*Around the ISFL- S24 offseason transactions

S23 offseason had came and is now almost over, with both ISFL and DSFL drafts being done and preseason stream aired today. And that means (for me, at least) it's time to reminisce upon all the trades, free agent moves and callups happened in this offseason continuing with my seasonal offseason transaction series. This offseason saw a lot more buzz in free agency and trades, with several big names changing uniforms, while the number of callups weren't necessarily huge, especially compared to callup numbers of S22 and S23 offseason. All in all, it was surely an interesting offseason to recap!

Before we start
First, I want to thank whomever thought of and organized the callup list in DSFL GM chat. Not only that list made my life as a DSFL GM much easier, it also helped me save a lot of time and effort that I usually had to invest in this series as I no longer had to rummage through TPE tracker, budget page and even the sim file in order to manually compile the approximate callup list myself (and there were a lot of errors even after that, too)

Speaking of errors, please feel free to comment and let me know if I made a mistake or didn't include anyone in FA/callup/trade. I tried my best to include everything, but I know there's always a chance that I miss somwone especially in callup department.

Finally, I would like to clarify some classifications that I will use in this article. For retirements, there are two categories as you all know. A player is removed from sim if they retire before ultimus, and they play one last season as a psuedo IA player if they post their retirement notice after ultimus. To differciate the two types, I will be putting an asterisk(*) beside post ultimus retirements, as well as employing some difference in words for further clarification. Here are some examples for that.

In this case, player A is pre ultimus retirement and therefore removed from the sim, while player B announced their retirement after ultimus and will remain in the sim for one more season. And now that I got through all the things I had in mind, let's get to the main stuff!


 Yellowknife Wraiths   

• OL Laszlo Forty- two announced retirement*

The Wraiths saw a wave of retirement after their ultimus win in S23 much like what the Yeti had experienced after their win in S22, but in a bigger scale. Their longtime quarterback Cooter Bigsby retired, and his gap will be filled with Colby Jack, who had been patiently waiting his time with the London Royals in DSFL. Their wide recriver corps, which comprised of five players, got dismantled overnight by Jackson, Hardagain retiring, Rodriguez leaving in free agency for the Butchers, and Nate Swift being traded to the Sabercats, leaving second year receiver Mike Lee as the only one standing active from the Ultimus winning wide receiver corps. The Wraiths had called up Susan Cash Jr and tight end Zee Rechs- both S22 players- to help their rookie quarterback out in passing game. Also, offensive lineman Laszlo Forty- two had announced that S24 will be his last season, so the Wraiths will have to make some move to ensure their young QB is protected to the future.

 Austin Copperheads   

• S Takeda Okura announced retirement*
  
• RB Mako Mendonca announced retirement*

• Traded S25 5th, 8th round picks to the Outlaws for RB Sergio Kitchens
  
• Called up WR Videl- San, CB Tomage McGullager and LB Griffin Porter from the DSFL
  

The Copperheads won't be losing any players this season, as all Okura, Mendonca and Tidwell announced their retirements after the ultimus. However, plans will be needed as all three played a big role in their respective positions and will be gone at the end of S24. Their callups give a nuance that the plan is up and going. First, the Copperheads called up wide receiver Videl- San, who will most likely be the long term replacement for Rod Tidwell and play as a slot/ tight end for this season. Cornerback Tomage McGullager, while a little low on TPE levels, will likely be filling in Okura's spot in the defensive backfield. The final callup, linebacker Griffin Porter, had been called up in order to give some more depth to the linebacker corps, with only two players being there before and one of them- S17 player Honda Edmond- now in first season of regression.

