I got even lazier than usual last week and failed to write an article for Week 13, so I’ve decided to not only make this article a two week one, but unlike my last couple of articles I’m going to actually get into more detail on both the NFL games, and the comparison games that correspond. On that note, we are at an awkward time in the NSFL calendar in the early part of a season, so there will be some games from this current season and some from last season. With how busy everything is at this time of the year I think I will also combine weeks 15 and 16 into one article as well, and then we will finish the season out with the final week.
Bears over Lions
The David Blough lead Lions actually had the lead for the majority of this game, but the Bears were able to score a touchdown with just over 2 minutes to go to take the lead and win the game 24 to 20. The Lions drop to 3-8-1 and have now lost 5 games in a row. The Bears are 6-6 and will have to find a way to beat both the Packers and Vikings if they want to sneak into the playoffs.
The comp for this game is Yeti at Lions. The Yeti started out fast with two quick touchdowns in the first quarter, and they never looked back. Two pick sixes in the first half had the score at 24 to 10 to start the second half. All in all the Yeti picked off Francisco 5 times in this 30 to 20 victory on the road. Me: 1-0, Comps: 1-0
Cowboys over Bills
The Cowboys lost at home on Thanksgiving to the Bills 26 to 15. The scoring is pretty strange in this one. The Cowboys opened up the scoring with a Jason Witten touchdown early in the first and also scored the last score with a Ventell Bryant touchdown, but everything in between was all Buffalo. Former Cowboy Cole Beasley opened up the scoring for the Bills, and halfway through the fourth quarter they were up 26 to 7 and the game was pretty much over with a garbage time touchdown pass to help pad some stats. The Cowboys are now only 6-6, but still lead the NFC East while the Bills are 9-3 and are right on the heels of the Patriots in the AFC East.
Copperheads at Outlaws. The home Outlaws won this game, but the Copperheads kept it close. At the half the score was 13 to 10 in favor of the Outlaws. In the middle of the fourth a Chase Jensen pick six made the score 30 to 24 in favor of the Outlaws, but the Copperheads weren’t able to score again and teh Outlaws added on a Saba Donut touchdown to make the final score 37 to 24. Me: 1-1, Comps: 1-1
Saints over Falcons
The Saints took care of the Falcons in a game that had a lot of field goals. The Saints scored a Taysom Hill touchdown with 11 minutes left in the first and kept the lead for the rest of the game. The Falcons were able to get it within 8 points with about 2 minutes to go, but it was too little too late at that point. The Saints are now 10-2 and have clinched the NFC South and the Falcons are 3-9.
Wraiths at Liberty. Similar to this game the Wraiths took an early lead in this game and never gave it up. The Wraiths beat the Liberty on the road by a score of 16 to 7. Neither team did that much and for almost the entire second half the score of 9 to 7, but the Wraiths sealed the win with a 2 yard run from Morgan Marshall with 28 seconds left. Me: 2-1, Comps: 2-1
Jets over Bengals
I’m shocked to say this, but the Bengals have finally managed to win a game this season. Something I wasn’t sure would happen. They smothered the Jets and beat them 22 to 6. Not sure what happened to the Jets in this one, but they couldn’t find a way to score at all and the Bengals surprisingly did. The Jets are now 4-8 and the Bengals are 1-11 and look to be in position to have the top pick in the draft, and most people think they’ll draft LSU star Joe Burrow.
I compared both of these teams to the SaberCats, so no comp game to look at unfortunately. Me: 2-2, Comp: 2-1-1
Colts over Titans
With just over 5 minutes to go in a tie game the Colts lined up for a field goal and the Titans blocked it and returned it 63 yards for the go ahead touchdown. Only 2 minutes later they scored on a 40 yard touchdown pass from Tannehill to Kalif Raymond to seal the victory. The Colts had a 10 point lead with 10 minutes left in the 3rd and the Titans proceeded to score 24 straight points. The Titans are now 7-5 and have a decent chance at making the playoffs while the Colts drop to 6-6 and will more than likely be on the outside looking in.
