Tsuyu Asui wakes up in her University of Kentucky dorm a bit sore from walking around doing interviews. She knew the life of draft prospect was hectic bit she didn't expect it to be this hectic! But as she stretched out her back to get it feeling right again, the same thoughts that have been all over her mind started again. The biggest one being: where is she gonna go in the draft?
She knew pulling double duty as a hero and a wide receiver makes her a bit of a celebrity. After graduating UA, she wanted to live in a more quiet town so she moved to the US or more specifically Lexington Kentucky. There she made this bold decision to play college football at the University of Kentucky, making literally everyone think she had lost her mind. She was doubted by everyone even as she would sneak onto the field and practice running routes. One day though, one person believed in her: University of Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops. And he was just the right person to notice. He had been secretly watching her work her ass off and decided to reach out to her one day after a lecture.
"Hey you're Tsuyu Asui right?" He asked her as he comes up go her as she was watching some of the best ways to do routes on YouTube.
"U-ummm yes" she said, suddenly very nervous "l-look if you caught me sneaking onto the football field I am very sorry and-"
"Oh no relax" Stoops says smiling "you're not in trouble. Come into my office" she follows him into his office curiosity and nervously. She looks in a bit of awe at the various awards and pictures on the wall. "Heh impressed huh? Anyways I have been watching you practice and I am actually impressed by your work ethic"
"O-oh thank you" She smiles "I-I have had this dream of playing football! Wide receiver to be more specific!"
"Well here's the deal: a wide receiver we recruited flipped on us for our rival Louisville. Basically for now we can have you be on the practice squad"
"W-wait! A-are you saying...." she stammered, suddenly too shocked to speak
"yes I can give a spot on the team. A small spot, but a spot" she then ribbits happily and hugs him in response "I'll take that as a yes. I'll get you fitted for a uniform, I know someone who can help with that" after that she had been a controversial addition to the team, not playing much her freshman year but managing to make the most of her playing time and catch a couple of short touchdowns. She even gained the respect of her fellow teammates with her endless work ethic and desire to prove herself.
Eventually she got to play more and soon became quite a fan favorite. She was given a minor celebrity role and justified it with her play, quickly becoming a top tier college wide receiver. She had won the Fred Biletnikoff Award 2 times in a row in her sophomore and junior year and was a runner up in her senior year. She managed to become known more then just "the frog girl they let play because they feel sorry for her". She became a legit player.
She then thought back to her last game in college. It was 4th down in the Orange Bowl against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and they are the opposing 45 yard line with 7 seconds left desperately needing a touchdown to win. Tsuyu lined up against a cornerback who has been giving get trouble all day. He had als spoken up against her playing before saying she shouldn't play "because no one knows how to tackle her". That, she thought, was ridiculous because no one had been against tackling her before. She had the bruises to prove it.
She remembers the pain of her first time getting lit up at practice. She stayed down for a bit then got up, grabbing her back.
"Does it hurt?" Her linebacker teammate asked her
"Y-yes. A lot." She groaned
"Well get used to it. After all you did ask for this. You take the good with the bad. Don't be afraid to feel pain in this game. They eat weakness for breakfast" She quickly realized he was right. If she didn't get back up after the pain, people would take pity on her. That isn't what she wanted. She wanted to be taken seriously. She needed to be taken seriously. She took his advice to heart and became way more tough them before, taking her lickings and keeping on ticking.
As she stared into the eyes of the cornerback, she noticed they are going to be using man coverage and knew a route to take to get past him. As the ball was hiked, she managed to get open and caught the ball, running like her life depended on it. She manged to get into the endzone with no time left and threw her arms up in exhausted glory. She was mobbed by her teammates and was carried around on the shoulders of two of her teammates. At the post game interview she said that this is one of the happiest moments of her career and life.
As she thought back to that day, she looks over the teams who could select her in the DSFL draft. Would she be going to London, or to Tijuana, or to somewhere in the states? She then shrugged. It didn’t matter in the end as long as she got to play. She then got a text from a friend of hers asking if she wanted to go to the mall and discuss what's going to happen after Tsuyu is forced to move after getting drafted. Tsuyu agreed and headed out, ready for wherever this crazy journey takes her. And to think, her "crazy" desire had led to all of this.
