Don't Be a Dick Rule:

-If you think someone is being a dick, tell them "Don't be a dick, dude." (dude is optional)
-If someone calls you out for being a dick, stop being a dick. If you don't think you're being a dick, tell them you're not being a dick. If more people then tell you to stop being a dick, check your shit, because you're probably being a dick. Shut up, apologize, and move on. (Apology is optional, but skipping it only reduces you from Dick status to Prick status).
-If you tell someone to stop being a dick, and they continue to be a dick, try ignoring them. If they will not stop being a dick and it's too hard to ignore them, PM a HO member. Try not to resort to being a dick back to them, this usually results in a downward dick spiral, and those aren't fun for anybody.
-If you find you cannot interact with certain people without being a dick, don't interact with those people.
-If you feel someone is in full perma-dick status, try and build consensus of your peers (bonus points if they are on different teams) about how you do not like said dick member. Politely bring issue of perma-dickness to HO with consensus from peers to be resolved in a manner that is hopefully both timely and fair.

But then Hawk will blame you for calling someone a dick. I mean that's even worse than being a dick, it's name calling right?

If everyone followed this rule, this site would be barren.

Should the head office start punishing people for saying Er rigs the sim? Absolutely not. Context matters. It's kind of a fun joke that we can throw unwarranted blame at Er instead of just admitting that the sim does weird stuff. Obviously Er isn't rigging the sim and it's a fun running joke.
Archon giving the hawks shit for "cheating" was how he wanted to stir up drama. Your team could have easily rolled with the punches like Er does, or maybe tried to PM the head office saying "hey i'm getting really tired of this guy putting our team down and diminishing the accomplishments my team made".

Instead you reported his posts with like short reasons like "Obvious troll".

I think you need to understand that calling a specific person a douche, or an ass or "a fucking clown" and other stuff like that reflects poorly on you.

There is a huge difference saying something likeĀ  "The Otters are going to dumpster the wraiths" vs: "You are an idiot". One spurs rivalry between teams and adds drama and story to the games and match ups. The other is a personal attack where the goal is just to tear the other person down.

The only change that I think the HO could have done better is explain why your reports weren't valid.

So, I didn't want to comment on this thread because I'm a new player and don't know of much of the previous drama that has occurred. But this post irritated me a bit.

"Archon stated multiple times that he gets his enjoyment by stirring up drama."

So if somebody says "I get my enjoyment from being a dick to others!" they can then be a dick? This seems like an either poorly worded or poorly thought out statement. Just because that's how somebody gets their enjoyment doesn't make it okay.

"Your team could have easily rolled with the punches like Er does"

So because one person handles these jokes well, everybody should right? Now I'm not saying that no trash talk should be allowed and we should all be bff's, because frankly I don't get offended by words on the internet, but if a group of players are getting upset and quitting due to one player being a d-bag, maybe the HO should step in. For a league that wants players to have fun, telling a bunch of people, "Handle it like ER" seems counter productive. Also, if ER came out one day and said "all of the rigging jokes actually bother me and they are making me want to quit" would you tell him to handle it like old ER. No, you wouldn't.

"The only change that I think the HO could have done better is explain why your reports weren't valid"

This just seems douchey. Especially after several people quit over the Archon situation. Apparently, if people quit, their reports may have been valid, no?

Again, I don't mean for this to be a personal attack. Just my opinions on the words you used. Maybe I misunderstood or just don't get the whole situation, just my two cents.

seriously tho HO just add this to the rulebook it gives you wide enough ability to handle this problem

Personal Attacks/Forum Related Discipline
-Personal attacks, excessive trolling and trolling in a malicious way, baiting and spamming, racist or homophobic remarks and any other types of comments that are meant to slander members of a certain religious or ethnic group will not be tolerated.
-The punishment will be a mixture of game suspensions, fines and posting restrictions, judged based on the level of severity of the offense.
-Repeat offenses will be punished more harshly. Accomplices to any punishable offense, including ganging up on a specific member, can face up to as harsh of a punishment as the original offender.
-Please keep in mind that while the rules are more lenient in the Thunderdome, you can still get suspended for behaving too extremely in this sub-forum as well.

Not offended by this. I don't think think everyone should handle jokes the same way.

However, I don't believe I was HO at the time that this happened. If I was, I don't think HO was aware that archon's actions was getting other players to quit.

How would the HO know that players are going to quit when Iamslm reports archon for "obvious trolling"?

Archon was also a very polarizing player. Some people loved him, and some people hated him. He liked stirring up drama but it wasn't always at someones expense. Often he would make fun of himself, like using an insane sig that loco made for him, or outting his player as gay in the most insane way possible. We talked about him on the Sabercats and half of us wanted to draft him and the other half preferred not having him as a teamate.

Anyways, we don't really need to continue talking about Archon.
Saying "Well Archon could say whatever he wanted so I can too!" This doesn't fly because guess what, leadership changes, opinions change. Also, I still don't think Archon crossed a line, however if he did, this wasn't telegraphed well enough to fix the situation.

This is why we had the bullying/harassment announcement. We are trying to prevent these things from happening in the future.

I can't change the past, I can only help make a better future. This is why I was trying to explain to Iamslm to tone it down from how he was attacking a specific user which happened very recently and to explain what is ok and what is not ok.

Not to beat a dead horse, but to add in another perspective, the majority of Archon's personal attacks occurred in the Discord. I got a chance to talk with him, and he felt that the discord was a true anything goes, because it isn't truly moderated. Whereas he made sure to try to stay out of explicit trouble on the forums so he wouldn't be banned from the forums.

Not saying this excuses him at all, just thought I'd give a different perspective on it.

I don't think a new person should ever feel like their comments shouldn't be heard.

I think a big thing is being able to read people. If I tell you that you're an idiot and I can tell you don't care, I'm going to keep calling you an idiot. If I can see it's driving you up the wall I'm going to stop.

I assure you, he didn't keep his personal attacks on discord.

I had honestly just started completely ignoring him, so I'm not an authority on his harassment at all, just know what he had told me.