Butchers at Hawks. The Hawks beat the Butchers in Baltimore by a score of 28 to 23 in a close game that they lead almost the entire time. It seemed like anytime the Hawks would take a decent lead the Butchers would turn around and score to keep it close, but never could get over that hump. The interesting thing about this game is the Butchers had almost 200 yards more of offense than the Hawks, but the Hawks were able to be more efficient with the ball when they had it. Me: 2-3, Comps: 2-2-1
Chiefs over Raiders
The Chiefs improve to 8-4 in a dominant 40 to 9 win against division rival Raiders. The Chiefs held the Raiders scoreless until the 4th quarter. The Raiders fall to 6-6 on the season, and are hovering on the line to make the wildcard in the AFC.
Copperheads at Otters. This is a game that has actually happened already in season 19. The Otters beat the Copperheads 27 to 14 and only gave up points to the Copperheads in the 2nd quarter. Austin actually took the lead for a brief moment in the 2nd quarter when they scored on a 41 yard touchdown pass from Cole to Anoa’i, but a mere 4 minutes later the Otters retook the lead on a 26 yard pass from Armstrong to Blaze and the Otters didn’t give up any more points. Me: 3-3, Comps: 3-2-1
Eagles over Dolphins
The Eagles got embarrassed by the Dolphins in Miami in a 37 to 31 victory for the Dolphins. The Eagles are now only 5-7 and need to turn it around if they want to win the NFC East. Luckily, no one else in the East is much better and they are only one game back from the Cowboys after Week 13. The Dolphins are now 3-9 and have played their way out of the top spot in the draft due to some Ryan Fitzmagic.
Outlaws at SaberCats. Unlike the NFL outcome this one was decidedly on the side of the Outlaws. After a 7 all tie at the end of the first quarter the Outlaws put up 24 unanswered points to win the game 31 to 7. Saba Donut and Vinny Valentine both caught two touchdown passes from Andrew Reese. Me: 3-4, Comps: 3-3-1
Packers over Giants
The Packers took care of business against the Giants winning 31 to 13 to improve to 9-3. They were able to put up 14 points in both the first and fourth quarter on four Aaron Rodgers passing touchdowns. The Giants are now 2-10 and in the running for the top pick in the draft. Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones is injured now and Eli Manning will be starting in his place this week.
Wraiths at Butchers. In the middle of season 18 the Wraiths beat the Butchers 40 to 16. After a first quarter field goal battle the Wraiths opened up the scoring with two Cooter Bigsby touchdown passes in the second. The teams swapped scores again in the 3rd, but the 4th was dominated by the Wraiths in a fairly easy victory. Bigsby just like Rodgers threw 4 touchdowns in this game. Me: 4-4, Comps: 4-3-1
Panthers over Redskins
The Panthers fall to 5-7 after an embarrassing home loss to the Washington Redskins. Ron Rivera was fired after this game, and people who thought Kyle Allen was potentially the answer at quarterback have now hopefully learned their lesson. What frustrates me the most as a Panthers fan is the fact that we drafted Will Grier in the third round and he hasn’t gotten a chance to show what he can do on the field. Now that the Panthers season is over in terms of making the playoffs I see no reason not to start Grier for the last four games of the season to be able to properly evaluate his talent. I just hope the Panthers lose out to secure a top 10 draft pick. The Redskins are now 3-9, and due to how bad the NFC East is they are technically not out of the playoffs yet.
SaberCats at Second Line. The Second Line beat the SaberCats at home in a game that wasn’t close until the very end when the score ended up being 21 to 18. After taking an early lead with a Kicky Bobby field goal the Second Line scored three touchdowns making the lead 21 to 3 with 14 minutes remaining. The SaberCats proceeded to score twice, the last one with 25 seconds remaining to make it a 3 point game. Slothface recovered the onside kick attempt and the game was over. Me: 4-5, Comps: 4-4-1
Bucs over Jags
The Bucs opened the floodgates early in this one and never looked back in a 28 to 11 win against the Jags. A couple of Peyton Barber rushing touchdowns and a Devin White fumble return touchdown had the Bucs up 25 to 0 at the half and they were able to coast to an easy victory in the second half. The Bucs are now 5-7 while the Jags fall to 4-8.
