Welcome back all!
Rich Triplet here again to talk about some more fellow S25 prospects, I really enjoyed writing about the safeties, so I figured I would keep it going on the defensive side of the ball. Keep in mind these articles apply only to those who declared in the off season, hence why players that have already been picked up on waivers are not included on this list. Defensive tackles are what we are looking at today and while the pool is small, there are some absolute studs that can reinforce any defensive line. I want to remind all that the rankings I have put together are based on film, performances at their individual workouts, along with their activity in the league thus far. I do not plan on playing in the trenches anytime soon, but I love those big guys because they make my life way easier. I will not waste any more time here so let us get into it.
Honorable Mention
Booker Bookchin, Vancouver, Interior Rusher, TPE earned: 7
What an unfortunate turn of events for Mr. Bookchin, declares he will leave Vancouver to try his hand at the ISFL and one week later ends up with a spinal injury that could leave him paralyzed if he attempted to play the game again. He had solid speed for his position, it sucks we may never see it again. I wish the best of luck to him in whatever he decides to pursue next.
Those who (seemed) to stop caring
These are recruits that as far as I can tell have lost all interest in pursuing their ISFL dreams, they may come back to the process at another time but as of this article they have shown that they’ll end up on a team this season but might not make it any father.
8). Hunter Mantis, Temple University, Interior Rusher, TPE earned: 0 (no update page)
Of the lower ranked defensive tackles on this list, one thing separated Hunter from the rest. Speed, at 300 pounds I have seen Hunter move like some of the faster LBs in the draft. However, what Hunter brings in speed he lacks in many other places. For a 300-pound tackle he lacks strength and can be sloppy in his footwork. He is another player that seems to have stopped caring about the draft in general. If he comes back, I am sure many GMs would love a man of this size with this speed.
7). LeDavious “Dave” Davis, James Madison University, Run Stuffer TPE earned: 0 (no update page)
There is not much to say about Davis, a strong guy he was great at plugging up holes at James Madison but not much else. Slow on his feet but strong in his arms it was evident he skipped leg day. It is a shame too as he is one of the stronger DTs in the class. I hope that Davis finds the joy he once found in football in whatever he finds next in life. It seems that he has lost the spark that kept him going soon after declaring for the draft.
6). Joey JoJo Junior Shabadoo, Texas, Interior Rusher TPE earned: 2
Shabadoo may have the best name on this list, try saying it out loud it is a great time. However, that might be the only thing he has going for him. Another prospect that has a solid framework of strength to work with but just appears not to care about the draft at all. I do hope he gets back to work and can become a solid player in the league, I mainly just want a reason to shout SHABADOOOOOO!
5). Bonifacius Van Den Huevel, Washington, Run Stuffer TPE earned: 7
Another player with a fun name! I notice a lot of these defensive tackles have names that are fun to say and I just love it! I will tell you what else I love is the strength of this unit. One of the stronger prospects, Huevel has shown he does not shy away from contact. Another player that is slow on his feet and does not bring great tackling form, he can plug up a gap or two due to his size but is going to have to rely on other players making the stop. If he can bring himself to get back to the draft process, he has a good head start on many other prospects in that regard.
The Big 4
These four prospects are all very close to one another in terms of performance and what I think they can bring at the next level. They are very tough to rank against one another, but I will try my best! I am very excited to see where they go in the DSFL draft and what impacts they can make in the league.
4). Angelo Cerilli, Daytona, Interior Rusher TPE earned: 56 (all banked)
Angelo is interesting because as it stands, according to his numbers he should be no better than those below him. However, Angelo has potential written all over him, he feels like a prospect that o matter where he goes can fill the need they want of him. Need an interior speed rusher to chase down QBs, he can do that. Need a THICC boy to stop the run? He can do that too; I am very interested to see where he goes and what he becomes after this draft.
3). Honky-Tonk Haywood, University of Tennessee, Interior Rusher TPE earned: 56
A monster in his own right, the honks you will be hearing is of a freight train as this monster runs down opposing quarterbacks. Boasting great speed, strength and name Honky-Tonk is looking more ready the closer we get to the draft. He has some footwork issues to work on, but technique can be learned as he plays. I am excited for this kid to show out.
2). Sheed Thebaw, Wisconsin, Interior Rusher TPE earned: 58
It was tough to rank Sheed and Haywood, I continued to go back and forth between the two to see who got second place on this list. In the end Sheed ended up with a higher 40 time at his private workout and that has earned him the nod. “The Unblockable Situation” is the name he has been given and lineman throughout the BIG-10 can attest to that. Despite playing lineman the guy ended up with a pick in college and was an absolute monster rushing from the interior. Ending up with almost 40 sacks in three years is why I rank him so high.
1). Vance Slattery, University of Minnesota, Nose Tackle, TPE earned: 76
There is one prospect that stands above the rest and that is Vance Slattery. This unit plugged holes at Minnesota for the past few years and looks to continue to do so in the DSFL. The far and away strongest defensive tackle in the group Vance has also been working on his speed and footwork leading to up to the DSFL draft. I am very excited to see where this kid goes and what he can do at the next level.
That is all I have for defensive tackles; I would not be surprised to see a run on them rather quickly in the DSFL draft due to the limited availability of them. There are also some that saw some playtime last year, such as GOAT TANK, that can go even higher than I rate these guys. I try my best to rate these guys as fairly as I can and I am not saying these will all be spot on, but I do want to hear from you guys. What do you think about my predictions and rankings?
