The young moon elf,or Teu-tel-quessir, Caina was born in the capital of Evermeet, Leuthilspar. As her family fled the city as outcasts, Caina learned to fight on the streets in her new adoptive home of Waterdeep. As she fought her way through throngs of young boys and girls, all desiring victory, Caina was who came out on top. While relishing in her victory one evening, a local crime lord came to her and invited her to join the great fighting pits of Waterdeep. Ever thristful for blood, Caina happily accepted and quickly became the next fighter of the night. In what was surely a rigged fight against her, Caina achieved a hard won victory, and as the underdog of the fighting pits earned a great deal of admiration and respect.
As Caina worked to win more and more fights, she grew in her confidence, and her coin purse. Consistently betting on herself, combined with the fight's winnings, Caina grew secretly rich in this underground world. Wanting to provide for the elves, especially dark elves, who had also been outcast from their homes, Caina spent her early mornings returning gold and silver pieces to those who were in more need than herself. A secret hero to the people on the streets, Caina continued to live as the secret hero among them.

A Circle of the Arctic Druid, Adelie spent his life looking for one thing, and one thing only: his penguin brethren. Spending the majority of his life near the Sea of Moving Ice, Adelie sought to find the myth behind the penguins. While he learned to understand nature and some of its great mysteries, the biggest mystery of all would continue to push Adelie for years to come.
Finding a waddle of penguins on the ice, Adelie looked for ways to communicate with these wonderful creatures. While he has gained much knowledge during his time near the Sea of Moving Ice, Adelie is not yet ready to share his newfound wisdom with the rest of the Gold Coast.

Bjorn big Orc. Bjorn big smash. Bjorn need no armor. Bjorn carry lots. Bjorn kill lots. Bjorn do what Bjorn do.
Prologue: A Trio Meets:
It seemed unlikely that these three heroes would find each other. While Bjorn and Adelie had known one another for quite awhile (Adelie needed protection once, in the Sea of Moving Ice, and Bjorn was more than happy to join the Aarakocra to kill anything that may need killing), Caina was still the outsider to the group. Meeting Bjorn near the tavern alley one evening after fighting in the pits, Caina was still hot headed and ready for some bloodletting. Bjorn, ever insistent on beating up anything that looked in his direction the wrong way, felt happy to oblige. While Adelie chattered with his penguin companion, Bjorn and Caina spend half the evening in an ever tiring brawl.
Eventually, recognizing that the other would not quit, and was an equally talented fighter, Bjorn and Caina called it a tie. At this point, Adelie reached out his wing and invited the Moon Elf on a journey that would change all of their lives.
Reality Part One:
Stretching back in her chair, Daria looked around the table at Adelie and Bjorn. New to the Norfolk team, Adelie had been one of the most welcoming members that she had met. While it was difficult to understand how an adelie penguin was so large and Bjorn understood him, she had made the relationship work. Being able to interact with the legend that was Bjorn Ironside was an opportunity that she needed to take advantage of. When Bjorn suggested that she join them in a game of Dungeons and Dragons, Daria was more than willing to accept.
“So, I think that’s everything for our character creation. We’ve got character sheets, classes, Adelie did you bring the dice?” In response, the penguin dropped a bag filled with a variety of dice on the table. “Excellent. We’ve got snacks, backgrounds, and we figured out how all of our characters know each other. Next steps, to start the campaign.”
Relishing in the fact that they didn’t actually need a Dungeon Master with this new Dungeons and Dragons software that had been released, you just needed to input character information and party size, and it would create a campaign for you, complete with dice rolls, random encounters, and NPC interactions. The Artificial Intelligence in charge of the software was even progressive enough to handle the complicated and unique nature of humans (and penguins), as well as provided inspiration and bonuses based on creativity and desperation.
“And, we have represented every country worth representing with our food choices for tonight. We dine like Kings!” Bjorn spread his hands out at the feast that lay on the island countertops. Daria wasn’t sure how the three of them would manage to eat so much food, but she was thankful for choices and variety. “Be careful of that,” Bjorn said, pointing to a jug filled with liquid. “That is for Adelie only. You would not do well to drink it.”
Giving Bjorn a look of concern and confusion, Daria grabbed a plate of food and made her way back to the table. One positive about playing at the house of a former NSFL legend, he had the coolest technology. The gaming table that Bjorn had created featured a three dimensional display of their character models, map grid, and scenery. It was an impressive display. Sat sunken into the table, there was a lip which allowed for a separation of beverages and food, from the rest of the gaming field. Starting with one of the tacos, Bjorn slapped her on the back as he returned to the table, “Tacos are an excellent choice. It is why I ordered double.” Grinning at Daria, he sat down across from her and dove into the food that was on his plate.
