Hello folks, Scotticus Rott here again! I’m here in the FESPN studios for a post draft interview with recent 2nd round pick Rotticus Scott! Rotticus was drafted 17th overall by the Colorado Yeti!
Scotticus: So Rotti, how were the nerves going into draft night?
Rotticus: Well, Scott, honestly I was pretty scared. The league was so tight lipped about the draft I had honestly no idea where I was going to go. I loved that part of it, some times draft picks are for sure going to a team, but I honestly had no idea. It made draft night like a big event, the hours counting up to it were for sure really slow.
Scott: You ended up getting your name called by the Colorado Yeti, how do you feel about your new team?
Rotti: To be completely honest with you, I’m ecstatic. I had a really good conversation with Coach Ozzborne pre-draft, and Colorado was probably my top pick to be drafted by after that. I didn’t hear from any General Managers after the draft, so I thought a team I hadn’t spoken to might’ve gotten me! When I saw my name pop up and got the call from the front office, I was extremely happy, and I still am.
Scott: So, there was some rumblings that you might change positions post draft to better fit in with a team, is that happening?
Rotti: Absolutely not. I would’ve done it had my GM told me that was their intentions, but Colorado wants to develop me into one of the premier cornerbacks in the league. That’s the end goal for me, develop into a Kacey Dream, Dermot Lavelle Jr. or AJ Lattimer. I’m hoping to do every bit of improving and training I can this season to reach my goals.
Scott: You played safety in the DSFL, and cornerback is well known to be a rough position, are you ready for the NSFL this season?
Rotti: Yeah, the pure amount of talent we had on Myrtle Beach last season was insane. It was really fun to be in a defense like that, even if I had to play safety. Honestly, I think that experience will be good for me and give my General Manager’s the ability to move me around more. I’m excited to be playing my main position wherever I play, honestly. Going to be a lot of fun getting back into pressing those receivers off the line and ballhawking.
Scott: Rotti, I don’t mean to press, but I think you only answered half of my question there. Are you ready for the NSFL?
Rotti: Haha, you’re sharper than you look, Scott! I don’t think I’m ready for the NSFL yet, my game time after tearing my ACL in college and playing safety last season means I’m not quite ready for the NSFL, no. Coach Ozz and I agreed that I probably need a little bit more development time, so I’m not going to be suiting up with my Yetis this season. I’m going back to Carolina this season, and suiting up in the green and purple for the Buccaneers. We have some unfinished business, and I want to win that ultimini for our Myrtle Beaches.
Scott: Wow! Back to the Buccaneers! You guys have some unfinished business of course after last years ultimini, are you looking to get to the same place you were last season?
Rotti: Same place? Not a chance. That final game is going to be forever burned into my brain. I felt we didn’t play our best game, and some costly penalties left us at a point we couldn’t get back from. It’s not nice to actually lose a game 28-3. It sucks. It hurts. I want to come back this season and take that hurt out of the Buccaneer fan’s hearts. It’s my goal right now and it’s what I want to do for our squad.
Scott: Now for a fun one, what’s gonna be your first big purchase with that contract?
Rotti: Well, I want to get a house for my parents. They’ve both supported me through everything, and supported me big time when I decided to go to the University of Maine instead of a bigger FBS school. Then, I need a new car. I’m still driving around my Accord, and while it is very nice, I want to get myself one of those Teslas. I’m all about speed, and those things absolutely fly. Also, I’ve heard about these cleats that can apparently shave a few hundredths of a second off of my 40 time, and I think I’m going to have to look into getting myself a pair of those.
Scott: Alright Rotticus, one last fun one! Do you have any words of wisdom for these up and coming rookies before their draft on Thursday?
Rotti: Of course I do! My main message would be to appreciate the league you’re about to find yourself in. The DSFL is extremely fun, and that’s where you’ll be making a bunch of career long friends. Don’t worry too much about where you get drafted, I was drafted late then ended up going in the 2nd round. Also, don’t worry about what team you get drafted by! Every team can be a good one, and whether it’s Norfolk, Myrtle Beach, Portland, or an expansion team, all of the teams have their own advantages! It really is all about developing and learning the game at the next level in the DSFL, so make sure you take advantage of this year. The trash talk and big games will be fun, but make sure you take a step back and appreciate those around you making this fun for everyone.
