[Ready to be Graded] [Double Draft Media Week]
Throughout the first 4 weeks of the DSFL Prospect Bowl, all eyes have been on the Southwest Foxes as they dominated their division, and many people have been looking at the offenses of each of the teams to explain the struggles and success each of the teams have been having. Although, the saying "Defense wins championships" is a thing for a reason, and one specific has proven that in these few weeks. The East Cobras. The Cobras defense has gone rather unnoticed and has been playing at an amazing level while going under the radar. In just 4 games, the Cobras D has already gotten eight interceptions! This by itself is a jawdropping stat, but that's not even the craziest part. Four of those interceptions have been returned for touchdowns! Not only that, but they managed to get three of those four pick sixes against the unstoppable Southwest Foxes themselves, leading to the Foxes first loss of the Prospect Bowl and sending the Cobras to first in their division. The Cobras are a perfect example of why every team needs a solid defense if they even want to get close to winning a championship. Every DSFL GM that is looking to improve their defense should definitely be looking at the Cobras for possible draft prospects. The East Cobras future is currently unclear due to how close their division race is, but one thing is for sure, there defense will play their hearts out in order to secure them a playoff spot.
East Cobras Defensive Stats:
Games - 4
Tackles - 193
Tackles for a loss - 7
Forced Fumbles/Fumbles Recovered - 1/0
Sacks - 16 8
Passes Defended - 20
Safeties - 0
Touchdowns - 4
These stats alone may not be enough to show just how lights out the Cobras defense has been playing, but anybody that has watched them play knows just how good their defense really is. Without such exceptional play from every player on the defensive line, secondary, and linebacker core, the Cobras could easily be looking up from at what could have been from the bottom of their division. To put these stats into perspective for anybody who is not familiar with this team, the Cobras defense has scored 24 points from interceptions returned for touchdowns (not including extra points scored off of these). The Central Grizzlies have only scored 56 points total throughout the first four weeks. The Cobras D has scored nearly half of the total points of an entire divisional rival. They also lead the league in interceptions, have the second most sacks at 16, have the third most total tackles, and they are tied for the third most tackles for a loss. If this team's offense can work out its flaws, this team could easily be the favorite to win the Prospect Bowl.
