Hello, everyone! As you know, I like anime. And there are anime players in the league. So, when Fantasy Football came around, I decided to do what no other person would: Build an all anime team. Many laughed at the prospect, many called it a meme team, many even said it was absolute trash. But I didn't listen, for if I would not stand for the minority that is us anime players, than who would?
So, without further a do, how DID Team Anime do?
First up, here's the players that led the charge on my roster along with their draft order:
Round 1: Raphtalia Chan
Round 2: Saba Donut
Round 3: Future Trunks
Round 4: Chika Fujiwara
Round 5: Videl-San
Round 6: Matthew McDairmid
Round 7: Donatello Arrabiata
Round 8: Liberty Defense
Waiver Claim: Dropped Liberty Defense for NOLA Defense
QB - Chika Fujiwara - Baltimore Hawks
THE WOMAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND. There is no other QB I love in this league more than the one ran by my man Starboy/Jackets28. Many think I am merely thirsty for the god tier anime QB, but alas, they are fools for thinking even I would think about thirsting for a god. Chika, the greatest gunslinger to ever gunsling a gun has had a rough season to say the least. With an OLine that has made it very apparent they want her dead, the sim saying "Hey I hate those Baltimore guys, they should lose every game that has them above 50% in testing", and a pesky endurance stat holding her back, she's had to deal with a lot of unfair oddities hindering her play. BUT, NEVER SAY SHE DIDN'T TRY HER BEST! She may only be beating Skywalker in total passing yards at 3,414 on the year, but she ties future hall of famer Jay Cue in passing TDs at 23, and also ties with him in interceptions at 17. Do you see what I'm getting at here? Chika is female Jay. That's right baby, if you were laughing at her before, you're soon about to be crying as the years go by. But alas, we must keep our focus on this season and leave it at "Chika Fujiwara was a serviceable QB that did everything she could to put the Hawks in a winning situation despite being held back by many unfortunate factors."
RB - Raphtalia Chan - Sarasota Sailfish
I love Frost. This is no secret though. I picked Raphtalia up even before I stanned the greatest GM to ever GM in GM history, because not only is she a god tier RB, but Raphtalia is one of my favorite anime characters. But how did Raphtalia do besides be the ignition for my complete simping of Frost? Well, she had 636 rushing yards, 5 rushing TDs, 529 receiving yards, and 5 receiving TDs. This puts her in the middle of the pack for both rushing and receiving, but combined makes her a complete offensive star. And with the season Sarasota was having, she's had plenty of opportunity to really rack up them stats! It's hard to say for certain if Raphtalia was just riding a wave of luck this season or not, but one thing's for sure, she's worth keeping your eye on. Go Frost go!
WR - Saba Donut - Arizona Outlaws
Now I know what you're asking: How's Saba Donut an anime character? Well you see, in Japan, the word for mackerel is saba. That means our man Donut here, is a Mackerel Donut. How he is not on the weeb central known as Sarasota, I have no idea. But, what I do know, is that Saba is a GOAT. Ranking 4th among receivers at 1,316 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns, Saba is a MACHINE. Honestly, how did the Outlaws not lead the division with the team they had? This sim is very mean. BUT NOT AS MEAN AS WR SABA DONUT, WHAT A GUY, WHAT A PLAYER. With the most points out of all of Team Anime, Saba proved to be one of the best anime pickups you could have gotten this season.
WR - Future Trunks - Orange County Otters
Trunks is often referred to as THE BEST anime player in the entire league. And honestly, they're not totally wrong. He's got some competition for that title, but as far as being a true anime WR, he's without a doubt the best one! Weirdly enough though, he's like, one of the only people on this list I've never talked to. But let the stats show that Trunks has pulled in catches for 1,206 yards and 7 TDs, which a pretty damn impressive statline. Dude was about 100 yards away from being Saba 2.0. That's crazy to me though, because generally I don't see people actually mention Trunks as one of the more elite WRs in the league unless I'm talking about anime players. Why aren't people hyping him up more? The world may never truly know, but what we do know, is that he was part of the hard-carry squad that helped Team Anime stay competitive!
TE - Donatello Arrabiata - Philadelphia Liberty
Technically anime because Donatello is from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as we all know, and that makes him anime enough. I don't actually know how to check his stats because he doesn't appear on the index, but that right there kind of tells you the whole story. Donatello was the lowest scoring fantasy player on Team Anime, and not by just a short bit, but by a long shot. No offense to Donatello, I'm glad to have had you on the team, but could you have not maybe told Liberty to throw the ball to you more? With the season they had, I wouldn't be surprised if they had just put you in at QB if you asked. Like seriously, they had their QB at DE, and he didn't even ask for that. It's definitely a move they would have made if you had just asked. So, my suggestion to you? Next season if you guys find yourselves blowing up again: Ask to play QB. Get those points. NEVER STOP FEASTING.
