Welcome back to another season of Taco Tuesday! Due to some scheduling conflicts, this is a bit late, and for that I apologize. Same content, different day - lets get this show on the road!
In case you're new to this, the league Taco is decided based on who has the lowest score in fantasy at the point that this article is being written. (Taco is a character on the League, makes dumb picks, yada yada yada). Before we get to our lovable loser this week, I'd like to take a chance to showcase the ADP (average draft position) spreadsheet I'm using for my analysis as a preview on some interesting storylines for this fantasy season.
ADP spreadsheet? Have I seen this before? Yes, you probably have. @nickyvmlp had an outstanding article last week analyzing the top players at each position based on ADP. Last season, @Bigred1580 had his own spreadsheet that was extremely helpful for me as I launched the Taco Tuesday series. So, I have created one of my own that is pretty much the same as that, updated for this season.

FIRST LOOK:
As you can see on the spreadsheet, I marked some picks that I thought were slight reaches, big reaches, and good value picks. It was super interesting to see the vast differences in drafting strategies between the groups. What was even more interesting was seeing the wide range of draft position across the groups for certain players. For example, Ashley Owens was picked in the top ten in many of the groups, even going 1oa in one, while one group didn't even draft him. The most contentious player on the board though was Tyler Swift, who was drafted in the top 20 in seven groups (top 10 in four of those, as high 2oa), while he went undrafted in six of the groups. I added notes to a few of the picks I thought were particularly interesting - hover over those if you get a chance.
Each group seemed to have some really intriguing draft strategies - from choosing QB's 1oa to picking a defense in the second round. For example, group 1 had 3 huge reaches in a row between round 1 & 2 - going from Tyler Swift 5th, to Franklin Armstrong 6th, to Laszlo Forty-Two 7th. Not to disrespect these players at all as this is just based on their ADP, but these picks are head-scratchers to say the least. In group 14, we had a lot of picks that I swear had to be a top level trolling attempt. The Copperheads and the Sabercats defense are tied in ADP even though Austin was only picked in this group - AT 8 OVERALL. Then, Austins kicker was picked 17th, and Austin Cole was picked up at number 20...all by the same person. Needless to say, this is the perfect appetizer for our main course - this week's Taco!
@Raven
Dear mother of Sally, Raven, please tell me what you were thinking with this draft? Was it a stick-it-to-the-man anti-establishment protest against HO? Is this your idea of masochism? Or are you an agent of chaos attempting to bring anarchy to our peaceful fantasy football community? Whatever the reason, I'm not going to sugar coat it, you had an awful draft. And I thought Caltroits last season would be the worst I'd ever see. Anyway, lets see what nightmare of a team Raven is dealing with this season:
QB: Easton Cole
RB: Thomas Carrasco
WR: Rylant Wright (formerly: Sunnycursed)
WR: Devon Baxter
TE: Balthazar Crindy
FLEX: Murphy
K: Alfredo Crisco
DEF:
Total points so far: 146.06
When asked if the Raven had any hope of scoring well this season, it responded "Nevermore". I'm not sure what that means, but it is obvious it doesn't bode well for Raven as he is going into full tank mode after dropping Sunnycursed for...Rylant Wright? Who in the name of Odin is that? Its pretty clear that this team shouldn't be taken to seriously, but lets analyse this draft anyway for shits and giggles and see what exactly went wrong here. (Spoilers: picking the worst defense in the league in round 2 is not an ideal draft strategy)
Round 1, pick 5: Sunnycursed, WR
Great start to the draft. At this point, it was known that Sunnycursed had signed with the Otters and would be the number 1 option on their offense. As a high TPE, historically well-performing WR this is a good pick. With the 5th best ADP this is exactly where he should have gone, and would be a great waiver pickup for someone else in the group since Raven has dropped him for a no name WR that I didn't know existed.
Round 2, pick 8: Copperheads D
Just like that, the train has gone off the rails shortly after leaving the station. My advice for anyone reading this: Never pick a defense this early no matter how good they are. And if they aren't good, as Austin definitely is no where near a top defense this year, don't pick them at all. Seriously, what in the living fuck is this. ANYTHING would have been better than this pick. If you are trying to be a meme, Raven, you are succeeding.
Round 3, pick 17: Alfredo Crisco, K
Well, even though I hadn't been taking this seriously after the last pick, this solidified my opinion that this draft is just a big ole joke. Why, out of all of the kickers, would you pick Crisco as your first option, and why do it in round three? Advice for others out there: this is a good time to get a WR or high-end TE. Never pick a kicker here.
Round 4, pick 20: Easton Cole, QB
Fun fact, this is the only time Cole was selected in the fantasy draft. COLE-TRAIN is one of the lowest rated QB's out there, he is on a similar level as Wolfie McPickSix. Anyone with a brain can see that there were much better options here. Cooter was on the board, and he slid all the way to 27. Why are you doing this to me Raven?
Round 5, pick 29: Devin Baxter, WR
Oh great, Raven picked a WR finally. Its worth noting that he still doesn't have a running back at this point. Along with this, who does Baxter play for? Oh Arizona? Nice. Not the best option, but the good news (for once) is you weren't the only to pick him, and not the earliest to pick him either! So, you've got that going for you. Still, in a vacuum ignoring the travesty that is the rest of this draft, I would have picked another option. Xavier Flash, Brock Landers, Josh Parker, Terry Taffy...all would have been better. But, that would be assuming this draft was being taken seriously, which I refuse to believe.
Round 6, pick 32: Thomas Carrasco, RB
Ah, there it his. He gets his RB 1. I honestly don't think Carrasco is that bad, all things considered, but he wasn't drafted in any other group and if he is your starting RB...you're gonna have a problem. Tanking is going swimmingly so far, but the worst is thankfully behind us now. At least he doesn't have to draft a dumb kicker or defense in these late rounds like the other dorks have to do, right?
Round 7, pick 41: Balthazar Crindy, TE
Crindy definitely isn't the TE that he once was, but what else are you going to do at TE at this point. Sure, there were other options that could have been drafted (I'm noticing a pattern here...) but he isn't that bad is he? Oh, he's only scored 6 points so far? Damn...better luck next time. Another miss for Raven, surprise surprise.
Round 8, pick 48: Jeffrey Murphy, RB
Where's Waldo? There's Waldo! Of all the bad picks in the draft, I finally have something positive to say! And that is, hey, somebody else in group 4 reached for him at pick 23, so you didn't do so bad! In all seriousness though, I think Murphy is a tad underrated. Sure, he isn't a top RB by any stretch of the imagination, but he's doing better than Marquise Brown right now, so that's something! Not a bad selection for the final pick of the draft.
In conclusion, Raven...get help. For real. Don't put me through that again please. I'm glad that I'm done looking through this draft. Remember when I said "lovable loser" at the beginning? Well, my love has faded, you can go jump in a vat of molten steel for all I care. I know you can do better, and I'm sure you will next season!
Thats a wrap for this episode of Taco Tuesday! Thank you for reading, and tune in again next week to find out who our next Taco will be!
