Welcome to a segment where I will pick apart certain games and diagnose a drive, play or quarter. This piece includes a blunder in time management, an outburst of scoring, a tie, and a comeback.
Week 2 - Seawolves vs Solar Bears – 27 -20 Final Score
Jump right into the middle of the fourth quarter and after trading a pair of punts the Solar Bears are still down 20 -13. Marching across midfield, the bears were on a rushing roll. For the second time of the game Helmet (189 yards, 1 TD, 2 Int) throws a pick, except this time it is returned 59 yards for a touchdown by Grimmer (4 Tackles, 1 PD, 1 Int, 1 TD). The bears are down and not out being behind 14. They march back with a rush heavy attack sprinkled in with timely completions. Charles Allan caps it off with a 3-yard TD plunge to put the Polar Bears within 7. Here is where PB gets some help from the self-proclaimed G.O.A.T Gimmy Jaroppolo! Gimmy decides to call his own number here and has two straight passing plays. Like the Prospect Bowl he misses the wide side of the field. Norfolk punt and give PB great field position. SIM luck strikes! At midfield with 0:58 seconds remaining PB does not use its last time out; get a play off or anything. Heart breaking loss for a team searching for their first win only to have it ripped away by the SIM overlords.
Week 8 Coyotes vs Seawolves 17 - 16
Kickers are people too! The coyotes squeak out a come from behind win in one of the more exiting games that a low scoring one can be. The sturdy veteran presence of Dexter Banks and Jay Longshaw capped off a penalty filled drive that gave little hope of scoring at all for Kansas. At one point completing a 30 yard pass to negate all those.
Week 2 – Luchadores vs Marshals – 20 – 44 Finals score
Preface – Three touchdowns and a field goal in one quarter! In the dule between Luchadores and Marshals the moustache men weren’t attacking with the six shooter revolver they are known for. The offence brought a full-fledged Gatling gun and shredded the Luchadores which few teams have been able to do this season. Three different players scored a touchdown, Ruff Ruff (obviously), Biggums and Vaz vulture a TD from the second head of the rushing monster Hanyadi. Louisiana Purchase helped the scoring burst by causing a turnover yet the biggest help was the Luchadores themselves. They could not sustain any drives and were stuffed on their usually effective ground game.
Week 3 – Coyotes vs Marshals – 7 -41
Honestly, I’m only highlighting this Marshal game as an intro to the theme of the next highlights. Three sacks, a forced fumble and two picks by the border patrollers gave the offense easy great field position all day. Hanyadi may have had two Rushing touchdowns, along with Biggums on the receiving side but that was made possible because of the defense laying out the red carpet. Franchet and Baldari stream rolled that carpet flat like the quarterbacks they've hit to become the league leaders in sacks.
Week 5 - Marshals vs Pythons week 5 – 21 - 40
The defense led the charge in this game for San Antonio. Louisiana Purchase and Merry both had interceptions returned for touchdowns. To increase his Defensive Player of the Year Award Purchase added 3 pass deflections and eight tackles. Some people say that the defensive line cause interceptions and defensive backs cause cover sacks and you can say both about this offense. The nasty line add three more sacks to their total this game and continue to lead the league in that category.
Week 6 – Marshals vs Luchadores - TIE
What the F@#$ SIM! Call a timeout or kick a field goal. Do something!
