Welcome everyone, to the Minnesota Grey Duck rookie spotlight. I'm your CB Matt Krause and all this week I'll be sitting down with the Rookies from my Minnesota Grey Ducks. Talking draft, football, life and everything in between. This week I have a kicking and punting specialist. The one and only Philip Stein.
Little background on our K/P. He's from the University of Maryland. He's made 33/34 XPs, 21/25 FGs with 57 his longest (BOMBS!) And 2/2 from 50+ and 8/9 from 40+. He don't miss.....much. He averaged a punt distance of 44 yards and his longest being 66.
Philip, how's it going? Sorry to bring you in just before our game. But what better way to ease the mind then reflecting on your season, our season and rookie life in the DSFL.
Thanks for having me. Yeah I'm feeling a lot of pressure going into my first playoff game. Hopefully this calms me down.
So first things first, I think you had a helluva year. Some pretty stellar numbers to put up for a rookie. Hows your overall feeling about it? Did you accomplish your personal goals? Did you fail any personal goals?
I definitely played well so I'm happy with that. I won 2 Game Balls and they have been the highlights of my career so far. I don't think that I'm going to win any individual awards which is a shame, unfortunately. However, we're in the playoffs and have a chance to win the Ultimini which is much more Important. I'm lucky enough to be in the best Locker Room in any sports league in the world and that's been an amazing experience.
Fantastic, I love the absolutely honesty I get from you guys sitting down and talking with me. Let's start off with recruitment. I know people have been talking about you. I know there's lots of potential for you to make a position switch as the most the big boys have a kicker in place. How has the recruitment been for you? Any interesting questions out there? If a NSFL team comes calling, what positions are you willing to switch to?
I'm definitely willing to switch to Linebacker. I think I'd fit well at that position. I'm definitely too small to play on either the Offensive or Defensive Line so I'm gonna pass on either of those. Any other position would be on a case by case basis. I know there is interest in playing me at Cornerback or Safety. I'd have to discuss that possibility with the GM of the team before I make that decision. I believe that I am an NSFL caliber Kicker but I realize that I need to put the team first and therefore I'm willing to switch positions to benefit the team.
Now, destinations, obviously, there's quite a few places you can land with your versatility and willingness to change positions. Your active in the LR, a good earner, where do you not want to go and why? Any specific place you'd love to go and why? I hear your real fond of Arizona! ????
First of all, Fuck Arizona, Fuck Zamir, and Fuck anyone who is friends with Zamir. He harasses people and if I was in charge of this league he would've been kicked out already. I'm willing to go anywhere else. I've had some teams reach out to me and If I had to guess I would say I'm going to New Orleans or Baltimore but I can honestly say that I'd be happy going anywhere that isn't Arizona. What's important for me in joining a team is that they have a good Locker Room and that they believe that I can become a Starter. I recognize that I may need time to become a Starter in the league but I know that I can reach that level.
Alright, so now the GMs have heard about your rookie performance, your recruitment and your destinations. They think highly of Minnesota to develop players. How do you feel Minnesota has helped develop you? Any specific veterans? GM or anyone who really helped you hit the ground running?
I got along with most people and if I forget to mention you then I'm sorry. The main people who helped me out FSF, Reaper, CC, Dwyer, CLG, Darkness, Tylus, and I saved the best for last Jamar Lackson. These guys haven't just been helpful in getting me used to being in the NSFL, but also were just great friends to me. As I said earlier, I'm very lucky to have been picked up by Minnesota and I wouldn't be as good as I am now without them.
Let's talk a little more about our team. Overall, what were your expectations coming into Minnesota for our team? You think we've gotten to were we should be? How did you feel about the locker room? Your fellow rookies? Your veterans? Anything you'd like to say to Jango to bury the hatchet?????
I was definitely not expecting the level of activity that there is here in Minnesota. There are always people up to having a conversation about anything and it's been great. I wasn't sure that we'd make the playoffs after we started 1-3, but once we beat Myrtle Beach to go 3-3 I knew we were playoff bound. I'm confident that we will win tonight but I know that Tijuana (assuming that they beat Norfolk) will be a difficult matchup. I know that we'll leave everything out on the field and hopefully that's enough to beat them. On the topic of Jango, Donald Trump has less of an Ego than Jango does. He is more self-centered than anyone I've met in a long long time. He's not as bad as Zamir because he keeps it in the Locker Room but if I do end up on his team, (whatever team that is) I'm definitely ignoring him. I tried tolerating him but eventually it was too much so I've ignored him in Minnesota just like I would wherever I'm drafted.
Alright, alright. That's enough about us. But I always love to finish these with a good few questions about Minnesota. And finally I leave the spotlight to you Philip, what do you want everyone to know? All the GMs are reading, the fans, the media. Your time to voice whatever you want, let's hear it!
I've definitely had problems with a couple people but I'm a selfless, active, laid back guy and as long as there are no assholes in the Locker Room I'll get along with them just fine. I can guarantee that I'll play LB or K/P and if you want to play me somewhere else feel free to message me and we can talk. I'm always happy to talk to fans, media, GMs, or anyone else. I want to play on one team my entire career. When I retire I don't want them to just say I was a good player, I want them to say I was a good Locker Room guy and a good man.
Thank you to my wonderful rookie teammates who came on the show this small break between regular season and the playoffs. You guys have been absolutely stellar on and off the field. And all of you are going to shine bright in the NSFL. And thank you everyone who read these things. They may not be everything you're looking for but it gives our rookies a chance to let everyone know who they are and eventually could be your teammates. Goodnight everyone and look forward to this next year with a whole new class of rookies!
