Lion's share: my experience with the NSFL so far.
One day I was desperate to find a new sim league even though I was already in two of them (one is a baseball one I am still in and another is a football league I left due to insane drama). As I thought about it, I remember a sim league i heard about from my time running the official Twitter of the baseball league when I was an admin of it (a position I don't have the time for anymore). It was called the National Simulation Football League. I originally didn't really want to join due to the forum concept intimidating me, but I got over it and dived into the world of the NSFL, making my player and joining the official league Discord.
Turns out I joined at a perfect time, as the season was wrapping up and the offseason was approaching. Pretty soon, plenty of DSFL GMs were contacting me to do some scouting, whitch excited me as I have never been in a football sim league draft before (the football sim league i was in before was college). In fact, I think that at least almost all of the GMs contacted me. I started to make my player, a run stopping linebacker named Eric Richards, a backstory and a personality to make him stans out among the other prospects in the league. I made him a humble kid from the small town of Sheperdsville Kentucky who played college ball for both his and my favorite team the University of Kentucky.
His dad, Dean Richards, also played football thier, but a big hit from an offensive tackle ended his career. He would retire from football after that and marry his college sweetheart Jane, who was a cheerleader with UK. They are still happily married when Eric entered the DSFL draft. I made multiple stories for the media cash so I can be well stocked for the season, and got to work earning TPE. I had a hard time with the wiki, having to have a lot of help making it look good.
I finished my rookie point task eventually, made some mistakes claiming some things but managed to fix them, and waited for the DSFL draft. Along the way I got small tastes of how the sims work by watching the Prospect Bowl where Eric played...Alright. He would definitely be better later. After the prospect bowl and the NSFL draft, I saw a mock DSFL draft where Eric was picked in the 3rd round by the Kansas City Coyotes. I apparently caught the eye of some of the GMs when I said it didn't matter where I was chosen, i would play hard anywhere, which is true.
My philosophy is that no matter where I was taken in the DSFL Draft or will be taken in the NSFL draft I will play hard. It's my personal philosophy because I have no control on where I will be taken, so I will go with the flow and play hard no matter where it ends up being. It is a good philosophy to have, especially as a prospect. Eventually the DSFL draft happens, and i was taken 17th overall by the London Royals. I was a little surprised i was taken there, but I got over it and introduced myself to the private locker room, while leaving the other locker rooms I was in. I left them so I wouldn't have a lot of message and notification clutter. I got to work writing some media about Eric going to London and his experiences there, and soon it was time for preseason.
Preseason was not that good as a whole for the team, as we lost all 4 games. For Eric however, it was great as he got 50 tackles in 4 games and almost beat a record for tackles in a single game. Eric's performance got me hyped up for what he could do in the regular season, but i was a little worried about how the team as a whole will perform. Luckily for me, come the regular season we start out 2-0 and look really good as a team, with Eric becoming second in the league in tackles. It ended up really pumping me up and giving me hope, especially since we beat the Luchadores who were said to be one of the best in the DSFL.
The next week of the regular season, we went 1-1 and were still sitting on top of our division at 3-1. Originally we we.t 0-2, but thanks to the mistakes im the sim including Jamar Lackson speed being set to F, there was a resim. Soon after that, I started doing podcasts with the first one being a guest spot on Sly's podcast, vwas kind enough to let me claim the money for it. It got me hooked on making podcasts and NSFL Ramblings is still going on, with the next episode to be recorded next week. The next regular season we again went 1-1, beating one of the top capped teams the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. I wasn't able to catch those games cause company was over, but I was able to hear about it from my teammates. However the next regular season week, we lost both games to division foes, which was frustrating.
All in all, I have enjoyed my time in the NSFL. I have met some great people, made some friends, and worked my ass off with media. It was all pretty fun and I can't wait to see what happens next.