Adelie sat in between them and began a combination of eating fish and drinking Bjorn’s ‘special drink’ that had been mixed up. Daria figured she knew better than to ask.
“Well?” she said, after swallowing another bite of tacos. “Should we get started?”
With a nod from both Adelie and Bjorn, Daria smiled. “Begin the scenario, Dungeon Master.”
“Scenario Starting. Players include Adelie, Bjorn, Daria. Adjusting level for three player character party.”
With a few boops and whizzles, the table in front of them loaded up with the city of Waterdeep, and the world of the Gold Coast laid out in front of them.
Chapter One: The Beginning of a Quest:
Bjorn clapped Caina on the back “Fight good,” he said. Caina stumbled forward slightly from the fOrce of impact and smiled at the Orc behind her.
“Thank you, you fought well, too,” she replied, grinning.
“Are you done yet?” Adelie said, tossing another fish to his pet penguin. Caina wasn’t sure how the penguin felt being so far away from the frozen lands, but she knew that the Druid was able to get him more than happy.
“Always fight,” Bjorn said.
Adelie grunted and began walking toward the entrance of the alley. While Caina and Bjorn burned off excess energy sparring, he was the one plotting their next moves as a group. Adelie had spent a large amount of his time in the Sea of Broken Ice, and while there, he had uncovered a great mystery of the penguins that lived in this land. Wanting to investigate further, he continued to enlist the support of his now friend Bjorn, and after a back alley brawl, Caina too.
“Yes, I know you always fight, but are you done for now,” Adelie responded. “I’d like to get going. We’re supposed to meet an informant at the Bowels of the Earth tavern soon. I’ll go by myself if I have to, but I’d rather not have to.”
“Go. Lead way,” Bjorn said, picking up his great axe, he swung it easily between his hands.
Caina picked up her gear from near the wooden box that Adelie was sitting on, and the three companions set off toward the Bowels of the Earth.
As they entered the tavern, it was busy and the sound of drunk men and women filled the air. The clinking of coins made Bjorn look toward one end of the tavern, where several men were engaged in arm wrestling competitions. “Not today, buddy,” said Adelie. “We’re here on a job, so that means focus, not fight.”
“But Bjorn strong!” the Orc whimpered.
Caina patted him gently on the arm, “I know buddy, Bjorn is strong. It’ll be okay. I’ll buy you a drink.”
“Beer is good too,” he said with a smile. Waving her hand at the bartender, Caina signaled for the purchase of two beers, and the two sat at a table behind Adelie. Listening, watching, but also out of the way.
As they chatted, Adelie’s informant appeared, sitting down at the table. Caina wasn’t exactly sure what conversation took place between them. She was mostly focused on his external safety, and keeping the giant Orc from escalating into a raging mess. After having another two beers, she noticed Adelie rise from the table, and nodded her head in his direction. “They’re done, Bjorn. Time to go.”
“Arm wrestle?” he asked hopeful.
“Considering Adelie is almost gone, I don’t think so buddy.”
-
“Removing 18 copper pieces from your character sheet, Caina.”
Bjorn laughed from the kitchen and returned to the table with yet another plate of food. They hadn’t even been playing for a half an hour, and he was already on his third plate of the evening. She wasn’t sure how he kept in shape after his NSFL career ending injury, but she was quickly realizing that he could put away the calories. He set a cold glass in front of Daria, and before she could say anything, “It is root beer, little one. I know you are young.”
Blushing, Daria smiled at him, “Oh, thanks.” She took a drink of the frosty root beer and made a note on her character sheet about the money she had remaining.”
“Bjorn is an expensive Orc. I think I’m going to run out of money plying him with alcoholic beverages in this game.”
“That’s okay,” he said. “You can always borrow money from Adelie. He is more than willing to pay for Bjorn.” Bjorn grinned as he shoved my tacos toward his face. The giant former defensive tackle still intimidated Daria, but she realized he seemed a bit more bark than bite. Maybe he was only scary if you were the enemy quarterback.
“I really love this immersive Dungeon Master software, Bjorn. It’s kind of cool not knowing what Adelie’s hidden knowledge is. It definitely makes the game better when it can be a surprise to all of us.”
“This is true. Are you ready to fight more, little one?”
Nodding, Daria turned her attention back to the game board in front of her.
-
The three companions continued down the road in Waterdeep, following the lead of Adelie. “Where to, boss?” Caina asked, readying herself for an adventure.