Liberty at Copperheads. The Liberty beat the Copperheads at the end of season 18 by a score of 34 to 24. The Liberty opened up the scoring with 10 first quarter points before the Copperheads got into the game in the 2nd quarter making it a 17 to 13 Copperheads lead at the half. The Liberty went on to score 14 unanswered points in the third to make it 27 to 17 at the start of the fourth quarter. An Ashley Owens rushing touchdown made it a 3 point game with a little over 13 minutes left, but that wasn’t enough to win the game as the Liberty sealed the victory with a Torenson rushing touchdown with just over 3 minutes left. Me: 5-5, Comps: 5-4-1
Ravens over 49ers
The most anticipated game of the week, and it did not disappoint. An extremely close game throughout ended on a 49 yard field goal from Justin Tucker to win the game as time expired. Lamar Jackson impressively passed and ran for over 100 yards and had a touchdown doing both. Both teams are now 10-2 and this could easily be a Super Bowl rematch.
Wraiths at Hawks. Luckily this game happened in week 3 of season 19, so I get to talk about it now. This was one of the most exciting games I’ve seen on the sim. The Wraiths were able to score 13 points in the first half and held the Hawks to just 3. A Mathias Hanyadi receiving touchdown was the only touchdown of the first half. The Hawks came out swinging in the second half with a huge 61 yard pick six that was followed only 5 minutes later by an Errol Maddox touchdown that made the score 17 to 13 Hawks at the start of the fourth quarter. Baltimore extended the lead to 20 to 13 at the early part of the fourth and a few minutes later the Wraiths answered with another field goal with 9 minutes left that made it a 4 point game. With under 4 minutes to play the Wraiths got the ball on the 20 yard line down 4. After a 28 yard completion to Swift the Wraiths drive stalled and they faced a 4th and 16 from their own 42. Bigsby was able to find Helanen for 39 yards on that crucial 4th down to set up the Wraiths with 1st and 10 from the 19 yard line with 1:21 remaining. Poor time management left the Wraiths with 6 seconds remaining from the 13 yard line and on the final play of the game Bigsby found Swift in the end zone to win the game. Me: 6-5, Comps: 5-5-1
Rams over Cardinals
The Rams took care of business against the Cardinals to improve to 7-5. They won 34 to 7 and didn’t give up any points until the 4th quarter. The Cardinals fall to 3-8-1.
Hawks at Copperheads. The Copperheads took care of business at home against the Hawks last season in a 45 to 26 victory. Ashley Owens had a great day with both a rushing and receiving touchdown. Django Anoa’i had 2 receiving touchdowns in the game. The Copperheads opened the scoring in the first, and while the score was close a few different times the Copperheads never lost the lead. With 10 minutes remaining in the game a Ludicolo Bigby touchdown made it a 5 point game, but two Easton Cole touchdown passes later and the Copperheads had made the game out of reach. Me: 7-5, Comps: 5-6-1
Chargers over Broncos
The Broncos beat the Chargers by a score of 23 to 20 on a Brandon McManus 53 yard field goal as time expired. The Broncos opened up the game with 2 Courtland Sutton touchdowns to take an early 14 to 0 lead, but the Chargers were able to come back and make it interesting, but it wasn’t quite enough. Both teams are 4-8 and firmly out of the playoffs.
Yeti at Liberty. In week 2 of season 19 the Yeti traveled to Philly and won this game on the road 16 to 7. The Yeti did all the scoring in the first half opening up a 16 to 0 lead heading into the second half. In the second the Liberty finally broke through for the first score with about 4 minutes remaining in the third to make it 16 to 7. After that neither team found a way to score. Me: 7-6, Comps: 5-7-1
Steelers over Browns
After the craziness in the last Steelers Browns game this one was mild with the Steelers winning 20 to 17. The Steelers improve to 7-5 and are in position to make the playoffs while the Browns fall to 5-7 and have basically no chance at the playoffs.
Butchers at Yeti. In the middle of season 18 the Butchers went on the raod and played an extremely close game against the Yeti that they ended up winning 13 to 8. Only one touchdown was scored in this game when Oles caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter. All the other scores were either field goals or a safety. The Butchers were down 7 to 8 with 13:54 left in the fourth, but a Kulture Fulture field goal with 9 minutes left put them ahead for the big win on the road. Me: 8-6, Comps: 5-8-1
Patriots over Texans
The Texans were able to get the upset over the Patriots and hand them their second loss on the season. The Texans impressively and also interestingly scored exactly 7 points in each quarter and held the Patriots to just 3 points until late in the 3rd quarter. The Patriots are now 10-2 and the Texans are 8-4.
