Add a Requirement to the Retirement Rule - PDXBaller - 05-09-2018

User is allowed to re-create and play in the DSFL. Retired player won't be gaining TPE and it gets them away from the team.

It sucks, but it keeps people active and not held hostage by the team they hate.

This is the simplest and fair solution.

However, the retired player would continue to exist as if the person had gone inactive, until their required season is complete. The player would then be retired. The person would have no control over the retired player during that season if they wish to recreate.

Sorry, I missed that part until I saw your response to beaver. I think he and I were on the same page, but his post wasn't made until after I started writing my post.

Allowing the person to recreate immediately, but allowing teams to retain the player a full season seems solid. There are some ethical sides to it, but it allows the team that traded to get some usage and it allows the user controlling the player to move on.

I think that everyone who retires should donate to the supersquare trust fund where it will be used very very responsibly

My original intent was to create a little protection for teams on the receiving end of a player who immediately retires, not to create a way to make it ok to trade away retiring players. Obviously if a GM makes a habit of abusing this rule, I would hope that others would refuse to trade with them.

All players who retire should have those players join the Wraiths and they will not be penalized by regression.

Think of it this way:

We are the Wraiths (Spooky Ghosts)
Ghosts are the undead
Retiring is you killing your career
That career is then reborn as a Wraith
Only magic or deities can affect ghosts

i also agree with this, can we add that yeti get the first 8 picks in the draft each year?

Dan Miller should just retire. That'd show em.

When trading any player or getting any player, it's the risk you take. I definitely think the protection rule is intriguing, but I think it's part of the risk and reward. There is no compensation from trading a player and then the player becomes good. There is no reward to the first team that had the player. While I think this is a good idea, I think that's the risk you run in any trade.

Yeah, I may be getting my sim league retirement rules mixed up here but Cushing will be retiring this offseason, right? While under the proposed rule if he was traded 1 day before his announcement he would be retiring in 2 offseasons so that he ends up playing a full season for his new team, right?

If so then anyone planning on retiring that's not on a contender could return assets for their team and farm an extra season's worth of stats by getting traded right before the announcement compared to if they just retired normally.