“The library. My informant wasn’t very informing, but he did indicate that there might be some books that would interest me in the Great Library. We’ll be making our way to the Castle Ward, and hope that they let us in.”
“Oh goodie, bards,” Caina said, as she jumped upon the boxes that lined the sides of the road. She allowed herself to balance among the variety of footwork. “Maybe they can sing Bjorn a song,” she said, jumping down back onto the road, and patting the large Orc on the back.
“LA LA LA,” Bjorn sang, incredibly out of tune. Both Adelie and Caina put their hands to their ears.
“That’s enough, big guy, leave the singing to the bards.”
The trio continued down the road, heading north toward the Castle Ward. “We’ll take Warrior’s Way, even if it isn’t the closest. I’d rather not head near the guard’s barracks at the moment.” Looking from Caina to the Orc, Adelie took a deep breath and nodded once, agreeing with his decision.
As they passed the silks shop, Caina stared longingly at the flowing fabrics. A quick jog to catch up with the Aarakocra and the Orc led her near the Golden Horn gambling house. The sounds of coins clinking made the Orc stall this time, and Caina grabbed his arm, attempting to drag him forward. “Let’s go, big guy.”
Filled with more high end shops as they made their way down Warrior’s Way, the trio were able to blend a little bit more with the busy street. While it seemed as though their trek to the Font of Knowledge would be uneventful, Caina tried to maintain an active presence around them. Suddenly ahead of them, a large troop of city guards seemed to be making their way down the street. “Merde,” said the Aarakocra and he quickly ducked down a side street. “We’ll cut over to the Street of Silver,” he said quietly.
Following, they made their way through the side streets and houses, finding themselves in a darkened road - The Prowl, said the sign. “I’m not sure I like this, Adelie. Let’s get back to the main road quickly, please.”
“It’s this or the guard, and you know how they feel about Orcs. I’d rather not waste half the day questioning whether or not Bjorn should be here with us.”
Bjorn frowned, hearing his name, and the group pressed on, Bjorn leading the way. Adelie, safely in the middle of his two guards, seemed unaware of what actual dangers may pose in the area. Caina split her time walking facing forward and backward, in an attempt to keep her eyes everywhere.
“Give us your gold pieces, and we won’t pluck the bird’s feathers,” she heard the voice behind her say.
Bjorn growled slightly, and Caina quickly looked at the Orc, “Easy big guy,” she said, attempting to stop before he got into a rage.
Caina pulled her both her rapier and scimitar out, and dropped them to the street. “I’ll give you more than enough gems to make you happy,” she said. “You just need to take the knife away from the Aarakorca’s neck, or no deal.”
She saw the momentary hesitation in the eyes of the mugger.
-
“Persuasion check required,” the computer said.
Daria rolled the D20 onto the table. As it settled, it landed with a 20 facing up. “Yes!” Daria said, pumping her fist in the air. Adelie gakkered in response. “Dungeon Master, I rolled a 20.”
“Critical success.”
-
The mugger dropped the knife to the ground, and fell to his knees. “I’m sorry.” Sobbing, he held his head in his hands. “I’m so sorry. My family is just hungry. I just needed some money for food. Please don’t call the guard, please.”
Adelie was already at the other end of the street. “Look, we’re not going to say anything, but you should be a little bit more careful about who you try to rob. Go near the fighting pits at the end of the day. You’ll find what you need for your family there.” Tossing a gold coin to the kid, Caina continued on after her companions.
“You shouldn’t give them money, you know,” Adelie said as Caina finally caught up. “He’s not going to learn anything.”
Scoffing as they exited the side street, Caina shook her head. “I’m not going to stop just because you think that it’ll lead to more crime. I’ve noticed a lot of positive things happening in the slums. You don’t have to donate to them, but I’ll keep on doing it.”
“And yet you complain about the Orc’s beer money,” he said in response.
Bjorn looked back at Caina and smiled sheepishly. Rolling her eyes, Caina continued in silence as they made their way closer to the market square. It meant they were almost at the Font of Knowledge. It shouldn’t be an issue to enter and view the books in the library, but with Bjorn, sometimes, it made things complicated. Not everyone was as accepting of Orcs in the city as they should be.
Seeing the fresh fruits and vegetables that were offered in the market square made Caina want to stop and purchase something. She stared longingly at the fruit stands as they walked passed. She sighed and turned attention back to Adelie. She wouldn’t get paid if she let the boss die, so it was probably important to keep him alive.
