We are here after the first night of Prospect Bowl games. The Mongoose just took down the Wolfpack 20-12 in their first game, and we are here with up and coming cornerback David Rector.
So David, how do you feel about your first game action since college?
David: I think it went great. We held the opposing QB to under 50% completion rate on the day and under 100 yards passing. As a team you can't ask for much better than that. Personally, I still have a lot of work to do. I didn't get a single Pass Defense or Interception tonight, but I did get 4 tackles. I just hope to make a good enough impression to the scouts of the DSFL teams so that I get drafted early.
I'm sure with that humble attitude you will have many teams interested in drafting you. Have you had any teams contact you yet?
David: Funny that you mention it, I did actually have a scout from one of the DSFL teams come up to me after the game and ask me a few questions. I saw him pretty much talking to everyone though, so it's probably just standard procedure for that team.
Excellent, well I'm sure other teams will be showing interest soon as well. Obviously, it is very early in your career, but after your first game action are there any areas in particular that you want to improve right away?
David: Absolutely, I need to improve in all aspects of the game, but I feel like the best thing I can do immediately is improve my speed. If I can do a better job of keeping up with the opposing wideout I will have a better opportunity for those pass defenses and interceptions that I very much crave. You might not know this, but I left NC State as the all time leader in interceptions at 20. I hope to continue that at the next level. After speed, there are a number of different things I need to improve. I need to work on catching, so I can get more interceptions. I need to study up film more, so I can get smarter and know where the quarterback is going to throw the ball. It's not going to be an over night process, but I am going to put in the hard work in order to make sure I help whatever team drafts me win each and every game. My goal is to bring my team the coveted Ultimini before I get drafted by a NSFL team and I hopefully have a shot at many Ultimus titles down the line.
Wow, you definitely have lofty goals for your future. Speaking of your future, you have another Prospect game tonight against the Cobras. What are your goals for tonight?
David: I'll do whatever my team needs me to in order to win the game. Personally, I hope to record a pass defense, and maybe if I get really lucky an interception. Other than that I just hope we can smother the passing attack of the opposing team again and not give up any big plays.
Alright David, thank you for your time. Best of luck in the game tonight against the Cobras.
Come back tomorrow to find out if David Rector was able to get any pass defenses or interceptions against the Cobras as we continue to follow this prospect all the way through the prospect bowl and into the dsfl draft.