Wraiths at Outlaws. The Outlaws beat the Wraiths in this season 18 matchup by 15 points in a game that was much closer than the final score. Yellowknife was up 20 to 14 at the half and only down 27 to 28 to start the fourth quarter, but the Outlaws scored twice in the fourth to win the game. It’s kinda surprising how similar this game was to the NFL game. Me: 8-7, Comps: 6-8-1
Seahawks over Vikings
The Seahawks won this game to improve to 10-2 against the now 8-4 Vikings. This was a close game with the score at halftime being 17 to 10 Vikings, but the Seahawks scored 24 straight points to make it 34 to 17 in the early part of the fourth quarter. The Vikings then scored twice to make it a four point game, but that wasn’t enough to beat the Seahawks.
I compared both of these teams to the Otters, and with how close this game was that seems pretty accurate. Me: 9-7, Comps: 6-8-2
Now, onto week 14. As you’ll see by the fact that I got quite a few games wrong, even though I didn’t make my week 14 picks in my week 13 post, since there wasn’t a week 13 post these are my actual picks that I submitted on Thursday prior to kickoff of the Thursday night game.
Cowboys over Bears
The Cowboys tried to make a late comeback after being down 24 to 7 to start the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough. Jason Garrett is unlikely to keep his job, but the Cowboys could still make the playoffs. They are currently 6-7 but have a better shot at the playoffs than the 7-6 Bears.
Outlaws at Yeti. The Outlaws and Yeti played a close one in season 18 that was won by the Outlaws on a late go ahead touchdown by Slim Shady with 1 minute to go. At the half the Outlaws were up 17 to 7, but the Yeti came back and scored four times in a row to take a 23 to 17 lead early in the fourth. With under four minutes to go a Stephen Harris Jr field goal, his fourth of the game, put the Yeti up 6 points. The Outlaws opened up their drive with a 50 yard pass to Vinny Valentine. The next play could have changed the whole game as Slim Shady rushed for 8 yards, but Berry forced a fumble. Luckily for the Outlaws it was recovered by Unk. A couple plays later and Slim Shady was in the endzone and the Outlaws were up one point after Clutch made the extra point. Me: 0-1, Comps: 0-1
Ravens over Bills
This was a great battle against two very good teams. The Ravens took an early 10 to 0 lead, but the Bills made it 10 to 6 going into the half. At the end of the third the score was still close at 17 to 9, but with 10 minutes left the Ravens scored again to make it 24 to 9. At that point it looked like the game might be over, but the Bills made it interesting by scoring a touchdown with a two point conversion with 7 minutes left. They weren’t able to score again and the Ravens won. The biggest difference in this game is that the Bills settled for a field goal 3 times in this game and only one touchdown while the Ravens scored 3 touchdowns and only one field goals. That just proves to me that scoring points on field goals is a prime way to lose a game.
Hawks at Second Line. The Hawks completely dominated the Second Line near the end of season 18. After going up 10 to 0 at the end of the first quarter the Second Line scored a Forrest Gump rushing touchdown to make it 10 to 7. The Hawks proceeded to score four straight touchdowns including two Errol Maddox receiving touchdowns, which made the score 38 to 7 to start the fourth quarter. Forrest Gump scored again on a one yard rush with about two minutes to go to make the final score 38 to 14. Me: 1-1, Comps: 1-1
Falcons over Panthers
Unsurprisingly the Panthers lost to the Falcons by a score of 40 to 20. The highlight for Falcons fans is probably the 93 yard touchdown from Matt Ryan to Olamide Zaccheaus. For some reason Kyle Allen is still starting for the now 5-8 Panthers instead of seeing what Will Grier can do. The Falcons are now up to 4-9 and hopefully will win at least one or two more to get ahead of the Panthers in the standings.