The musty smell of old books hit her within the first few steps into the library. It was almost stifling, after having spent so much time in the fighting pits to be inside this much. Adelie quietly spoke with one of the bards who began to direct him toward some volumes that he might be interested in. Bjorn took up a position closer to Adelie, holding a torch to assist him as he read. There weren’t many things outside of fighting that the Orc was good for, but assisting in the library was surprisingly one of them. He could stand and hold the light for ages.
Caina sat at a table a bit further away and attempted to keep watch from further away. She hoped that she would be able to spot anything nefarious before it became an issue. Her eyes flicked toward the druid and then back around the library. Feeling confident that nobody would know they were in the library, let alone be willing to attack Adelie, Caina grabbed a book and began flipping through it - some ancient tome on the change of fighting techniques over time in the region around Waterdeep. It felt like something that would be interesting and engaging for Caina, without sucking her in too much.
She was incredibly wrong on that front. Within a few minutes, Caina felt her eyes grow heavy and begin to droop. Her head was already resting in her hand, elbow on the table, and it made it very easy to continue to give in to the feeling of her eyes closing.
“CAINA,” the orc suddenly bellowed. Realizing that she was late to the party, Caina quickly jumped up and readied her weapon.
-
“God, I suck at rolling initiative,” Daria said, looking at her roll. Bjorn let out a small laugh and rolled his die too. As the group started to think about their initiative order, they input their rolls into the computerized system. After a moment, they were ready to proceed.
“Initiative order: Bjorn, Adelie, Enemy, Enemy, Caina.”
-
Caina ran toward the Orc, her weapon out in front of her. Quickly closing the gap between her friends and the enemy, she found herself working through how to defend Adelie. Reaching one of the cloaked figures, Caina looked to engage from behind while Bjorn continued to fight off both of them. Adelie sat, his back to the wall as he continued to spout words, trying to summon the strength for some spell to be cast in their benefit.
As she reached the back of the cloaked figure, she put her scimitar to his neck. “Stop hurting my buddy, and I won’t kill you.” Keeping the sword against the neck of her enemy, Caina had neglected to look up at the Orc that was in front of her. His body almost seemed to be glowing. “You don’t have long to decide about this pal, you’re about to ge-.” Before she could finish her sentence, the Orc shoved himself toward the man in front of Caina, and grabbed his chest. With a quick yank forward the man fell against the sword in front of him. “Damn it Bjorn!” she shouted, pulling the scimitar back. She quickly reached down and bent to wipe her sword with the robes of the man in front of her.
Bjorn continued to play with the other cultist, holding him in his other hand. He lifted him into the air and then his arm quickly went toward the ground. With a scream, the man’s legs crumbled beneath him. “Did you just,” Caina started, looking at the man on the floor. The cultist had turned his head toward his now deceased comrade and he let out another scream.
“Stop, stop, I will tell you whatever you want to know!” he pleaded, looking quickly from Caina to the Orc.
Bjorn lifted his hands again, ready to smash his skull between them. Caina knew better than to try and get between the raging barbarian and his prey. “Bjorn,” said a voice behind them. “If you smash his small head and get brains over the entirety of the library, the bards will surely not be pleased. I’d rather not have to plead my case for why I should be allowed to do research here.”
The Orc let out a grumble of dissent. “Want to smash.”
Caina carefully stepped over the body in front of her and patted Bjorn’s arm. “I know buddy. I’ll find something else that you can smash later. Maybe we can spare after the bookworm does his research. For now, it’s time to go back to our breathing exercises, remember?”
“In one. Out two,” the large Orc said, looking at Caina for approval.
“That’s it buddy. Look, we’ll have to clean this up, and maybe we can find a quiet place to talk to our new friend here after Adelie finishes reading all of the books. Does that sound good?” Bjorn nodded, and Caina smiled, looking at the wreckage in front of her.
-
“Well, that was a productive night. Good job, little ones,” Bjorn said, looking at Daria and Adelie. The penguin squawked in response and Daria chuffed slightly at the praise.
“It was a lot of fun, honestly. Thank you for inviting me Bjorn. I’m hoping that we can do this again sometime. Maybe after the first week of games?”
“Yes, yes. It will be my honor. We may need to order more food for next time,” he replied, gesturing to the empty platters and bowls that lay on the island countertop. She was doubtful that they would have been able to eat all of the food that was there, but clearly Daria underestimated the great Bjorn Ironside. With a smile, she headed toward the front door. Daria grabbed her coat and tied her shoes before heading out of the door, returning home to prep for their first game of the season. Recognizing that this was going to be a good way to relax during the season, Daria sure hoped that it would continue.
