are getting blasted for it), but I also think it is damaging to declare mass holdouts and include teams that ARE making an effort.

We went 0-4 in the preseason, 0-5 to start the year, then 7-0 to clinch a playoff spot... then finished 0-2. a crazy season

Not to be an ass but maybe only 2 out of 4 teams want to draft you? I'm not saying anyone else is or is not doing their jobs but it seems unfair to judge all of them based off of your own anecdote. Again if other GM's are doing nothing then that absolutely needs to be fixed