FLEX - WR - Videl-San - Austin Copperheads
Videl's season was really confusing to me. They never really took off despite catching the ball 41 times. Now personally, I feel like if you get the ball that many times, you should have more stats. So what the heck was Austin doing with Videl? Running check-downs with her? Throwing 2 yard slants to her? She's only got 2 TDs, so if she's apparently a good short range receiver, why was she not constantly getting scores in the red zone? Maybe it's because Videl spends a bunch of time playing Baseball on the side, so they didn't want to overwork her? Who knows. But, she did still rack in 431 yards receiving, so that's not too bad. Good work, Videl!
K - Matthew McDairmid - San Jose Sabercats

This one's for you, Matty. My man declared he is anime, so anime he shall be! Matty's probably one of the best dude's in the league, and if he was his own anime, I assure you, it would be a very good anime. Unfortunately, he was a below-average kicker and a top 5 punter. Now, him being below average isn't because he sucked, as he made 20 of his 23 kick attempts and 36 of his 38 extra point attempts. No no, you see, it's because SJS DOESN'T KICK FIELD GOALS. You think with a kicker like Matty, you'd just run it up to the 40 or 30 yard line and do nothing but kick the ball, but not SJS apparently, oh no, they're too good for that. Hell, let him kick a 70, maybe an 80 yarder and I bet he's making that. Why does SJS even pretend they give a damn about offense? You have Matthew McDairmid, you literally don't need anything else. Jamar who? Monty who? MATTHEW. THAT'S WHO. Let him kick the ball, SJS, and you will literally win the playoffs. Look back at the Ultimini of S23, where Murder-Moose was literally the highest scoring player as a kicker. You can do that too, SJS, just believe in McDairmid.
DEF - Liberty - Philadelphia Liberty
Now see, I thought Matty's kicker would be a super hot pick, because it's Matty. But apparently, I was stupid. I wanted to get Sarasota's defense or OCO's defense, as they're the true anime defenses. But just like most Americans who were avid anime watchers between 2000-2010, I'm forced to watch dubs and run Liberty's defense. Now I was fine with this, because Liberty looked really good in week 1. And then week 2 happened, and then week 3 happened, and then the week after that happened. I jumped ship after 6 weeks of running their defense because I realized my blind faith in dubbed anime was misguided. Now this is really harsh towards Liberty, and we can all agree their team is better than 3 wins, but unfortunately the Sim doesn't care about our feelings and what we think we know, which is why this team ended up getting the boot.
ACTUAL DEF - Second Line - New Orleans Second Line
This team is anime because in an episode of The Boondocks, one of the main plot points was that the cast had to house some family from NOLA after they were struck by Hurricane Katrina. The Boondocks is basically just American anime, so this definitely counts and if you think it doesn't you're wrong. I have also been informed as of this posting that NOLA DOES have an anime render, so it's actually true anime. BEAT THAT, LIBERTY! That being said, NOLA was doing really well defensively before I picked them up, but I realized that accumitavely, they actually did worse than Liberty did. Imagine your defense being worse than Liberty in a season where Liberty could only win 3 games. If nothing else, this just proves the point that dubs are shit and American anime is shit too. That being said, I was the only one to do a waiver move in my fantasy league, so I at least get to feel cool about that!
GENERAL SUMMARY OF TEAM ANIME:

How did this happen? How did I lose to Net fucking Gaines? How did Team Anime make dead last?! I was about 435 points behind 1st, and about 333 points behind 3rd, meaning I didn't have a shot in hell at getting any TPE with this team. It shouldn't have gone like this, but the unfortunate truth is that this is reality. Team Anime was either above average or below average in point total all across the board. About the only thing I could have done differently, is have Sarasota or OCO defense, and/or swap out Videl with Mai Fukushu who did really well this season. but even that would not have been enough to save Team Anime from bottom 3 hell. The main stars of Team Anime definitely performed as expected, which was great to see, but the looser picks ended up costing the team a lot. However, the majority of these positions can't be filled by anyone else if you're going for a true anime team. So, as it stands, unless you get one of the anime defenses, this is the farthest you can push a team like this. If anything, this should show you that Chika kinda god tier and Frost is a god among men, but more importantly: We need more anime characters. If not for diversity sake, then at least for the sake of my S25 anime team.
Overall though, I'm disappointed to see how the team did, but I'm feeling optimistic about this team moving forward. It made fantasy actually fun to follow, as I had a team of underdogs to cheer for week after week. That's the one thing I've noticed is true for most of the anime renders and players, is that they are constantly delivering insane games that you leave you sitting on the edge of your seat. Or well, it does if you enjoy dots moving across the screen as much as I do. While I know that there's TPE on the line for ISFL Fantasy Football, I encourage you guys to try out gimmick teams like this if you're looking for a reason to be more invested in the players and match-ups that you wouldn't normally care that much for. Team Anime was a lot of fun to build and monitor, and I look forward to doing this all over again next season!