Second Line at Liberty. The Second Line came out swinging in this one opening up the scoring early with an Action Jackson touchdown and then a Vladimir Fyodorovich touchdown to make it 14 to 0 after the first quarter. The Second Line scoring continued in the second with a Forrest Gump touch down and an Alex Frost field goal before the Liberty finally got on the board at the end of the half to make it 24 to 7. A safety and a Bona’beri Jones touchdown made it 33 to 7 halfway through the 3rd quarter. The Liberty were able to score two more touchdowns and the final score was 36 to 21. Me: 2-1, Comps: 1-2
Browns over Bengals
The Bengals kept it close for the majority of the game, but the Browns scored a couple touchdowns while the Bengals settled for field goals. The Bengals fall to 1-12 while the Browns improve to 6-7.
SaberCats at Butchers. The SaberCats actually beat the Butchers in season 18 by a score of 24 to 23. It was a close game throughout that was back and forth quite a bit. At the half the score was 14 to 10 in favor of the SaberCats. At the end of the third the Butchers were up 20 to 17 and early in the fourth extended that lead with a field goal to make it 23 to 17. With 5 minutes remaining the SaberCats scored on a one yard rush by Chris Orosz and Kicky Bobby made the extra point to go up 24 to 23 and the SaberCats won. Me: 3-1, Comps: 1-3
Texans over Broncos
The Broncos came out guns blazing and had a dominant 31 to 3 lead at the half. The Texans weren’t able to score enough in the second half to make it close and the Broncos won. The Texans fall to 8-5, but are still in prime position to win the AFC South while the Broncos improve to 5-8.
Liberty at Outlaws. The Liberty took an early lead with two first quarter touch downs and by the end of the third quarter they were up 24 to 10. The Outlaws then woke up and scored 17 straight points including a Cameron Clutch 42 yard field goal with 14 seconds left to take the lead and win the game 27 to 24. Me: 3-2, Comps: 1-4
Vikings over Lions
The Vikings won this one pretty easily. They had a 20 to 0 lead in the fourth before the Lions were able to score a Kenny Golladay touchdown to make it 20 to 7. The Lions fall to 3-9-1 and the Vikings improve to 9-4 and in position to at least by a wild card team.
Second Line at Otters. This was a pretty close game for the majority of it. At the end of the half the Otters had a 13 to 9 lead, but a Marcella Toriki rushing touchdown made it 16 to 13 halfway through to third quarter. Unfortunately, the Otters then scored 13 straight points and won the game 26 to 16. Me: 4-2, Comps: 2-4
Colts over Bucs
This was a high scoring back and forth game. Near the end of the third quarter the Colts scored a Zach Pascal touchdown to make it a 35 to 21 game before the Bucs scored 17 straight points to win 38 to 35 scoring the go ahead touchdown with 4 minutes left in the game.
Hawks at Liberty. The Hawks won this one after taking a big 28 to 7 lead into the half. The Liberty proceeded to chip away at the score making it 31 to 26 with 4 minutes to go, but weren’t able to score again as time ran out on them. Me: 4-3, Comps: 2-5
Jets over Dolphins
This was a very close game with the Jets winning 22 to 21. The scoring summary for this game is hilarious as there were 10 combined field goals scored in this game and only two touchdowns. The Dolphins scored all 21 of their points on field goals from kicker Jason Sanders. The Dolphins fall to 3-10 and the Jets improve to 5-8.
I compared both of these teams to the SaberCats, so no comp game to recap. Me: 5-3, Comps: 2-5-1
Saints over 49ers
This was a crazy high scoring game that had many lead changes against two of the best teams in the NFL this season. The 49ers ended up winning on a Robbie Gould field goal as time expired 48 to 46. The 49ers improve to 11-2 and the Saints fall to 10-3.
I compared both of these teams to the Wraiths, so no comp game to recap. Me: 5-4, Comps: 2-5-2
Packers over Redskins
The Packers took an early lead and never gave it up winning 20 to 15 to improve to 10-3 on the season while the Redskins fall to 3-10.
SaberCats at Wraiths. The Wraiths easily won this game by a score of 23 to 3. The Wraiths held the SaberCats to only 201 total yards and only 68 yards passing. Me: 6-4, Comps: 3-5-2
Jaguars over Chargers
The Chargers are the hardest team to figure out in the NFL. They just obliterated the Jags in Jacksonville 45 to 10 to improve to 5-8. The Jags fall to 4-9.