 Orange County Otters 

• WR Hugh Mongo announced retirement*
  
• Traded DT Big Edd and S25 5th round pick to the Sailfish for DE Steco Ocewilder and S23 3rd round pick

• Called up WR Garfield Despacito Jr, DT Carl Wheezer, RB Keynel McZeal and S Bob Bob from the DSFL
  

Otterw whowed some moves in the offseason, participating in both the free agency and trades actively. As a result, they managed to snag Quarterback Suleiman Ramza, who had tested free agency for more playing time and received high attentions from multiple teams. Ramza is a good fit for the Otters as their current quarternack Franklin Armstrong is aging and Ramza will be able to get the starting gig in a few seasons, minimalizing the performance dip(usually caused by young quarterbacks) for the team. Also, they traded S22 DT Big Edd to the Sailfish for S18 DE Steco Oceeilder, while exchanging their S25 5th rounder with Sailfish's S25 3rd rounder. This happened as the Otters needed some help in defensive end position, while they had Carl Wheezer- who was called up after the trade- down in the DSFL to fill the spot even if Edd is gone. On the other side, veteran wide receiver Hugh Mongo announced retirement, and Garfield Despacito Jr had been called up from the DSFL to serve as a long term replacement of him and be WR3 for this upcoming season. The Otters also called uo running back Keynel McZeal to be RB2 to Tatsu Nakamura, as former RB2 Ludicolo Bigby is now gone. Finally, they called up safety Bob Bob in order to add some more depth and flexibility to defensive backfield.


 Colorado Yeti

• Traded DT Yuuto Kira Cloudera to the Sabercats for S24 2nd round pick

The Yeti had a very busy offseason, especially applying a lot of changes to their linebacker corps. Mo Berry, the long time centerpiece of Yeti defence, had retired. That made a big hole in the position along with fellow linebacker Tony Gabagool announcing his retirement after ultimus. So that lead to the Yeti scrambling and snagging two high profile free agent linebackers in Warren Stephens and Adélie de Pengu. Stephens and Pengu will man the newly refitted linebacker corps alongside Gabagool playing his last season. Another move by the Yeti was made when they traded away defensive tackle Yuuto Kira Cloudera to the Sabercats during the S24 ISFL draft. This move was made mainly to give Cloudera more playing timex as he was not expected to get a lot of them in young and strong defensive line of Yeti. However, the Yeti managed to also get a good value out of Cloudera in a second round pick, and selected safety Joel Drake with the pick. Te Yeti also called up S22 WR Leeroy Jenkins to form a formidable troica with already strong combo of William Lim and Jackson kingston, and called up safety Greedy Sly- first overall pick in S23 draft- to add on to defensive flexibility.

 New Orleans Second Line

• DE Brave Ulysses announced retirement*

• Called up QB Ben Slothlisberger and WRs Brock Brodenhamer and Sean Snyder from the DSFL

The biggest news for Second Line this offseason was retirement of their long time quarterback Stan Fransisco. That spot will be filled in by Ben Slothlisberger, who had been patiently waiting his turn in DSFL ever since he was selected by the Second Line in the second round of S22 ISFL draft. The Second line also made some adjustments to their wide receiver corps as they cut Blake Alexander- who had long been inactive with only 198 TPE to his name- and adding Sean Snyder and Brock brodenheimer to be additional weapon alongside Ed Barker to help their rookie quarterback.
Also on the defensive side of the ball, both the second line's defensive ends- Ulyssess and Tu' inukuafe- had announced retirements after this season. So while they will stay on thebroster while they play out their last season, there will be a massive gap in the position come by offseason after S24. The Second Line also acquired cornerback Jordan Andrews from the Sailfish for a 5thvround pick next draft, which will add on to depth and flexibility in defense.

 Philadelphia Liberty 

• DE Ilove Gimmy retired
  
• LB Warren Stephens left in free agency
  
• QB Suleiman Ramza left in free agency
  
• Called up LB Jeremiah Zelos, DE Dorothy Zbornak and K/P Karmichael Hunt from the DSFL
  

The Liberty saw some losses -especially in the defensive side- in the midst of having a quiet offseason without any outside acquisitions. First, defensive end Ilove Gimmy retired, again weakning the defensive line. And linebacker Warren Stephens left for the Yeti in free agency, leaving Spike Suzuki as the only active linebacker on Liberty roster. To compensate with that, the Liberty called up two S24 rookies- quite a rare occurence in these days- in order to fill up the gap. First, they called up their forst round pick, defensive end Dorothy Zbornak, to fill Gimmy's old spot. And then, they position changed second round pick Jeremiah Zelos from RB to LB, and then called him up to alleviate the need in linebacker corps. On the offebsive side of the ball, the Liberty saw the departure of senddown quarterback Suleiman Ramza to the Otters, but no moves are being made for the time being as current starter Brock Phoenix is still quite young. Finally, the Liberty called up kicker Carmichael hunt to replace their old kicker Lefty Louis.

