For a new player that joins the DSFL there is a lot that needs to be thought about. The DSFL is the first step that a player takes towards playing in the ISFL and that means for a lot of young players they may need to move a long way from home in order to set up in a new location that could be very different to what they are used to so far. For tight end James Wilkinson this could be something that happens as he as spent all of his life so far within the Carolinas but the geography of the teams in the DSFL might mean that he is made to change this and move to somewhere that he has not had the chance to experience before. For James this is something that he is prepared to do and he looks forward to the new chance that it will give him to make an identity for himself but with there being so many different places that he could find himself playing in, he could find himself in very different situations depending on which team it is that he finds himself playing for. We should be able to get the chance to learn a lot about all of the potential destinations before the draft starts, but in this article we’re going to take a look at the locations of the teams and how well James might fit in there if the team decides to add him to their roster for next season.
1. Portland Pythons
Portland is a great city! James has never had the chance to travel there unfortunately but he has heard nothing but good things. Oregon is a state that has a big football presence which is something that James definitely finds exciting and knows that if he were to play here then the fan support that the team would have would be very special. Portland is a long way from home for James being on the other side of the country which would be a big change for him but he would be ready for the challenge that it would bring and would look forward to making his name in a new city. It would be a lot of fun to move to the northwest so I think that this is a potential destination that James would be very excited to play in if the opportunity was given to him. We will see whether this one is something that comes to pass but it is definitely an exciting potential destination for him!
2. Kansas City Coyotes
Every person who knows football knows that Kansas City is a place where they love the sport! The Chiefs have a lot of support and James would imagine that the Coyotes have the same amount of support in what they do. Kansas City is a little closer to home than James than Portland would be and so it would mean less travelling for him and more opportunities to see his friends and family during the football season which would be something that could help him with his comfort during the season. It would be amazing for a young player like James to be a part of a team in a city that loves football as much as Kansas City does so I think that this would be a great fit for him and a destination that he would be really excited to have the chance to go to! This is a place that James would really like to see himself in when the time comes!
3. London Royals
The first team on the list that is not even in the same country as James, travelling north of the border to Canada to play for the London Royals would be an interesting story for James. London is a long way from home for James and it would definitely be very different to what he’s used to but it would be good for his development to go to a place that offers new challenges and the opportunity to experience playing in a very different setting. London is an interesting place for the team to be because it’s not the biggest place in Canada but it would still be an interesting place for James to play and call home. Playing for the London Royals would mean that James needs to make a big move but it would be something that he would be prepared to do in order to keep moving his career forward and the chance to really go to a different place would be something that he would look forward to!
4. Minnesota Grey Ducks
Minnesota is a place that is known as loving its sports and so it would definitely be a place that James would be very excited to get the chance to play in! Minnesota already supports one major football team in the Vikings which would probably mean that the Grey Ducks benefit from a strong support from the city because the sport is so established there. Being able to play for the Grey Ducks would be exciting for the young player, and another opportunity that he would do whatever he could to make the most of. The cold weather in Minnesota would take some getting used to for the young player who has never had to experience anything like they have in Minnesota so far but being cold would be a small price to pay for getting the chance to play in a place as special as Minnesota!
5. Norfolk Seawolves
This is a destination that is actually not too far away from where James has lived so far. Norfolk is around a 7 hour drive from where James grew up and so it would be nice to play here and not be too far away from home and the comfort that would bring. It would be a help with his playing morale if he was able to have friends and family in attendance for his games, so the fact that the Seawolves would be able to make this possible would be something that would be very nice for James to be able to do. He unfortunately does not know anything about the city of Norfolk. There isn’t another team in the city that I know of but maybe that just means that the Seawolves have a bigger group of fans that they don’t need to share with other teams in the league! Norfolk is not the first place that I would have thought of when I look at potential football franchise locations but I think it is a good idea and I think that James could make a great career for himself starting out in Norfolk!
6. Myrtle Beach Buccaneers
This would be the team in the DSFL that would really be the hometown team for James. Myrtle Beach is in South Carolina which is the same state that he played college football for Clemson in. Getting the opportunity to be able to play football so close to home would be a dream come true for James and that means that Myrtle Beach is a great potential destination for him to get the chance to grow and develop in. The one thing that holds him back is the fact that playing so close to home would mean he wouldn’t get the the chance to spread his wings and experience a new place. For someone who has always lived in the same part of the country it might be a good idea for him to try and experience somewhere at least slightly different to what he’s known so far. That is something to think about but at the same time, James would love to have the chance to carry on playing football in South Carolina if he had the chance.
7. Tijuana Luchadores
All of the teams that we have talked about so far have a lot of advantages to them but Tijuana is by far the most exotic destination in the DSFL! The chance to play football in Mexico would be a very fun opportunity for James. He’s not sure what the support for the game is like in the country but he’s sure that it must be strong in order for the DSFL to be able to have a team in the city of Tijuana. It would certainly be an exciting opportunity for him to be able to go an play in somewhere so different to what he has known so far, and it would give him the chance to learn about a culture and place totally different to the one that he knows already! It might be tough for a young player like James to adapt to the challenges that would come with this kind of change but he thinks it is important to face tough challenges in order to improve and grow so perhaps this could be somewhere that would challenge him a lot as a person and allow him to really change as a person and develop a lot.
8. Dallas Birddogs
The last destination in the DSFL is maybe the one that is the most famous football city of all. The city of Dallas is home to the Cowboys who are a very famous organisation and are known as having a lot of fans, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the Birddogs were also a team that had a lot of support in the area too. Thinking about things other than football, Dallas sounds like a very interesting and fun city for a young player like James to go to and have the chance to live in, so I think that Dallas is definitely somewhere that he would think about as an exciting destination to go to! It’s not too far a distance from where he is based currently either which means it would not be too hard for him to travel back and forth to go home, which is definitely a positive when it comes to evaluating a destination! I think James would love the idea of being able to play in Dallas, and it would be the kind of destination that he could be very excited about going to.
It seems that all eight of the teams that make up the DSFL league are located in a city that would have a lot that it could offer a young player such as James, and that the chance to play in any of these cities would be something that could be very exciting for him to get to do! James has the type of personality that whatever team it is that decides to add him to their roster when the time comes, he will give them his all and do whatever it is that he can to improve and make himself a better player. In the time before then, he is going to do everything that he can to learn about these teams and find out what it is he needs to do to make an impression and earn himself a chance at making their team. The opportunity to be a part of any of these great and historic franchises is very exciting for James, and he’s sure that the chance to offer his services to them is something that he would not waste and that he would do everything he could to make the most of. James looks forward to having the opportunity to speak to people from these teams when the chance arrives, and hopes that he is able to get more of an understanding about what makes them unique and interesting beyond the city that they play in! It looks like it’ll be a fun time ahead for James and he can’t wait to get started!

I assume that the DSFL follows a similar structure to the SMJHL, the junior league in the only other sim league I’ve taken part in prior to this one where a draft takes place each season.
