Wide Receiver Errol Maddox will be entering the DSFL for the final 4 games of Season 10 along with the playoffs. It was recently announced that he was picked up on waivers by the Portland Pythons, who he will play with for the rest of the season. The Pythons currently sit at 6-4 with a two game lead in the NFC and are one game back from the best record in the league. They have a very talented roster this year and look poised for a potential Ultimini run and Maddox hopes to contribute to that.
Maddox comes into the DSFL after playing his college career at the University of Maryland. He came into college as a highly rated prospect thanks to his natural athleticism and was able to start right away as a true freshman. In his freshman year, he showed some signs of explosiveness but never really found a rhythm as a string of injuries led to a quarterback carousel and he had to adjust to catching passes from a few different quarterbacks. He still put together a decent season with 612 receiving yards and 5 receiving touchdowns that year. In his second year of college, he exploded onto the scene as a stable quarterback situation allowed him to find his groove and thrive. He led the Big 10 in receiving yards with 1313 receiving yards along with 12 receiving touchdowns. Maddox also took on a returner role that season and recorded 546 kick return yards along with 1 kick return touchdown. Many scouts had their eye on him after this impressive sophomore season and he looked to improve even further in his junior season. Unfortunately, he never got the chance as he tore his ACL during offseason activities and ended up missing the entire college season. However, this is when a new opportunity arose. He discovered that DSFL scouts were still very interested in him and with a few games remaining in the DSFL season, he had the option to join a team on waivers and finish out the rest of the season before entering the next draft. After suffering the big injury, he decided to forgo his final year of college and enter the DSFL early for the safety of a guaranteed contract.
Now Maddox will get a to play a few DSFL games to get back into game shape and show scouts that he hasn't lost a step from the injury before entering the DSFL draft after the season. Portland looks like a good landing spot for Maddox to do this. He will be catching passes from one of the best quarterbacks in the league as Joliet L. Christ currently leads the DSFL in passer rating and has a league best 10/5 TD/INT ratio. Playing with a top quarterback will give Maddox a great chance to make some plays and stand out as a Wide Receiver prospect. Playing in Portland will also give Maddox a more relaxed role as they already have four other receivers in the roster in Felix Hasselhoff, Taylor Peterson, Sunnycursed, and Josh Parker. Maddox will get to play a contributing role, but he won't have to be the top guy right away as he will be surrounded with other good receiving threats as he eases in to the DSFL level of competition.
The Pythons will finish the regular season playing three of their final four games at home as they host the Kansas City Coyotes in Week 11 and the Palm Beach Solar Bears in Week 12 before traveling to Kansas City to face the Coyotes in Week 13 and returning home to close the regular season against the Norfolk Seawolves. The race for the top team in the DSFL this season is still wide open, so the Pythons hope they will be able to pull ahead in these final weeks and enter the playoffs as the number one overall seed. Even though he's the newest member of the team, Errol Maddox hopes he will be able to make an impact for Pythons in these final weeks and play a role in helping them make a run at the Ultimini.