 Arizona Outlaws 

• WR Jah Bur' Berry announced retirement*
  
• RB Baby Yoda left in free agency
  
• Called up RBs Joseph Petrongolo and Zed Keppler, Safeties DB Jadakiss and Benoit Blanco and OL Julio Jones from the DSFL 
  

The Outlaws also had  a quiet offseason wothout any outside acquisitions. However, they suffered on major loss in free agency, which was departure of running back Baby Yoda who left the team for the Butchers, leaving a gaping hole in running back position. To fill that hole, the Outlaws called up two running backs- Petrongolo and Keppler- to fill in as a running back by committee approach. On wide receiver department, WR2 Jah Bur' Berry announced retirement, but no moves were made by the Outlaws as S22 player Thomas Passmann will naturally fill in as WR2, and eventually WR1 as Saba Donut regresses firther. The Outlaws also called up offensive lineman Julio Jones, increasing their tally of human offenses linemen to three, which is the most among all teams. On the defensive side, the Outlaws called up two safeties in DB Jadakiss and Benoit Blanco in order to amend the gap left by Quinn Hughes and Tyler Oles Jr leaving, the former by retirement last offseason and the other leaving in free agency the same timeframe. Those two will add on to the Outlaws' already young defensive backfield.

 Baltimore Hawks 

• RB Apollo Reed retired
  
• Signed DE Arik Eller in free agency
  
• Called up RB Mai Fukushū, CB Lesean Paris Crooks and K/P Datsum PhastBawls from the DSFL
  

The Hawks saw the retirement of their long time running back Apollo Reed. While the RB1 spot is secure with Darrel Williams just entering his prime years of production, the Hawks called up S24 rookie running back Mai Fukushū from the DSFL in order to follow the league trend of backfield by committee strategies. On the defensive side of the ball, the Hawks signed former Chicago senddown defensive end Arik Eller and immediately called him up. This move was done in order to strengthen their relatively weak defensive line. Also on the defensive side, the Hawks called up cornerback Lesean Paris Crooks. This was done in order to have five defensive backs in the roster, which gives flexibility and depth in defensive scheming. Amd Finally, they called up kicker Datsum PhastBawls in order to replace their old kicker For Thebrand who was deep in regression.

 Sarasota Sailfish 

• Traded CB Jordan Andrews to Second Line for S25 5th round pick
  
• Traded DE Steco Ocewilder and S25 3rd round pick to the Otters for DT Big Edd and S25 3rd round pick
  

Sailfish didn't made many moves apart from a couple of trades this offseason, as they had no free agent acquisitions and no DSFL callup, the latter of which is quite uncommon in this league. For the two trades, the Sailfish first traded their cornerback Jordan Andrews to the Second line for a fofth round pick in next season's draft. My guess on this trade was that the Sailfish wanted to stock up in next draft, which features a deep reddit class. And they had plenty defensive backs in the roster and Andrews was in regression, so they sent him to the Second Line for a good value of 5th round pick which will most likely be an active player next season. And then, they traded for defensive tackle Big Edd from the Otters for defensive end Steco Ocewilder. This trade was more of a mutual win- win for both teams as Sailfish only had one defensive tackle while the Otters had only one defensive end. But still the Sailfish managed to get Edd, a young player and a user with great locker room presence, with fair price of Ocewilder along with a swap of 3rd and 5th round picks.

