Hey Everyone! As a soon to be Free Agent, and expansion/regular draft around the corner I wanted to share my thoughts as a first time Free Agent and how expansion and the experience has been and possibly will be for me.
First thing, although we have the #1 Seed! GO CATS!, my first complaint I have as player is that Free Agency should have begun yesterday at midnight. I understand that free agency occurs directly with seasons end, but with little time before the draft and players trying to hear teams out, I feel like there just isn’t enough time to let everyone get their pitches in and let players explore a bit. If I was a GM I would want to know that I’ve locked down a FA before going into the draft as my needs change. This is where the biggest problem occurs for me is again, negotiation/recruitment time. There isn’t any. So, this is the first adjustment and complaint I would like to see change. Its only a 5/6 day difference but with everyone also having things going on personally this gives time to hear any team or seek out teams that might be interested. I could be wrong but this is just my view, I’ve been around for 7 months now but still feel to new to make these suggestions without knowing exactly why its done the way it is.
Secondly, this goes with being a Free Agent but I think is something I’d like to discuss. As I’ve got some bearings around the league now and know a decent amount of you. I’ve wanted to get more out of the league, well I had no idea where to begin. I paid attention to certain things and people and finally just asked and was able to be a member of my alma mater Minnesota’s War Room. This will come back to free agency/ expansion don’t worry. But, as someone looking to get more out of the league, I had no idea where to start. Maybe I’m missing it but other than being a player and applying for league jobs, there was much more I wasn’t aware of how to obtain, until recently. I think this needs addressed. I don’t see myself wanting to be GM but I want to help my future franchise out in any way possible. So, for me that’s War Room and Sim Testing. Until speaking to TVC, CC and some others I had no idea what went on or how to go about getting in. Luckily, our bond in Minnesota is strong and everyone immediately wanted to help.
So, back to for new users to the league. We should probably maybe see who would be interested in these things, maybe check back in on them after one season, see how interested they would be. I know lots of people who come in and hit the ground running. Maybe that just wasn’t me and this for the people like me, not for you Beefstu.
But onto why expansion plays a role in this. For me as a Free Agent, now everyone knows what I want, but with expansion, this is the perfect opportunity for some fresh faces to tag in with some experienced users to experience these roles. If an expansion team is willing to give these roles to someone like myself, it makes it more attractive to help not only build a franchise on the field but off of it to. Being a core piece to a franchise is more about being a max earner for me. So, to you expansion teams and anyone looking for a max earning CB if you’re thinking of reaching out, you know what I want. ?
To end my rant, obviously, with the current time line No one has been reaching out and I’m sure some of you will, but with such little time it hurts the experience. But overall, as a first time Free Agent, I feel the experience needs some revamping and could become a fun part of everyone’s career, specially if we could make more value on contracts and league money. But that’s for another time and another piece of media cash. A lot of people give the impression they don’t like expansion and I understand that for some GMs and teams who have built great young programs. But in the end expansion isn’t the enemy, it gives players chances to shine, have important roles and overall enhance their experience.
