It's been 4+ seasons since I stepped down as Copperheads GM as the reigning Ultimus Champion and GM of the Year. In that time I've kept pretty busy. Other GM jobs proved to be just out of reach but I did end up running and building the Awards Committee, joining HO (only to find out that about 70% of my goals were already in the works), and refounding the Casino. And then I retired because I hated playing Safety and didn't have any real connection to Awkward Sexjoke.
So now here we are. Expansion is officially announced and applications are open. I have a new player that is literally a continuation of a fictional version of myself and back in my old favorite position of WR. I was recently drafted in the prestigious 69th position in the DSFL draft which makes me both a #1 pick and a #69 pick in the DSFL. Like I said at the time, that one's going on the Hall of Fame resume. So now I'm going to let you in on what comes next. Some may have heard the rumor that Gucci started (based on accurately seeing me claim it) that my plans are to become an Agent if I do not receive an expansion team. I think I can bring a whole new dynamic to Agenting as a very successful GM who is not only a veteran player but also so notorious for being willing to battle GMs that someone made a Twitter account entirely to complain about it. I understand how hard it can be for players who really want to try stuff out to tell GMs this. Players like this need someone in their corner who can take in a team's feelings and hopes and budgetary limits and simply say "I don't give a shit. My client deserves to be a top 3 paid player at his position so if you don't come up a minimum of another million, this conversation is over and I'm immediately PM'ing your conference rival." Someone who can put the power in the players' hands. Someone who can be the go between so that players don't need to get stuck with that stigma of not being "team friendly" because they're the only one in the locker room who didn't want to bend over backwards for the team. I bring a deep understanding of contracts to the table that not everyone possesses. I can happily lay claim to having screwed up a rival team's budget. With $1. Agenting need s a strong figure to really establish it beyond the fringe existence it currently has. And as someone who's fixed and rebuilt so many league departments that I've lost count at this point, I feel like I'd be a hell of a candidate to do exactly that.
As far as GM'ing, my resume is pretty damn good. I can lay claim to being the most successful expansion GM of all time and the only real argument against that is semantics that try to separate my work and my CoGMs as if we both can't claim it. I have long openly stated that my goal is to bring a team to the NSFC and build another winner there because the conference needs it. Even now, after the most successful two season stint the conference has had, it needs it. The last of the Original 6 got a title finally, and YKW became only the 2nd NSFC team to win more than one Ultimus. Pulling it into a tie for 4th place all time and becoming the 2nd team to win two Ultimus games in Yellowknife. It says something that the past two seasons have increased the conference's Ultimus total by 50%. I know that I can build another organization from the ground up that helps bring the conference up as a better challenger long term to the ASFC. I've been going over a few branding ideas and I'm pretty excited about the possibilities.
I won't be doing any of that. I'm officially stepping aside from expansion at this time and will not be pursuing a role as an Agent either.
Hey, at least I didn't make you wait an hour like LeBron right? Yeah. So here we are. I'm out. I've been contacted by at least a dozen people whom I suspect have strong opinions about their own possible future as expansion GMs and I am standing aside. I've thought about it quite a bit and I've come to the conclusion after a good series of conversations with someone who shall remain a nameless poopyface that it's time for me to just simply sit back and enjoy a normal career. The simple fact is that I've been going nonstop for this league for what will be 3 years on September 1st. It's time to mostly just be as normal of a league citizen as I can manage. Expansion will always be something on the horizon so in six months I or whenever the right time is, I'll get my shot to make my special brand of magic all over again. As for Agenting? It sounds lovely in theory. I might get there one of these days. But not this day.
So what comes next? Well, right now Adam C Spencer is a brand new WR for the London Royals. Right now, I've never actually gotten a player into the Hall of Fame. The closest I came was good old Charlie Law who was good enough to retire in the top 10 for all major receiving categories back in S11 and still sits in the top 15 in two of the three as far as I recall. It's time to make my mark as a player. So what comes next is me working to do that. While having fun and writing a fictional version of myself. I'm going to be a relatively regular recreate who goes through the process of playing for one of 14 teams and actually putting my personal player as a priority. What a concept lol.
I look forward to talking to GMs, writing up regular ass player media about my experiences, and not knowing where I land before anyone else does. And getting the graphics team to use my real render in the next draft. As for the rest well.....we'll get into all that in good time. I have to save some material for the traditional pre-draft "these are my demands and wants and other ridiculous things" type post. For now, though, I'm just looking forward to something I haven't gotten to do in a while. And possibly actually finally being drafted in round 1, maybe. We'll see.
