Week 9 in the NSFL has concluded. Let's take a look at some of the games and other events from this week. The week started in Austin as the Copperheads fended off their ASFC rivals the Arizona Outlaws. This game was pretty competitive until the fourth quarter. Arizona took an early lead but they lost it in the final two minutes of the first half and were relegated to playing catch up with the Copperheads but Jay Cue and company just could not get it done. Final score
17-
31.
Meanwhile in Sarasota the Baltimore Hawks are in free fall as they get swept by the Sarasota Sailfish in their second game of the season. The Baltimore Hawks have not won a game since week two and that was against the Chicago Butchers who share a similar record of 1-8 but at least the Butchers have won a game more recently than the Hawks who they face next week in Baltimore. Personally I hope both the Butchers and Hawks are able to find some small amount of success in these final couple of weeks of regular season or failing that are able to draft some first round talents that can right these sinking ships.
Over in the DSFL the Dallas Birddogs trumped the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers in a shocking upset. The Bucs started the day off strong with a field goal and a 4 yard pitch and run by the rookie running back 3’ Jeffery his third TD of the year. Another Myrtle Beach field goal to cap off the half gave the impression that this game was already over but the Dallas defense came to life in the second half with interceptions by Raphael d’Alcott and and Tomage McGullager. Blade McCoy came in with a brutal sack and finally Colt Mendoza came in clutch with a game changing safety. Final score
20-
25.
Our final story of the week begs the question are the London Royals in free fall? The UK based team came out swinging at the start of the season winning their first 3 games of the season taking a comfortable lead in the NFC standings. Since then they have only won one of their six games losing to every other team in the NFC. Their latest loss was particularly devastating as the Tijuana Luchadores shutout the Royals holding them to a lone field goal meanwhile the Luchadores backfield feasted as both Richard Gilbert and the player known as Running Back put up impressive performances. Both rushed more than 20 times, both had over 100 rushing yards, and both had 2 touchdowns apiece. Final Score
38-
3.
