Owls Get Their First Win![/div]
[div align=\\\"center\\\"]The Owls got their first win last night beating the Central Grizzlies 17 to 9. This was a hard fought battle on both sides of the ball, but the Owls defense played their hearts out to counter the issues they were having on the offensive side. I'll start this recap talking about the Owls offense and their strengths and weaknesses, and then I'll do the same with the defense.
The Owls offense just couldn't get the ball moving the way they wanted to and I think the only player who doesn't deserve any of the blame is Ludicolo Bigby. This man was a powerhouse pushing himself through a struggling offensive line. He gained 109 yards in the game on 24 carries netting him a solid 4.5 YPC. He's been a good constant for the Owls as far as efficiency and I see him going fairly early in the draft to an RB needy team. The passing attack once again struggled to make big plays with the QB Ryan Leaf Jr. not breaking 100 yards and only having one receiver gain over 10 yards. It seems to be a mix of a case of the stone-hands, rushed and inaccurate passes, and an offensive line that has had issues protecting their QB. Leaf did score the lone offensive touchdown running the ball in for 7 yards late in the game. Maybe he will be able to use that mobility in the future to counter the defensive pressure. Almost everyone is struggling here but there's still plenty of time to bounce back and show the league that the Owls offense knows how to fly.
It was a defensive slugfest last night as both teams were all over the field making play after play. The Owls defense was led by LB Tony Gabagool with an astonishing 15 tackles and defending 2 passes. He played out of mind, but he wasn't alone in showing why they're named the Legion of Hoot. CB Andrew Solomon had the Grizzly QB Gimmy Jarappolo's number. With 7 tackles, 2 pass defenses, and most importantly 2 interceptions with one taken to the house, his playmaking ability has sent him to soaring up the draft boards. The fun doesn't stop there though for the Owls defense! They got a whopping 6 sacks in the game with SS Richard D'Attoria V and DT E. Kamaka Jr. netting 2 each and LB Mo Berry, DT Bruce Wayyner, and SS Jack Rambo getting 1 a piece.
Tonight the Owls will be face to face against the Atlantic Blackbirds who have also shown that they have a very strong defensive side. It will definitely be an interesting one to watch!
