Looking Ahead for the Luchadores
From the Baja Post
With the DSFL season coming to a close, and the playoffs looming ahead, the Tijuana Luchadores are preparing to finish the season strong, and prepare for the playoffs. The Luchadores have won three games in a row after a disappointing loss to the Kansas City Coyotes, and are looking forward to traveling to Portland to take on an Ultimini favorite, the Pythons. With the game coming up in a few days, the Post has reached out to rookie Luchador Safety Joseph Wozniak about how the team is getting ready for the big game.
The Post: What are your thoughts one playing for the Luchadores so far this season? Is it any different from what you expected?
Joseph Wozniak: “I have had a great time playing for Tijuana this season, and it has blown away all my expectations so far. To come into a team with a great culture and playoff aspirations has been a great way to develop my skills and prepare for the NSFL.”
The Post: What are your thoughts on your fellow rookies with the Luchadores? We know you had a public fight with standout safety Wayne Howyanow, is that resolved?”
Joseph Wozniak: “The other rookies have been great, especially Thudd and Wayne. I don’t like when people say Wayne and I had a fight, we were just messing around and joking. He’s a solid teammate, and might not be a terrible NSFL player so day. Although he definitely benefits from playing next to an amazing strong safety who carries his sorry a**.”
The Post: How confident are you going into the game with Portland?
Joseph Wozniak: “Portland is a great team, and have had a good season so far, but this is our chance to prove that we are the top team. We know that we have to put forth the maximum effort for this game.”
The Post: What is your team’s strategy for the game?
Joseph Wozniak: “We plan to score lots of points, and give up very few. As long as we score more points than they do then we should win. Not so sure about that, but I am hopeful.”
The Post: Have you begun thinking about the upcoming draft?
Joseph Wozniak: “Our team’s main priority is on finishing the season strong and preparing for the playoffs.”
The post attempted to reach out to team leading tackler Thudd Kassel but he refused to talk the Post. This raises concerns over a player who is already facing large draft concerns.
Expectations remain high the Tijuana Luchadores, after GM Tom Hanks promised to shave his head should his team not win the Ultimini.