 San Jose Sabercats 

• Traded S24 2nd round pick to the Yeti for DT Yuuto Kira Cloudera 
  
• Traded S25 4th round pick to the Wraiths for WR Nate Swift
  
• Called up DT Yuuto Kira Cloudera and S Phillip Stein from the DSFL
  

Similar to the Sailfish, the Sabercats were involved in two trades this offseason. Frist, they acquired defensive takcle Yuuto Kira Cloudera during the S24 ISFL draft when they sent a second round pick for him. The Addition of Cloudera will give the Sabercats a full human defensive line, and will mean more playing time for Cloudera as he will be a full time starter, something he was not guarentee with the Yeti. Also, the Sabercats acquired veteran receiver Nate Swift from the Wraiths for a relatively low price of a 4th round pick in the next draft. Swift, who didn't have much receptions under 5- men wide receiver corps with the Wraiths, will comtinue to challenge the all time yards record as the WR3 for the Sabercats. The Sabercats also called up Philip Stein, who had changed position from kicker after he was drafted by the team. Stein will fill in for Chester Sweets, who fell inactive despite being a high pick in S22 ISFL draft.


 Honolulu Hahalua 

• QB Corvo Havran retired
  
• Traded WR Daymond Brooks and S25 3rd round pick to the Butchers for S25 2nd round pick
  
• Called up QB Luke Skywalker, RB Nicholas Ayers, CBs Bane Ka' anā' anā and Ray- Ray Jackson, and DE Asher Montain
  

Biggest change for Honolulu this offseasonbwas the retirement of quarterback Corvo Havran, who had been their franchise quarterback right from the start of the franchise. Havran's old spot will be filled by Luke Skywalker- yet another member of massive S22 quarterback class- who was waiting for his turn in DSFL's Norfolk Seawolves. The Hahalua also traded away wide receiver Daymond Brooks along with next draft's third round pick to the Butchers, getting a second rounder in return. I suspect this move was more of a player oriented move, as there were no room for Brooks in Hahalua wide receiver corps comprising of Clay, Alexander and Podolak, all young players. Hahalua also called up Nicholas Ayers in order to continue with the trand of backfield by committee approach.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Hahalua called up two cornerbacks in Ka' anā' anā amd Jackson. This was mainly in order to secure five active defensive backs in the roster as per the league trend, especially as one of their current defensive backs, Victor Moreno, has been long inactive and only got a relatively lower TPE level of 328. Also, the Hahalua called up S24 rookie defensive end Asher Montain, who they pick with the third overall pick in the draft. Montain will be an immediate help to Hahalua defensive line, which is in need of active and fast earning player. 

 Chicago Butchers 

• RB Farley Hank retired
  
• Signed RB Baby Yoda in free agency
  
• Signed WR Bender B. Rodriguez in free agency
  
• DE Arik Eller left in free agency
  
• Traded S25 2nd round pick for WR Daymond Brooks and S25 3rd round pick
  
• Called up WR Luca Scabbia from the DSFL
  

The Butchers had a busiest offseason among all the teams, signing two big name free agents and getting a trade done, among other things. First of all, the Butchers signed former Outlaws running back Baby Yoda, who will form a RBBC with Julio Tirtawidjaja, who was their RB1 last season. So while Farley Hankx last season's RB2 for the butchers, had retired, the running back corps for the butchers only got stronger. In addition to Yoda, the Butchers also signed former Wraiths WR1 Bender B. Rodriguez after the Wraiths surprisingly ket him walk in free agency. Rodriguez will form a formidabke duo with Sean O' Leary. Other addition to the receiving corps isDaymond Brooks, who was acquired from Hahalua with a low price of swapping Hahalua's round 3 pick with Butchers' round 2. While Brooks will be WR3 with the team, he will be a lot of help. Another addition to the group is Luca Scabbia, who was called up from DSFL. Her addition will just strengthen the group by far. While the Butchers didn't saw many transactions from the defensive side of the ball apart from senddown defensive end Arik Eller signing with the Hawks in free agency, this offseason was quite successful for the team.