Yeti at Copperheads. The Yeti and Copperheads were evenly matched through the first half with a tie at 14 at halftime, but then the Copperheads scored 13 straight to make it 27 to 14. The Yeti scored halfway through the fourth to make it a one score game, but it wasn’t enough as the Copperheads won 30 to 21. Me: 6-5, Comps: 3-6-2
Chiefs over Patriots
The Chiefs took an early 20 to 7 lead and were able to hold on to beat the Patriots 23 to 16. The Chiefs improve to 9-4 and the Patriots fall to 10-3.
Otters at Wraiths. We all know what happens when these two face off in the playoffs, but I specifically look at regular season matchups when doing comp recaps. In the middle of s18 the Wraiths beat the Otters 24 to 20 in an exciting game. The first half was kinda dull as the score was 10 to 3 Otters at halftime, but the floodgates opened in the second. The Wraiths tied the score early in the third quarter, but 5 minutes later the Otters took a field goal lead. Near the end of the third the Wraiths scored a Jerrod Canton touchdown to take a four point lead into the fourth quarter. With 10 minutes remaining the Otters then took the lead back on an Adrian Pitcher touchdown to go up 20 to 17, but a mere 3 minutes later the Wraiths scored on a Morgan Marshall touchdown to take the lead on the final score of the game. Me: 7-5, Comps: 3-7-2
Steelers over Cardinals
This old Super Bowl rematch ended with the Steelers winning a close one 23 to 17 and improving to 8-5 and in prime position to make the playoffs. The Cardinals fall to 3-9-1.
Yeti at Copperheads. This was the same matchup as a couple games up, so I’ll just say again what I said there. Me: 8-5, Comps: 3-8-2
Raiders over Titans
Another game I was very wrong about. At the half it was tied at 21 all, but then the Titans scored another 21 points in the second half and held the Raiders to 0 to win 42 to 21. The Titans improve to 8-5 and the Raiders fall to 6-7.
Butchers at Copperheads. The Butchers completely dominated the Copperheads in a 45 to 14 victory in season 18. After it was tied 7 to 7 at the end of the first the Butchers scored 17 unanswered points to make it 24 to 7. The Copperheads tried to stay in the game with a touchdown to make it 24 to 14, but then the Butchers finished out the game with 21 straight points to make it 45 to 14. Me: 8-6, Comps: 4-8-2
Seahawks over Rams
The Rams improve to 8-5 in a big win against division rival Seahawks 28 to 12. The Seahawks never found the end zone as the Rams break the Seahawks 5 game win streak. The Rams are probably on the outside looking in as far as the playoffs are concerned.
Otters at Hawks. The Otters won this close game in come from behind fashion. It was a close game at the half with the Otters up 17 to 14, but the Hawks took over in the third quarter scoring twice to make it 28 to 17 going into the fourth quarter. Halfway through the fourth the Otters scored a Hugh Mongo touchdown to make it 28 to 23 and then only 3 minutes later scored an Apollo Reed touchdown to go up 31 to 28 and win the game. Me: 8-7, Comps: 4-9-2
Eagles over Giants
The Giants looked like they had this one early as they scored 17 points in the second quarter, but the Eagles came back and tied it up and the game went to overtime where the Eagles won to improve to 6-7 and still in position to win the NFC East amazingly enough. The Giants fall to 2-11.
Butchers at Outlaws. This game happened in week one of season 18 and the Butchers ran away with it. The score at the half was 24 to 7 Butchers and they proceeded to add two more scores to make it 38 to 7 before the Outlaws were able to score again. The final score was 38 to 16. Me: 9-7, Comps: 4-10-2
There you have it. Two weeks worth of recaps. We are getting to the final stretch of the season and there are still a lot of important games left as there will be a couple of good teams that barely miss the playoffs. I can’t guarantee that I’ll have a recap for next week or do this two week thing again, it really just depends on how busy I am next week. Here’s my picks for the week 15 games.
Ravens over Jets
Seahawks over Panthers
Patriots over Bengals
Bucs over Lions
Packers over Bears
Titans over Texans
Chiefs over Broncos
Dolphins over Giants
Eagles over Redskins
Raiders over Jaguars
Browns over Cardinals
Vikings over Chargers
Rams over Cowboys
49ers over Falcons
Bills over Steelers
Saints over Colts
