*Ducky Donut - The Draft - 1

Sitting at home, late Monday night, around a TV on a wooden stand. Family huddled around, on couches, chairs, stools, the floor. All watching and waiting expectantly for the DSFL draft to start. Small talk about football, the kids, life. The two draftees sit together, too anxious to talk. The first pick is announced. The chatter stops. "With the first pick in the Season 16 DSFL Draft, the San Antonio Marshals select Ashley Owens!" Small cheers from the family at home, roars from the television in front of them. One man in a sea of draftees, in a world of seven billion, the honor of being selected first in the draft. One of many "Once in a lifetime"s happening at today's draft. The second and third picks, each a life-changing moment for one family, just another pick for many more. Banners wave on walls, soon to be changed as a new allegiance is announced. Loyalties change in the blink of an eye as a new player's team is announced, as a new era starts in these players' lives. Then. "With the fourth overall pick in the season 16 DSFL Draft, the Portland Pythons select-" Breath held throughout the room, anticipation building- "Saba Donut!" The room erupts in cheers as two brothers embrace in a hug, other family members soon to join in. Ten more picks announced before they're back in their seats, Family members surprise him with team-themed gifts, one of six bought to have any use. A draftee's dream fulfilled, anticipation taken off of his conscience, with expectations from teammates and fans weighing on the next moment. But it's not over yet. One more draftee still waiting, each pick dragging his soul lower and lower. Expectations of undraftedness rise as family members uncomfortably shuffle in their seats, nothing to say. Each team having three, four, five picks as the time drags on, each second becomes an hour, each pick another better player, another draft hopeful's dreams fulfilled before his. Then, finally, the moment arrives. "With the twenty-second pick in the Season 16 DSFL draft, the Kansas City Coyotes select- Ducky Donut!" Smiles on faces around the room as the mood lightens, what was inevitable becomes an impossibility, the harsh reality becoming but another thought, as cheers erupt yet again. This time another brother getting the praise, as memorabilia for his new team is traded for a hug, a smile. The draft ends, the happiness doesn't, as two brothers, dreams come true, impossible now come to life, prepare for their future in the career they'd been working to achieve their entire life. The sun sets on a lifetime goal achieved, and a lifetime of goals to come.
