This is the story of currently Undrafted/Waiver wire NSFL player Chad Maulolo, and his last college game at the University of Montana.
It all started with white light. Chad ran out of the tunnel at University of Montana. As he ran by the flames blasting up into the sky his eyes began to adjust. This was the championship game! The Griz entered as the #2 seed, playing #1 seed Northern Utah.
Quarter 1 – Utah received the kickoff and they muff it. Luckily Utah recovered the ball and began pushing down the field. Slowly and methodically, 1st down after 1st down. Utah scored with a quick slant route from the 4. Utah leads 7-0. After 1 posession the 1st quarter ended.
Quarter 2 – Utah kicks a booming kick to the Griz endzone. Hingle McCringleberry takes it anyway and runs to the Griz 28 yard line. The Griz begin their drive, moving the ball down the field to midfield. While driving the ball Chesty McChesterson (qb) hands the ball off to Hingle McCringleberry (rb). Flea flicker! Chesty goes deep.. deep ….. It’s intercepted. Pick Six!!! 99 yard interception returned for touchdown. Utah 14-0
The Griz receive the kickoff and take it to the Griz 18. The Griz begin the series by running it up the middle. Unfortunately the FB misses his block and Hingle is smeared. Fumbliyah! Fumbleroosky! Utah recovers the ball but time runs out. Halftime..
Chad ran into the locker room infuriated with how they were playing. They’ve destroyed teams all year long, with the exception of losing to Utah earlier in the season. Now it’s happening all over again. They can’t lose. DSFL scouts are at this game and his future is at stake.
Quarter 3 – The Griz receive the ball and take it out to the Griz 21 yard line. Something seems a little different with the game plan. The head coach begins running most of his plays from I formation. Play after play he begins running the ball. You can look across the way and see the Utah’s head coach begin to smile. (run that ball, run that clock down…) 9 runs later and 3 first downs, the Griz run a flea flicker from i-formation. Chesty lobs the ball for a 42 yard TD. TOUCHDOWN Griz!!! Utah leads 14-7.
Quarter 4 – Utah receives the ball. Billy Mcfarlan of Utah takes it out of the endzone. Runs to the left and is forced to cut back. Billy swings around to the far right side and he’s off to the races. Chad Maulolo tackles him at the Griz 48 yard line. Utah pushes the ball down to the Griz 28 yard line before they are forced to kick a field goal. It’s good! Utah leads 17-7.
The Griz receive the ball. Hingle McCringleberry is back in the game. Hingle receives the ball and dodges right, dodges left. Miss, miss. Hingle takes it down the sideline… He has 1 defender left. Hingle stiff arms the Utah defenders face right into the ground. TOUCHDOWN Griz!! Utah leads 17-14.
Utah receives ball. Billy Mcfarlan muffs the kick again! Again Utah recovers the ball at the 4 yard line. Utah lines up at the line of scrimmage. They hike the ball. Here he comes… Chad Maulolo around the edge. Safety! Utah leads 17-16 with 48 seconds left.
The Griz receive the ball. Hingle kneels in the endzone and they take it at the 20 with 48 seconds left. 1st play Chesty completes to WR Freddie Kittens. Freddie makes it to the 50 yard line with about 22 seconds left. 1st Down. The Griz hike the ball. Blitz! Chesty boot legs to left and has to run out of bounds at the Utah 44. 5 seconds left. Just out of field goal range the Griz go for the hail marry. They know it, Utah knows it, everyone knows it. The Griz lineup 5 wide receivers, empty backfield. They hike the ball. Chesty waits, he dodges 1 defender, he pulls back, pump fake… A second defender leaps into the air. Chesty sails it to the endzone. Jerry Ice (WR) goes up for the ball….. Incomplete! And that’s the game. Utah wins 17-16.
Wait wait there’s a flag on Utah. Blocking to the back. The Montana Griz have 1 more shot. They get the ball back on the Utah 44 with 1 second left. They go for the field goal. This is a 63 yard field goal. The Griz hike the ball. It’s a fake FG. Chesty tucks the ball and runs to the right side. He’s off to the races. The 40, 30, 20, 10, 5 and TOUCHDOWNNNNOOOoOoo wait….. he’s brought down at the 2 yard line. Utah wins!
I guess Chesty should have done 1 more task.
