Day one: Jamie woke up in a daze, last night’s drinking shenanigans had left him with what seemed like the largest hangover in his life, squinting to look at the screen of his phone Jamie saw it was seven in the morning he almost let out a sigh of relief until he realised it was the day after he was to declare for the draft.
Swearing at himself, he quickly phoned his agent seeing what could be done to remedy the situation.
“What do you mean it’s too late?! Can I declare next year? No, oh okay. The XFL? You’re kidding right, no way, not enough money available to play in that league. No, I’m not going to the CFL either, I like four downs not three. Uh-huh yeah, sure I can get my name out to the DSFL for free agency. How do I do that?”
Jamie went down to the lounge area of the apartment once he had made himself semi-decent, and took a pen to a napkin to quickly write out the basics of a CV so that he could fill it out further so that he could send it out to teams: -
Height: 6’3”

College: Clemson Tigers

Day two: Jamie sat by his phone in a café patiently waiting for a call to come through from any of the teams in the DSFL to call him with any sort of interest, he sat pained as the tv flickered with images of the team GMs and prospects being discussed by talking heads, nobody had seemed to notice that he hadn’t put his name forward. No calls today.
Day three: No calls
Day four: Jamie almost fell out of the seat due to the shock and excitement of his phone ringing in his pocket, it was an unknown number which would hopefully be a good sign. It was a reporter from Fox Sports on the phone.
“Hello, Yes hello. Jamie the footballer yeah that’s me. Oh, you wanted Jameis Winston, that’s not me. I plan on being a prospect in the DSFL though, that’s a great story for you, Jamie Watson you might have heard of me? No, would you still be interested in an interview? … Hello? Are you still there?”
The reporter had hung up on him when they realised that Jamie was not who they were looking for.
Day five: Nothing, nada, no phone calls on this day what so ever.
Day six: The phone rang, Jamie ignored it while he thumbed through a book, it took it to ring two more times before he relented and picked it up.
“Hello Jamie Watson speaking, yeah, oh okay, sorry I didn’t pick up straight away…my phone was out of battery, out of battery. From Kansas City Coyotes, of course, I would be really interested in signing, the wait is this for a roster sport or practice squad? Roster great, I’ll get the next flight to Kansas to put pen to paper. Thank you, Thank you so much for your time. Bye”
Jamie fell to his knees dropping his phone to the ground when the call was hung up and yelled in sheer relief and happiness at the roof of his room. He had actually made it, all that hard work had finally paid off.
